If you like charming, nature loving hosts with a wealth of knowledge, very clean and comfortable accommodation and delicious meals (home grown vegetables, fruits and preserves), look no further. Hilton and Melva are the perfect hosts. The area has wonderful walks, amazing scenery and great bird life. So much to see, do and learn and so little time.. Thanks for... More

We stayed at Hilton and Melva's place on Christmas Day as we were diving at Poor Knights the day after. We arrived tired and hungry and after showing us our room, letting us get a nap and cleaned up we were invited to hang out upstairs. We had such a great visit learning about the local culture and "swapping lies"... More

Melva and Hilton were fantastic hosts - the perfect start to our holiday in NZ. Sadly we only stayed 2 nights but could have spent a week here. There is loads to do in the area. Hilton kindly took us out to see the gloworms at Abbey Caves after a day's Scuba Diving at Dike Tutukaka (5 minute drive). The... More

I stayed with them as a te araroa section walker. They are lovely people who help maintain the local trail. They were really helpful with pick up and drop off and really care about their guests. The meal was lovely.

From the monarch butterflies hatching from pupae on a stem of milkweed in the lounge to Melva's fine dinner to Hilton's tales, we greatly enjoyed our stay. We chose Riverbank on the basis of the good reviews, the budget price and because we liked the idea of a home cooked meal and finding out more about the area. The room... More

Excellent stay with wonderful hosts. Try the bush walk too. Thank you for a lovely and interesting stay. We had an evening meal which was really good and breakfast was tasty too. If there is any Ginger Beer going, try it!

Immediately on arrival we were made to feel welcome. A lovely room with mosquito screens ( the little critters love me) all very comfortable with cookies and nice little touches. Beautiful area with great hosts who obviously enjoy your company over dinner and a glass of wine on the balcony. Fruit and veg from the garden, what more could one... More

For lovers of nature this place is superb. Our hosts Melva and Hilton were marvelous hosts and were great company. They cooked us evening meal with wine which was exceptionally good value. The accommodation was excellent and spotlessly clean. There are some good walks in the extensive grounds and lots of wildlife to see.

My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay with Hilton & Melva. Their hospitality made our stay so enjoyable and there knowledge of the Tutukaka coast was valuable to us (as time poor travellers') Their home is very clean and well appointed, I only wish we could have stayed longer and got to see around their garden and surrounding... Melva and Hilton were super friendly, welcoming, and very helpful. It was a comfortable room. We had a nice breakfast before heading out early. We only spent one night there but wish it could have been longer.
