Good position on the main street with reasonable number of bars nearby. Also within reasonable walking distance of the most interesting sites and the numerous tourist shops for souvenirs. I'd happily stay again

A very tired, 3 star hotel (by North American standards), located in the city. We were told by our guide that this was the best available in town. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. No shower curtain or door for the bathtub, resulting in water on the floor after a shower. Unable to communicate the need for gluten-free selections with the restaurant staff .

First, let me start by saying that this was my fourth visit to Ethiopia, and Aksum was my least favorite place to visit. Every stereotype about difficult travel in Ethiopia was magnified here like nowhere else. Then there was Yared Zema Hotel. Where to begin? So much about these reviews rang true. The (cold) shower leaked everywhere, a cockroach poked around my toiletries, stiff bed, useless wifi. Also blood spots on my sheets, the pickup from the airport that never came. All of this is typical Ethiopia, but not at all at these prices. Hotels in Addis are so much better by comparison (and price). Two things were going for this hotel: the room had a table fan that cut some of the noise, and breakfast actually was not as bad as what I saw reported here: there was fresh cooked spinach (yum!) and some kick ass fresh fruit juices that they didn’t sweeten with sugar, and drinkable coffee. But I wonder if you you can do better at the price they are asking, in Aksum. This place seems to be meant for German tour groups (arriving daily), those poor dears.…

Very simple and unattractive rooms. Plumbing not working . There was no hot water. The place was not very clean. I can accept faults especially in Ethiopia, not exactly a tourist place, but hot water and working flowing shower head is a must and unfortunately I did not have it.

It is a hotel with lots of tourists, and maybe because of that they do not manage to clean well the rooms. We were given a room with a bathroom not clean after the previous customers left. we complained and were given a clean room. But in the evening and morning we saw little cockroaches in the bathroom. Also at lunch there were lots of flies in the dinning room. Food very poor.

This was my second stay here in less than a year. The first visit wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. My friends couldn’t get hot water, the breakfast coffee had a strange taste, etc. When my friends and I returned to Axum a few weeks later we decided to stay at another hotel (Sabean). For this trip, because of the price, I decided to give Yared another chance. No hot water. Breakfast coffee had the same weird taste. TV had one station that barely worked. Bed was hard. I even saw a restaurant worker wipe a plate WITH HIS HAND as he was stacking clean plates. Would I stay here again? Yes. It’s consistent in its problems, so at least I know what to expect. What would be great is if management made changes to address the consistent problems that other customers and I have faced. This place had so much more potential. …

I stayed as part of a tour group, and half of our group had trouble with the plumbing in their rooms. There was no hot water the first day of our two day stay, and I couldn’t get hot water even after it had supposedly been fixed. I rejected the first room I was allocated as there was water on the bathroom floor. In the next room I was allocated, the shower head was completely blocked, so no water came out. After housekeeping serviced my room the toilet was blocked (I found a soap wrapper floating in the toilet after housekeeping had been). An attendant from the hotel tried to fix it, but ultimately their solution was to provide a towel to soak up the water leaking from the toilet. That said, bed was clean and comfortable, and I found restaurant and bar service to be fine, and the hotel is in a good location. Bar fridge in the room was a nice touch too.…

The rooms in the hotel are nicely appointed, the beds are comfortable and there is a nice balcony. It is well-located, on the main drag. Wifi was the worst of any hotel I stayed in Ethiopia. Breakfast is a joke: cold firfir, cold eggs, cold toast, and Tang. No fruit, no chance of getting hot food, all served in the most unappealing dining room imaginable. But the worst part of my stay is that there was no hot water during three days. The first day the staff admitted there was a problem; the next two two days they just lied and lied and failed to accept that the problem had not been fixed. This is a very poorly managed property. Avoid.

Ethiopia is a poor country due to its turbulent history. Tourism is in its infancy here. There is a notable lack of construction expertise, electricians, plumbers and carpenters, and we found the quality of workmanship almost everywhere we stayed to be poor. We travelled with a tour group. The reception area of the Yared Zema Hotel was pleasant. Our room had a comfortable double bed as well as a single bed. I must have fallen quickly into a deep sleep because I did not wake when my husband, realising that our duvet was not meant for a double bed and he was cold, got up to get the one from the single bed. The single duvet was thicker but he was ok. There was a single dim bulb in the ceiling that made unpacking and packing in the dark difficult. My bedside light didn’t work and the other one was on the far side of the single bed. The shower in the bathroom was good and we had hot water. There were several short power cuts. Other people were less fortunate. Floor 3 had prolonged power cuts and some people had no hot water. One lady put her room card into the socket by the door to turn on the electricity supply and the whole thing came off the wall. Reception arranged for this to be fixed but then only the lights worked. Eventually, this was fixed too but then it was time for dinner…. The food was poor. We had dinner one evening and were offered the usual chewy meat and cold vegetables. For breakfast I had a roll, butter and jam, coffee and water. There were containers of “hot” food but this was unidentifiable and unappetising. Since we were travelling as part of a group, we cannot comment on value for money since we paid for the trip as a whole.…

Good location. No hot water in the rooms. Staff did not seem to care about this. The service and food in the bar was better than in the restaurant. The breakfast left a lot to be desired. We tend to just have coffee, but noted that some of cups had chips in them.

Are there any historical sites close to Yared Zema International Hotel?
Many travelers enjoy visiting Northern Stelae Field (1.2 miles), Tombs of Kings Kaleb and Gebre Meskal (1.3 miles), and Queen of Sheba's Bath (1.1 miles).
