Our family was out for a quick hike at Fairfax SRA and decided to check out the hotel since we had never been out to see it. We decided to have a quick bite to eat after checking out the grounds. Our waitress Carri was welcoming, prompt, and even went the extra mile to wipe down the high chair we needed with disinfectant, which made us feel very comfortable with the service. For our dessert she even went and talked to the chef to ensure we got the best dessert between our options. She definitely gave us a great time, and we'll be back again.

3.5/5 stars. We stayed in Room 329, a Lakeside King, which had a spectacular view and was very clean however our bed was broken. Springs were popping up randomly, even if no one was near the bed. Did not bring it to the attention of staff at that time. Did leave it on comment card and emailed them when we returned, no response. We decided to make do since it was only 2 nights. Our friends beds in other rooms were firm but good condition, they slept great. The view is the highlight of the place. Pool area was super nice but no hot tub and towels are kept in your room. Only seating in the area is loungers and are difficult to get in and out of with mobility issues. We had 3 meals on-site and the food was terrible, bartenders were inexperienced and couldn't get a decent mixed drink. Everyone we encountered all weekend was super nice and personable. The location is perfect for R&R. I highly recommend staying lakeside (garden rooms have a window view of the parking lot). Pro's: Service, location, views, pool Cons: Dining, beds. We will stay again because it's not a far drive for us and we did enjoy ourselves. Off-season is wonderful if you don't like crowds. We had the pool all to ourselves.

We visit Fourwinds about once or twice a year during the off season for an overnight trip. Fourwinds is nice property with an onsite restaurant (Windjammers) but it is only open during Peak Season. The pool has a tropical vide about it and is enclosed during off season and the wide open during the summer months. The pool area could use some music or tropical sounds piped in just to drown out the silence. We always get a lakeside room with a patio (with table and chairs) and love the ease of walking down to the lake and beach and observing nature.
This trip, last weekend (Sat, April 2), we were helped by staff members Rachel and Judi they were absolutely amazing!
During the summer, we camp across the lake at Hardin Ridge, but we drive around the lake to Fourwind to rent their boats; which the fleet is always well taken care of and replaced often.

My friend and I stayed at Fourwinds for a girl's weekend. Every staff member that we came into contact with was super friendly and helpful. The service could not have been better and that is a huge positive at this hotel! The room was nicely decorated and we loved the stone wall, coffee maker, mini fridge, and oversized balcony. The view from our balcony was beautiful and relaxing. Windjammer (the on-site restaurant) was busy both nights that we visited yet the servers and manager were amazing! They worked SO hard to take care of the crowd and did so with a smile. We watched one younger server superbly handle an unhappy customer. I'm typically a good tipper but was rountiely tipping 40 to 50% because I was so impressed with the staff. I cannot give enough positive praise to the hard working servers or front desk workers!

We had no plans to rent a boat since neither of us has a boating license and that was our biggest mistake. Lake Monroe is beautiful and the scenery is great. The pool area was extremely small and there were only 10 to 12 lounge chairs. The hotel no longer requires masks and serves a buffet for breakfast so COVID seems to be less of a concern; therefore, I couldn't understand the lack of chairs by the pool and in the tiny beach area. While service was impeccable, the food was average at most. There was only 1 gluten friendly option on the menu at Windjammers and the breakfast buffet in Tradewinds cost $16 yet served the same items that many hotels routinely provide in a complimentary breakfast. There is nothing within a 10 to 15 minute drive from the hotel so having an evening out or even a nice dinner that includes more than bar food is not possible without a designated driver.

Many have raved about this property on Trip Advisor and I can see why, but for me personally, I will not be back. I prefer to be in a place in a better location (even hiking in the state park was a challenge due to poorly kept and even more poorly marked trails) with more food, alcohol, and activity choices. However, if choosing to rent a boat, it may be a good choice for you since the room, service, and views were wonderful!

I went on this trip with my mother. When I requested that we need separate beds they offered me a "two-room "suite" option. I thought, great two bedrooms! Wrong.
Wed and Thursday night price $339 a night and Friday and Saturday night $459 a night. Seemed really high but I thought man this place must be really nice! WRONG.
1. The rooms were two rooms but not bedrooms, two rooms with a very uncomfortable sleeper sofa in the living room.
2. The lamps were broken the floors were filthy behind the stained pull-out couch.
3. The porch was disgustingly covered in cobwebs and bird poo everywhere the outside furniture was cheap and wobbly the porch was unusable.
4. The pool was by reservation only, however, they did tell us that up-front.
5. There was only ONE restaurant open at a time although the food was decent the floors and tables were dirty and there were flies all over the place. The restaurant windows were so dirty you couldn't even hardly see the lake.
++I actually requested a different room and they said they didn't have any offered us a free breakfast. We were so very disappointed we left a day early. They told me they would only refund me 1/2 of Saturday after I insisted I did end up getting a full refund for Saturday. This place is ok at best and worth about $100 a night MAX. DO NOT spend the money to stay there. I travel all over the country and when I spend this kind of money on a hotel room I expect it to be clean, nice and great service. Not the case here.

