I booked the property to celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary and I was contemplating of leaving our daughter (just 8 month old) in Colombo as it was a 4 hour journey one way for just a 1 night stay. My wife scratched the idea of leaving our infant daughter and we decided to role the dice and take her with us, and we also wanted to het to get used to the traveling. The property, and the amenities were what was expected of a place at this price range. What made this stay an amazing experience was its people. From the front office staff who accommodated all my request relating traveling with an infant, to the very kind restaurant staff who treated Maya as if she’s their kid, and not to mention the chef who accommodated all the detailed instructions of my wife with regards to Maya’s meal. We also skipped the safari just to be at the bar and enjoy the view and relax at the property. All in all it was a short but wonderful stay.

We had booked Uga Chena huts as part of our trip around Sri Lanka in June and honestly loved every second of being there. Possibly my only criticism is the driveway to the hotel. The sandy offroad path really isn't drivable by most normal vehicles and the hotel gave no warning that we might need a different type of car to access the property. Upon arrival, we were greeted by staff waiting to take us to reception and transport our luggage. Check-in was super efficient and speedy and after a quick tour of the property we were shown to our room where our bags were already waiting. Wow. The rooms are amazing. Possibly even better than the pictures as the room is huge and everything in it feels brand new. The centre point of the room is the large bed with a variety of pillows. There is a good sized wardrobe with a safe and desk area with plenty of plug points. Behind the bed is the bathroom with closed off toilet, shower and a rolltop bathtub. The lounge are of the room has a love seat and tv/speaker system and there is also a dining table by the coffee machine and well stocked minibar (which is all included in your package). Air con works well in the room and there is a fan above the bed. Each room also includes its own decent sized plunge pool and decking and we had an amazing view to the beach and sea. Internet is free and worked well throughout the whole resort. The hotel has a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, a stunning bar with an extensive cocktail list and a sundowners bar on the beach which is open each evening. All food and drink is included in your package and the quality of the food and service is very good... there just isnt enough time to enjoy everything! Game drives are included each day to be arranged around the opening hours of the National Park. Uga Chena is conveniently situated about 20 mins from the park entrance which allows you to maximise your time in the park without spending hours in the car each day. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable (on so many subjects) so it was great chatting and learning more about the area in between spotting animals. We managed to see a number of elephants during our 2 day visit as well as an elusive leopard. other useful info... - Uga Chena does sometimes get animals visiting so you are warned not to wander too far from your room without company/letting someone know. Especially at night. - The hotel doesn't offer room service for this reason so all meals/drinks (except for the minibar) need to be taken in the restaurant/bar areas - We were in room #1 which was very close to reception/the restaurant/bar however some of the rooms are quite far away. - Sri Lanka doesn't have a huge amount of animals to see on safari... so don't expect a 'Kruger like' experience - you may go for a 2 hour drive and see only peacocks and buffalo. There are also a lot of private hire vehicles in the park and when animals are spotted you will see a large number of vehicles often crowding the animals. The Uga Chena guides are very respectful of the animals space but that doesn't mean everyone else is! A truly amazing hotel even without the added bonus of the safari drives - we would definitely return even if just to enjoy the hotel more!! Beautiful condition and incredible staff with amazing attention to details and they really cannot do enough to help.

My best friend and I traveled to Sri Lanka for our 55th birthdays. The property LOOKED cool online, but you never know. It was WAY more than what we had expected. The setting along the coast and next to Yala National Park was impressive. We could hear the ocean waves crashing in from our hut and watch the animals cruise by from our deck (which had a plunge pool with jets!). The vibe is incredible because of the people who work there. Everyone was very accomodating and very upbeat. They have a crazy knack of anticipating your every need. We did several safari's while there and saw LOTS of animals (two leopard spottings). We chose Sri Lanka for the safaris and animals and Chena Huts provided an incredible experience. Our guide, Gayan, was very well educated and spoken about not only the animals but also the plants, geography and culture. During the safari drives, Chena Huts packed us coolers with pastries, juices, water. What an experience! And our "hut"- beautiful and very comfortable!

The Uga Chena Huts truly amazing at so many levels. The staff welcomed us with the warmest of smiles & the property design truly spectacular the safari-style huts built within the lush jungle that borders the rough sea, Chena Huts brings you to that one with nature feel. If this is what you are seeking then look no further than a perfect stay to be had at Chena Huts.

