We went to Babylonstoren for lunch then took a therapeutic walk through their beautiful gardens. Out of curiosity we wanted to have a look at the accommodation options and spontaneously made the decision to stay for a night which then turned into two! Rooms, bathroom, food and service were undoubtedly 5 star - and surrounded by nature this was a...

Truly amazing gardens to walk through in the early morning before the masses of people arrive. The restaurants are fantastic, serving only the freshest ingredients straight from the land. Including their own honey from their beehives! There is an entry fee to the wine farm R20 I think it is, just keep that in mind.

We didn't stay in the hotel - we just spent the day in the domaine...and it is wonderful space to spend the day! The garden is magical - or the gardenS. A lot of different plants/styles/atmospheres. Plan enough time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere. Lunch in the outdoor restaurant was simple & delicious. Wine tasting in the very design...

Leave enough time to wander through the amazingly well laid out gardens, with so many plants and animals to see. All very well laid out with little descriptions. We tried the greenhouse restaurant and the food was excellent. It was warm enough to sit outside under the trees, with very good service and food.

Four of us stayed at Babylonstoren for 2 nights, wished it were seven. Ridiculously large rooms, so comfortable and quiet! Each cluster of rooms had its own spa, pool and bar area. Everything is white Cape-styled architecture. This "farm" produces its own wine, which is very good and reasonably priced, has its own gardens and fruit trees and animals. The...

It's difficult to put a description to this place, it is so unique that it has to be experienced. This is a farm that up until 10 years ago produced only fruits, however, new owners came along and have developed it into a hotel, restaurant, winery and a farm that produced just about anything you can imagine. The produce is...

There are not enough descriptors for our experience at Babylonstoren. The accommodation, the food, the views and scenery, the activities, the amenities, the decor and the staff are all extraordinary. An amazing 2 nights to finish off our stay in South Africa. We will definitely be back.

Babylonstoren is a working wine farm with boutique accommodation, as well as a garden that was modeled on the original Company Garden in Cape Town. Each section has fruit, vegetables or plants for viewing or eating. The fruit is organically grown and is seasonal, so you can enjoy fresh stone fruit of trees at certain times of the year, fresh...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Just 60 kms from Cape Town in the Groot Drakenstein Valley, Babylonstoren - named after the small hill on the farm named by early Dutch settlers in honor of the Bible's Hanging Gardens of Babylon - dates to 1692. The 8-acre formal French kitchen garden at Babylonstoren, inspired by Cape Town's famous 17th-century Company Gardens of the Dutch East India Company, is the central focus of the farm. Today, cultivation of the freshest fruit, herbs and vegetables is paramount and the menu at the farm's restaurant, Babel, is driven by the seasons and what nature dictates. With over 300 fruits, vegetables and herbs to choose from, there is always be something fresh and surprising. Overlooking the vineyards and garden with the historic farm buildings forming a backdrop, Babylonstoren's 13 guest cottages echo Cape Dutch farm buildings. This style was developed in the Cape Colony in the 17th and 18th centuries: the outer walls are whitewashed and decorated with ornate gables and the interiors are pleasantly cool in summer (due to thick walls) and are heated by open hearths in winter. In these cottages we see 18th century-style exteriors boldly yet seamlessly married to the 21st century. Hotel guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veggies from the garden, explore the farm on bicycle, join our daily garden tour, enjoy our signature hammam treatment in the garden spa, or simply unwind with a glass of wine in the hotel's green room. The abundant harvest table breakfast is served from 8h00 - 10h00 in the garden's beautiful greenhouse. Guests can also enjoy dinner on the farm, either in Babel restaurant four nights a week, or in the farm bakery (Sun, Mo & Wed). ... more   less