I think 2.5 stars is more reasonable than 2 stars. The place is “meh”. It isn’t maintained well. There are spiderwebs everywhere outside. It is understaffed. One of the two restaurants was closed (the week of July 4th) other than for breakfast - but the kitchen was the same (same menu) so it wouldn’t have mattered much.

The food at the restaurant for lunch and dinner was decent. Nothing special but edible. Breakfast is another story - it is quite bad…there is no effort made…..none.

I would highly recommend leaving the property and eating at the “Sahm” at eagle point golf club - a 5 minute drive. Great atmosphere and menu, they have a large covered patio with fans and games for kids.

The rooms were dated but clean. There was no maid service for our block of 8 rooms even though we stayed here 5 days / 4 nights (so a total of 32 nights for our group). When we asked for a room cleaning the staff responded that they were really busy and couldn’t do it….I know it is more difficult to find people to clean rooms every day, but that is unacceptable.

When we asked for fresh towels we had to bring the dirty towels to the front desk to change them out.

On the positive side, the staff was pleasant and the firework show on the 4th was well executed.

I think this place continues to do ok because there is no competition on the lake.

Pros: Rooms were clean, staff was friendly! During peak season, probably the best place to go. Beds were really comfortable. Girls loved the pool. Since it was off season, it was very quiet and peacful.

Cons: Took forever to get hot water in the shower. Took a long time to get food from the restaurant (and this was when there was no one in the place) It was winter, so it would have been great to have the fireplace going in the lobby but it was disconnected.
Didn't like that if you didn't have 2 pool towels in your room when you left you would be charged $15, per towel.
Due to COVID, the breakfast was a bag breakfast which contained an apple, granola bar and either a breakfast sandwhich or Eggo pancakes for the microwave. I can eat at the restaurant but they can't served breakfast there?

One thing we can't explain is why and how several of our girls and myself included came out with burnt or irritated faces. The girls thought maybe the pool chemicals, but I didn't swim, but yet we all had irritation under our eyes on the day we checked out. Not sure if it was the water or maybe detergent in the towels, but something irritated our skin.

Just wasn't impressed with our stay.

My husband and I stayed here for my birthday. First time and had really high hopes. For nearly $400 per night you'd expect a clean room, an on-site restaurant for a nice dinner, employees who were eager to help. Not the case. We were placed in a handi-accesdible room so shower with fold down chair. The shower was small and the floor had mold around the bottom of the tile. There were 2 drains, one in the shower and one just outside of the shower. The sewage smell was overwhelming. The mattress was lumpy, the room was dark and I'm guessing this place has not been updated since the 80s. The Tradewinds restaurant did not serve dinner and only offered a hot breakfast on Saturday and Sunday for $16.99 per person each day. Not worth it. The continental breakfast was a joke. The first day we had questions about amenities and met with, "I'm not sure" much of the time. With the exception of renting a boat one day at the marina, we spent our entire trip hanging out at the nearby golf course restaurant and pool.

We will not be back which is sad because we have been here several times over the years. We understand the resort is old and that is fine. But this year the facility was filthy: cobwebs/bugs in corners; carpets unswept; dried food and filth in bottom of kitchen trash cans; inside of kitchen undersink cabinet was dirty; what looked like an entire bag of dried up frozen peas was on the floor between the stove and cabinet in my brother's room; wi-fi was terrible and available only on patio. NEVER received room service, even when our card was placed on the door, which means our one kitchen towel and dishcloth had to last 3 days. Kitchen lacked basic equipment. No large trash receptacles outside or in stairwells to accommodate full kitchen trash bags. Overall, disgusting especially when you consider we paid $339 per night. What a total sham.

The resort did a great job of booking a really good band for Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. And what they did correctly stopped there.
In the past, there has been a bar setup on the patio for events like this. We took our lawn chairs and our money, expecting to enjoy drinks on a beautiful evening. If you wanted any beverage, you had to go back into the hotel and wait in a huge line for the restaurant to even be let into the bar. We heard that it was taking 20 minutes to get to the bar to place an order. Very few people had drinks from the bar. After a while, word must have spread because we saw many latecomers bring in their own coolers.
My husband previously managed restaurants, and we talked about the huge opportunities missed by management on this evening. They paid for a great band and then missed chances to make money off of it!
P.S. There is a beautiful view behind the lower patio. Put the band down there so your guests are looking at the water and use the upper patio for food and beverage service with lawn space in between.

Thank you for taking the time to reflect on your recent visit. We in "management", as well as the entire team do hope to restore some of the amenities that we have had in the past. With COVID restrictions having only been lifted the Monday before, it will take some time to bring back what was "NORMAL" in the past. I can say that we were very happy about the huge line for the restaurant. Thanks again for your input.