I had the pleasure of staying at Uga Cheng Huts during my travels to Sri Lanka in September this year. I have travelled extensively in many countries, including Sri Lanka staying at Jetwing Colombo, Shangri La Hambanthota, and Jaic Hilton. I am a nature lover and have contributed to a few small milestones concerning birds in Sri Lanka. When I first heard about Cheng Huts in Sri Lanka, I was very keen to stay for a few days and immerse in nature. It did not take a long time to notice that Cheng Hut was located in a very peaceful environment, perfectly located between the ocean and Yala National Park. Notably, the construction of the residences was performed with minimal disruption to the surrounding wildlife. The friendly staff explained unique measures utilized to reduce waste, such as treating wastewater and recycling it to tend to the gardens. The staff was wonderful. Every one of them from the front office manager, front office staff, restaurant staff, minor staff, and ranger worked extremely hard to keep the visitors comfortable and happy. They worked very hard to create an authentic and immersive nature experience. In particular, the ranger, Mr. Vibushna during our safari dealt with out food and was very accommodating. He took the time to share his vast knowledge of the surroundings and it was very clear he had a thorough knowledge of the wildlife in the national park. Ms. Lihil would call us the day before to inquire about our plan and what the staff could do to ensure we had the most memorable stay in Uga. The front office staff were very welcoming and friendly. At the beginning of our stay, they served drinks and performed the flag ceremony and took the time to welcome us to the beautiful surroundings. The restaurant and bar staff were incredible. I can honestly say that I cannot think of a single deficiency in their service. The rooms were above standard and were kept very clean and tidy. The stay provides a wonderful sunset experience where the staff organise outside tables and prepare a sand floor with water most days to ensure a lovely evening dining experience. Each day the main senior chest would come and talk to every guest at the dinner table to ensure the food was to their liking and that the staff had accommodated any dietary requirements. As a nature lover, the safari experience was perfect. On both days the ranger and the driver did their best to show us the maximum amount of animals, including trying to locate rare animals such as bears and leopards. The safari was well-organized and well-planned. I have done numerous safaris in Yale National Park and I am aware that sometimes we can be very lucky and see multiple rare animals and some days the safari trip may not encounter any large mammals and only birds and small animals. On the days were weren’t able to encounter large animals, the ranger took the time to show us interesting trees, flowers, birds, and small mammals, which made the trip equally worthwhile. We did 2 x similar identical trips but in different locations. He had a very good knowledge of elephants and the other endemic animals of Sri Lanka. As someone who has spent some time reading about Sri Lankan wildlife, it was a great opportunity to increase my own knowledge with someone who had a vast amount of scientific and local knowledge about the wildlife. I have to say this is one of the best places to visit and the hard-working staff ensures a memorable stay. A big thanks to the wonderful staff at Uga Cheng Huts! An absolute must-stay if you visit Sri Lanka!!

Our stay at Uga at the end of August 2023, was phenomenal. We had the best reception, service and fine dining. Erosh, Naveen, Zara were superlative. After a long drive it was a refreshing welcome. The huts are well appointed and designed in an original way. We loved every minute of our sty. Ours had a plunge pool and a sit out, perfect after a game drive. The drives and ranger Janith certainly delivered and we saw all the animals that makes Yala such a treat to visit. Each meal at the restaurant was a delight. Big shout out to Kusal the F&B manager and to Ruwan, Gayan, Chinthika Chamara, Nimatha. They prepared our meals with meticulous attention. The primary downside of the property is however the check out.. We didn't want to leave! Hope to be back soon.

The best resort I have ever experienced so far. The hospitality was incredible and all staff beginning from the frontline reception were super friendly and welcoming. The way the restaurant arranged and catered us through every meal was simply outstanding. The chef too was very nice to chat with us during our meals and the food was amazing and so delicious. The Huts bar was an awesome experience and the bartenders served us well. The sea view luxurious cabin with a plunge pool was mind blowing and a great choice. The all inclusive package avails a Safari game drive to Yala National Park as well. It is the best luxurious eco friendly hotel you can find in Yala Sri Lanka. Highly recommend this hotel and looking forward to experience this luxurious resort again.

Large room, very luxurious. Hard to believe the size and level of detail in the room. Being slightly phobic to insects and creatures I was very pleased to find nothing uncanny in the room at all. Food was incredible. Catered very well for dietary needs. One of us was coeliac and I didn’t have to check twice about something being safe for me. They have gluten free bread and a separate area. Did not fall sick once
