We were looking for somewhere for a walk this BH Monday and checked out nearby pubs. Loved the sound of the pies (and sausages). We were not disappointed as the two varieties tried (pork & chorizo and game & bacon) were delicious, as were the chips & peas. We shouldn't have bothered with the puds though as were not impressed... More

We regularly stop at this pub for lunch (well at least once a year) when are cycling group ride down to the New Forest. It is bike friendly and has great food and beer. The pies are a firm favourite. 4*

Whenever we visit my daughter in this lovely county we try to visit this wonderful pub. Deep in olde England it nestles in the Test Valley and once found exudes all that is good about our delightful country. The menu is always studied but it has to be pies. Hand crafted and accompanied by chips and unctuous mushy peas these... More

Yes it was quite a nice oldy worldy pub in a nice little village. The menu was quite nice and the staff friendly. We both chose grilled salmon steak which was nicely cooked and very healthy but we both felt the meal had little taste and was rather bland.

What a refreshing change to visit a pub that has retained its character. A thatched pub set in the beautiful village of Wherwell. Plenty of walks near the famous river Test. Welcomed by friendly staff the relaxed atmosphere is further enhanced by allowing well behaved dogs . Well attended by the locals and a regular stop-off for vintage car and... More

We booked a table here based on a friends recommendation and a strong review from Trip Advisor. We went for the pies as the selection looked fabulous. They were nice but nothing that I could have cooked at home. The mash was watery with boiled cabbage added and quite bland to the taste, it was a poor attempt at bubble... More

Typical village pub, cosy interior, friendly staff. First visit with the wife and two friends.Food was classed as excellent by my companions but I lost out as not being too hungry at the time I chose to have the beef burger and it was terrible, some sort of sausage meat squashed together and fried. Not the flavour of a burger... More

Called in while passing through the area. Friendly staff and locals, excellent food, all homecooked. No complaints at all, also dog friendly. All in all a very pleasant experience. Will call in again!

Dropped in here for lunch before fishing at Newton Stacey the other day. The Landlord is a lovely chap and very friendly. The lunch menu is excellent and the locally made pies are excellent. Good real ales on tap and very good value.. I believe its all been recently done up. Will definitely be returning, especially with the 10% off... More

This is a lovely looking pub set in one of the most picturesque villages in the area. The village sits along of a long partly wooded country lane with properties including several half timbered ones on either side of the road. The pub itself is entered from the side as the front is on the main road and consists of... More
