Having recently moved to the area we decided to walk to The Swan across The Ridgeway with a couple of friends who were visiting. It was a cold and very blustery day but the welcome and atmosphere at The Swan was anything but - Richard and the team made us feel at very much at home. An excellent selection on... More

I was down on business and opted to eat at the Swan during the evenings. The beef casserole is to die for. I travel across the country quite a bit and all the fancy grub does not beat beef casserole in a giant Yorkshire pudding but only at The Swan!

My wife and I stayed here on a Friday night so we could attend a reunion in near-by Didcot the following day. We arrived late afternoon and the very friendly barman took us to our room immediately. The place is old and the room #4 is simply but comfortably furnished in an old-fashioned way - the bed is one of... More

We were travelling from Wolverhampton to Portsmouth along the A34 when I began to tire so pulled off the road into another road sign posted Compton. However, at the first island we came to The Swan hotel was facing us.. It had a large carpark and number of outside tables. The main bar was warm and inviting with a long... More

Chose this as a half way place to meet a friend for lunch. An interesting specials board, fair prices, well cooked food. Friendly staff and pleasant pub ambiance, with defined dining area. Will probably use again.

This is not really a review; we didn't stay here, or eat here or drink here. However, we stopped for food and, whilst they were not serving anything that we wanted to eat, the chef freely recommended the pub over the road. So...top marks for cheerful, friendly, helpful service. Recommended!

Stayed one night on a journey from Cornwall to Yorkshire. Richard could not have been mote helpful, as were all the staff. The food on the evening was great , best steak I've had in a pub, my fiance had lamb shank that was also tasty. Good breakfast too... my only comment would be that our room, although comfortable, could... More
