As you can tell when reading the reviews, there are really two different hotels within this one hotel. One hotel is sort of a tired, Holiday Inn sort of property. The other is a train-themed property where people sleep in old Pullman rail cars. The people in the rail cars seemed to love the experience based on their reviews. I stayed in a "regular" room. It was...fine. There were stains in the sink and shower, the amenities are minimal, but everything worked and my stay was fine, with one caveat. The hotel is really part of Union train station. As a result, it's layout is extremely odd. For example, our room was on the first floor and accessible only by walking a certain path - any other path would dead-end before reaching it. The supports of the second floor are large steel girders. That's because the train rails are located on what would be the second level of the hotel. This means that when trains roll into Union station, the whole place shakes like an earthquake. Only the heaviest sleeper would manage to remain asleep. The good news is that Union station Indianapolis gets little activity. The Amtrak runs to and from Chicago through Indianapolis every other day. Unfortunately, the DC bound train from Chicago arrives at Indianapolis around 1:30am, so you are likely going to wake up. The second floor may be less noisy - I don't know. On the positive side, the location is great - obviously close to the train station and connected via walkway to the Indiana convention center and easily walkable to downtown. We ate at the breakfast buffet each morning which was very good.…
This was an awesome trip! Great location! Awesome hotel! We stayed in a train car. That was pretty unique but it is close quarters! Valet was super convenient! Worked with kayler who showed great customer service! Cant wait to go back!
I thought my room was excellent and the meeting facilities were very good. The interior of the hotel was pretty cool with the train rooms and existing train station structure. The service was very good and the bar wasn't too bad either. Worth the money.
Rooms are not up to par. Towel rack in bathroom is barely hanging on. Water stains on bathroom ceiling. Bath tub has stain in it. Vent covering are barely hanging on. Need looks ok. It’s a cool hotel but their rooms need upgrades. My room door was open prior to me entering
I was worried when I booked the room because it is an active train station as well. I read a previous review which made it sound like it would be a long night. I can say the trains did not keep me up. I used the PanAm parking garage which joined the hotel and is a lot cheaper than the hotel's valet. You are walking distance to many restaurants and a mall. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet for a fee.
I can’t say enough good things about Calvin! He greeted me immediately with a smile and welcoming words. Every time I saw him, even when not retrieving my car, he called me by name. What incredible service by such a caring person
Attended a convention on site - what a great location! Stayed in a train car on the north side of the hotel - unbelievably quiet. Excellent room, king suite, all in a 1920 Pullman. Convention was located in adjacent Union Station. Built in 1888, refurbished in 1986, tremendous architecture - a real step back in time. Hotel did an outstanding job of service and food was amazing. I've been to over 100 conventions - this was by far the best setting and the best service. Would certainly come back again!
I booked a 3-night stay in this hotel for a business trip in June 2015. I was 5 months pregnant and had to sign a waiver at the front desk during check in. The waiver states I understood there was train noise and I would not be allowed to cancel my reservation due to train noise. So on the first night, I was sleeping when the first train ran through the building at 2:33am. The room and bed shook so violently I was almost catapulted out of bed. If you’ve ever been in a war zone with bombs falling around you, you’ll know what I mean. I was so traumatized afterwards, I was unable to sleep. The next morning, I checked out and moved into.a neighboring hotel which was peaceful. The whole time I couldn’t help thinking about my baby and what would have happened if the experience had somehow affected him. (The irony is my now-6 year old son is obsessed with trains, but not from this hotel experience!)…
The entire staff was very friendly and seemed to remember that you were staying there once they met you. Ate at both restaurants in the hotel and the food was delicious and reasonably priced for the area. The wife and I stayed in one of the train car suites and absolutely loved it. I wanted to give a special shout out to the valet staff especially Calvin for taking such great care of my truck. Had to use valet because it was to tall for the parking garage next door and glad I did.
We’ve been coming here for many years and the service and accommodations are simply wonderful! Calvin at the valet was fantastic and everyone ensured we had a wonderful stay yet again! Always highly recommend this place and all that they offer!
