Detailed Reviews
For a property described as a "boutique hotel" it was very reasonably priced. The rooms were lovely with very up to date bathrooms. Leaving the outside wall brick is a nice touch and adds to the historic feel of the place. The lobby is gorgeous and has a seating area that is a library. The breakfast was different than I had previously -- you left a doorhanger with your choices by midnight and between 6-9 you could go down and pick up your breakfast. The lobby coffee was good as well. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and will return here next time I'm in Peoria. Thank you for a great stay!

Walking through the lobby / library has the charm and presence of a time long past. Very cozy. Our room was very clean and updated. Excellent and friendly staff. Breakfast isn't served off of counter top shelf, it's served by chefs and you eñjoy in a very nice restaurant that co occupies the first floor. Will be back.

One always wonders what they're getting when a hotel is new to them. Well let me tell you we got the best. The room was perfect, just the right size , clean, and we had a great view of the river and bridge. One of the nicest perks is a shuttle bus that will take you anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel, then pick you up again when you are ready to return. Service is free!!! The free breakfast was the best. Even though we were there just before it was ending, we had a fresh selection of items. For lunch Unos pizza and salad bar was absolutely the best. All this wonderful food and excellent service and we didn't have to leave the hotel. From the moment we checked in with a very nice young gal, who by the way was able to direct us to our destination, to our check-out with another polite lady, our experience was very pleasurable. We are planning a return trip to The Mark Twain Hotel again in the summer.

Walking into the lobby, I was excited for my stay at Mark Twain Hotel. The lobby was lovely and charming. Then I got to my room...
Their website proudly declares that they are "newly renovated", but MTH and I have a different definition of renovated. There is new-looking art and decor on the walls and new light fixtures over the bed. I can say that. It does appear they painted the walls, but, honestly, a 10-year-old would have done a better job painting (and would have picked a better color). There were spots on the walls they missed, and there were dried paint drips and splatters on the floor, the furniture, and even the TV.
Speaking of the TV, it was at least 20 years old and barely worked.
The carpet in the rooms is older than the TV and I'm pretty sure they've never been cleaned. I tried not to walk barefoot in my room.
The mattresses were new but very hard. I was able to sleep on them, but if you like a soft mattress, you should definitely stay elsewhere.
For reasons beyond my comprehension (money savings?), the showers only have half a shower door, so if the shower head is not carefully aimed towards the back wall, the bathroom will be soaked by the end of your shower. If you see housekeeping, ask for a second bath mat. You will need it.
Sound carries in this hotel. You will hear everything your neighbors say and do at all hours of the day and night...unless the heater is running. It's loud enough to drown out everything else around you.
Lastly, the elevators are iffy. They're old and in desperate need of repairs.
Look, despite my bad review, I'm actually really rooting for this place. Peoria needs a quality boutique hotel, but this isn't it (yet). MTH needs an actual renovation. If the owners put in the money to replace the carpets, upgrade the TVs, buy nicer mattresses, repaint properly in a modern color, and do some work on the elevators, this place could be really great. It's just not there yet.

No shades on the large, but beautiful view of the river/bridge.
Too bright at night and too sunny after 5:30 a.m. to sleep.
Front desk had no solution except to say "you will see your bill in the email---which they never sent.
Only one elevator worked. Staircase dusty.
I use a Cpap and the filter turned black after 4 hours of use!
Breakfast consisted of choice of granola bar, juice, packaged oatmeal (sparse for a "boutique"
The shower was strange. Very cold as only a two foot wide glass separated the shower from the room= water sprayed everywhere.

Our stay was not what we expected. We read that the hotel was recently renovated and pictures looked beautiful. Well, pictures can be deceiving. Our bathroom had a bowl sink on a glass shelf. The facuet did not match up correctly, so the entire glass shelf (only storage in bathroom) gets totally soaked. In addition, the walk in shower only has a partial glass wall, so the toilet and floor gets covered in water. The carpet is was not updated and shows its age (probably from the 1990's). With all of that, the worst part is the complete lack of soundproofing. The door has a quarter inch of light completely around it, so every hallway conversation and door slamming comes into your room. With us, it was our neighbor that was the worst part. She was on her phone until close to 3:00am. We could hear her entire conversation (she is 35 and has 3 kids, been single for 5 years, does not want to be someone's better half, has her kids 100% of the time with no breaks). Needless to say, was not able to get to sleep until close to 4:30am due to the amount of endless noise coming into our room. Mentioned this issue to front desk as we checked out. We got a "I am so sorry to hear that. Have a safe trip. Bye.". It would be great for the owners to spend a night in their own hotel, so they could see how bad it is for their guests. This location is nice, but avoid if you want a good night's sleep.

First impressions aren't the best; building a little tired, parking lot at odd angles, lobby kind of dark. But when you look a little closer, the lobby is gorgeously paneled and detailed in hardwoods with a rich, traditional feel unlike the sterile or cookie cutter lobbies seen elsewhere. The front desk also has an old-world feel and the staff was very helpful. The elevators show their age but they're solid with no hiccups. The hallways and rooms are bright. They've been updated and are very well appointed. Good water pressure and temp. Not a lot to complain about

Stayed there several times and in the past loved it. It was a wonderful hotel with a great restaurant. I stayed in a "upgrade room" and I was in the room barely over an hour and I just couldn't take it. It was gross. Stained ceiling, stained carpet, stained pillows, something on the mirror, hair in fridge. Check the pictures it's stunning. Lady at desk was very nice and offered me a downgraded room but I had already packed up. So gross. Was told they would call me and refund me. Nope this was almost a week ago.

We arrived rather late, so had to disturb a young woman to help us check-in. She was friendly but distracted. While we adore the library in the lobby, with its many books and Mark Twain art, we are sad the restaurant shut down. It looks like it must have been quite a nice place.
The room itself is comfortable enough, although the carpet looks a little dingy. The bigger issue is the location - right across from the elevators and ice machine. They are all so noisy that we have to leave our fan on for white noise. I worry what it will be like in the morning, as we are on the 3rd floor, right above a busy road. It looks like there are a variety of nice rooms, just make sure you get one.

According to key cards this place is "Peoria's Premier Boutique Hotel". HA! The bar is closed, the restaurant is shut down, so no more breakfast buffet. The carpets in lobby and elevators were filthy having last been cleaned in the Carter administration. Air conditioner would drown out most small planes, and you think in 2013 a "boutique" hotel would at least have USB ports in the room.
The only saving amenity here is the friendliness of the entire staff.
Convenient if attending an event on the riverfront, otherwise look elsewhere.

I believe they do have a cancellation policy of 3pm the day before check-in, but I would check with the hotel.
Sorry I don't know the answer to that but the hotel staff was very helpful on my visit and I would recommend calling them to find out at Tel: 1-866-325-6351
Yes, you can walk to the Peoria Civic Center from the hotel. It is approximately a 3 block walk. We also have a complimentary shuttle available if you choose not to walk.
