I had the misfortune of staying at this hotel for the first time, and fortunately the last time as well. This hotel should have no more than 2 stars. Here is why. At check-in you already get a flavor of what’s to come, nobody respects the line, people cut off in front of each other, and the front desk attendants simply don’t care, so not only do they simply don’t check you in until late afternoon, but the process itself is a zoo. Together with the fact that they try to aggressively kick you out at 11am on your check-out day, that makes for a very poor experience. Then you get to the room, forget about getting the room you asked for, they are not in the hospitality business, theirs is more alike a cattle storage business. Back to the room though, the bed linen was dirty, and clearly not changed before my stay, bathroom was filthy with hair, makeup smudges, and who know what. Not what you would expect. The fact that there was no minibar/snacks or anything did not even register with me as everything else was so bad. Now, say you want to work. Their internet connection is so bad that it takes you hours to do the work you would do in minutes with a normal connection. Imagine a dial-up speed dropping off every 90 seconds or so. You’d like some room service, forget it as well. No room service unless you count a greasy lunch box with a plastic fork and a paper napkin that you have to pick up at their cafeteria room service, which you can order only if you accept to download their app and agree to their outrageous privacy policy. Otherwise, their room service is just you going down to their cafeteria and ordering to go. In other words, you can get bad service if you give up your privacy and let them monetize your data, otherwise you get no service. Need something, or want to call the front desk, good luck with that, you’ll be directed to a customer-service automated system. Did I mention that I am an Elite member in their reward program? Why would it make a difference though, they are not in the hospitality business, or apparently care about their frequent customers.

Dear C F, Thank you for taking the time to share the details of your stay. I am so sorry to hear how poor your experience was. The lack of personal connection from our staff and the less than pristine accommodations you described are uncharacteristic of the experience we provide for our guests. Please accept our apologies. We will use your review as we continue to evaluate areas for improvement. We wish you the best in all your travels. Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center

For the SECOND year in a row our catalytic converter was stolen from our car in their parking lot, on the first night of our stay!! The hotel does not care. Since this is a repeat performance, I can't help but wonder if it is an inside job.

My husband and I visited Schaumburg after the Big 10 Men’s Basketball tournament. It is a nice, beautiful hotel. Keep in mind, it is a convention center, so it does get very busy. However, the staff keeps everything clean and tidy. The hotel and rooms are very modern… I especially like the tv in the bathroom mirror. The beds are also super comfortable! We got the breakfast buffet at the on-site restaurant, which was pricey but good. I also appreciated the free parking at the hotel, as most places around the area you have to pay $50/100 a night. Overall, it was a great stay! I would definitely consider staying again if I come back to the area!

This hotel had no services. We arrived and valet was closed. They weren’t open the next morning so security had to get our car. The restaurant was closed at 8:30 on Saturday night and no room service. No concerige lounge and the restaurant didn’t open until 7:30 am on Sunday. My tv wasn’t hooked up to the cable in the room. Just very uncharacteristic of a Renaissance. We had a large group in the hotel and for our staff staying at the property it was very unaccommodating. Bummer.

This hotel was very clean and all the staff we interacted with was very friendly and helpful. Gave great restaurant recommendations and directions to where we needed to go. Breakfast was great too. We had a service dog with us and he was welcome as well. Great stay and if in the area again will definitely stay here again.

Called Sunday morning to edit my reservation and the gal on the phone working customer service spoke rough english. I was verifying that there were two beds in the room and she told me the hotel policy could not guarentee the number of beds in a room. I asked to talk to the front desk and the gal on the phone couldn't speak proper englsih. I gave her my acknowledgement number and she only wanted numbers and I gave her the numbers but apparently she told me to settle down and not to get too excited. I was excited because that was the ref. number I was given. I asked to speak to someone who could speak english and she said sure and hung up on me. I will be canceling my reservation and going elsewhere.

My room was not cleaned completely between my stay and the previous guest—the TRASH was not emptied and there were empty bottles behind the tv & on the floor by the couch. The Wi-Fi was a hassle (an issue for all guests attending the same conference on site as me). Only water on property was at the Starbucks and I waited in line one morning for 40 minutes to buy a tea (nothing else nearby or walkable to grab a drink from). I did ask the front desk to have my trash emptied after the first night (my room was not cleaned during my two night stay) and some glitch then occurred when they then marked my room as vacant—they had me now listed in a different room, which was occupied by a different guest. A hassle for my WiFi & guest record. Mya at the front desk was lovely —the only nice thing I can say about this place. Would not recommend.

Dear PinkyFreeman, I am so sorry to hear about your experience at our hotel. You encountered one mistake after another and there is no excuse for that. We also should have communicated the options for the complimentary hotel shuttle and Schaumburg trolley which take our guests to the many restaurants and shopping venues in the neighborhood. We will certainly use your feedback to train and improve the services at our hotel. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Best wishes, Renaissance Schaumburg Hotel and Convention Center

The hotel is generally ok but as to be expected with a convention hotel it is not perfect. All the staff I had contact with were pleasant and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The general ambience of the establishment is pleasant and services are delivered efficiently. There is a sign in the reception lobby that advises the hotel was dedicated in 2006. It seems that the architects were given licence to design a spectacular front entrance. At the time the entrance lobby concept may have been fashionable. Now it looks like the entrance to one of saddam hussein’s palaces - gaudy and over the top. Design can be a personal thing but the hotel should remove the pointless energy consuming radiant heaters over the entrance door. To also be kinder to the environment, ensure the hotel’s bus driver does not leave a driverless bus with the engine running. Consider fitting detectors to the many escalators on site so they do not consume energy when not being used. The whole site including the convention centre needs an environmental audit and action. One annoyance I have in Marriott chain hotels is the gap under bedroom entrance doors. Whatever is done to reduce inter-room noise is offset by noise transmission to corridors. I enjoyed the restaurant but maybe some more modern food options including vegetarian options and healthy choices. It is easy to complain about hotels when at this time sourcing staff and other issues must be a challenge. The renaissance is however generally clean and efficient but the corporate suits do need a check on environmental issues.
