Cottage was clean, well appointed and comfortable. Staff were welcoming and accommodating. Dogs are made very welcome, no problem having them with you at dinner in the bar area. Understandable not permitted in the restaurant however plenty of tables in the bar mean this wasn't an issue

This place should decide whether they want to be an inn or a restaurant because clearly they aren't doing both! We arrived at around 6 pm, which should not have been a surprise because we had sent them more than one email about that fact. No one was in the "inn" part (which had that lovely wet dog smell one... As big fans of Tripadvisor, we find the site very useful both personally and professionally. We have learned lots from our guests feedback and made many changes as a result. Unfortunately, there will always be some people who abuse it and are far from honest in their reviews. So much of what you have written has been at best exaggerated... More

The pub offered comfortable and affordable accommodation, but the real gem is the food. Great menu focusing on local ingredients and cooked well and well priced. Staff are friendly and welcoming. After a long day it was just what the doctor ordered.

We visited 'The House' with a group of friends and had a lovely evening. The food and service was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their meals and it was good value for money. We will certainly have this on our list of places to call again when in the area.

This is normally one of my favourite places to eat, but I went with a largish group. We had prebooked everything that we ate, however - still we had a long long wait; We were really squashed in so that the waitress could not reach all people without our moving our seats about every time (not easy with table legs... We only stayed over night but the meal, service and accommodation made us wish it was longer. We were delayed in arriving but having phoned ahead the dining room was kept open for us. Thank you. The food was fantastic. Huge crabs claws, with just sufficient chilli to know about it but not over powering. The fresh fish of the... More

We had plans to visit South West Scotland and needed a friendly base to stay. Contact was made with this place and booking was easy. Located about 10 miles north from the town of Newton Stewart and 20 or so from Prestwick it was central for our needs. Just a quaint but modern Scottish roadside Inn in delightful and wildlife... We visited House o'Hill for a drink and a meal at the end of May 2016. They were welcoming, and feted some really good real ale. The menu wasn't too extensive ( I find this a positive, as things are more likely to be made with care and be fresh), and the food was really good. Very much enjoyed the... More
