#2 of 19 Specialty lodging in Indianapolis
If you like to really feel a town, meet the people, and experience the food and lifestyle of the locals, then Indy Hostel is the place to stay! We have the friendly atmosphere of a hostel with the style of a bed and breakfast inn. We are near downtown but nestled in a quiet Broad Ripple neighborhood near local restaurants, shops, and entertainment venues. Indy Hostel is in the 'Heart' of Indianapolis.

Just needed a place to crash overnight. Stayed in the main bunk room which was very comfortable. Place is very clean! Well maintained!! Backyard has a nice fire pit and seating for guests. The common rooms inside are spacious and inviting. If you don't mind hanging out with strangers, you can't get much better than this!

As I think all can see from my reviews I have experienced a wide range of hotel types. From Waldorf Astorias to Hampton Inns. I wanted to see what a hostel experience would be like so took an opportunity to try Indy Hostel in Indianapolis. I was pleasantly surprised by a clean safe very friendly stay. The place is as advertised, the accommodations are neat and clean. The managers are warm and engaging. There is a nice sense of community with the other guests. The managers had a cool music night with showcasing the national/local music scene with some performances by up and coming musical artists. There are some nice bars and food places walkable and the location in general is perfect as a base to enjoy all Indinapolis has to offer. You cannot beat the price. Since I was on my own I tried the basic co-ed dorm and had no trouble sleeping on a very comfortable bed. There were several other people using the large six bunk room but all were very respectful of everyone else and so no issues with disturbed sleep. The hostel experience may not be for everyone but if you are on a budget and are looking for a safe, clean and fun place to crash for a few nights Indy Hostel can not be beat!

I wanted a room for my son close to downtown, for not a lot of dollars. They were so nice and took great care of him. He gives Indy Hostel high praise for homey atmosphere and for location! Well worth it.

A nice and clean hostel feel. Downstairs dorm next to kitchen and social room. Past 12am and people in social room not self aware they are being loud. ( worker included) 12 am is late even for a hostel on a tues. they are moving furniture around at 1230 am:/. Second story walking makes really loud noice. I'm a frequent European hostel stayer. Pros: Clean kitchen

I was initially planning on booking a two night stay at this hostel during my easer weekend getaway to Indianapolis after a superb first-time experience at a Hosteling International Chicago. However, since my last weekend getaway to Chicago was very costly (due to parking, 3 nights at the hostel and a Hamilton ticket), I opted to sleep in my car for my duration here. My first night in my car was horrible as it was freezing & even with extra layers, I felt like I was gonna get hypothermia. So, I relented and booked my second night in Indianapolis at Indy Hostel the next morning after eating at Milktooth. On TripAdvisor, I was informed that there was a 10% discount on room rates, and that I had to “mention the special offer at the time of reservation and present unexpired coupon at check-in.” So I opted to reserve in person rather than online, so that I could mention and present the coupon. The hostel is located around houses (it’s essentially a house itself). It is painted a bright red, I’m guessing to make it easier for travelers to pick it out. I came at around 9:45am and rang the doorbell. No one answered so I hung out on the porch for a bit until I saw someone inside and asked if he could open the door for me. The main floor is large and each room is painted a different color. There were couches, board games and a TV. This is what I was expecting a hostel to look like when I had my first hostel experience in Chicago (HI Chicago is more like a hotel than a hostel to be honest). Although I wasn’t allowed to check in until 2pm, I was able to make the reservation for $28. Locker was an extra $5 so I opted to keep my stuff in my car. I asked for a bed in the co-ed room which was the cheapest option and located downstairs. I was told that I could choose any bed that was made when I got back from the day. Bed sheets and blanket are provided, both of which are on the bed. I’m not sure if towel is provided as I didn’t have to use one and wasn’t given one at reservation. I was in a coed room, I didn’t get a key, just a passcode to access the hostel. As for parking you are only allowed to park on one side of the road (I’ve attached a photo about it). Since I decided to sleep late, it was a pain navigating in the dark while others were sleeping. As all the Lower bunk beds were taken, I had to take a top bunk which was painful too. I wasn’t sure which beds were taken as there a few signs hanging near empty beds so I wasn’t sure if those were taken or not. I opted to take a bed that didn’t have a sign. The room was warm, which was nice. There were 4 full bathroom in the house. Overall, it was a decent stay. Breakfast is also provided too. I’ve learned to take your bed earlier if you want a lower bunk bed.
