This townhall is a wonderful out of the way private home away from home. Charming and lovely. We first found this place in 2010. We return when we can and are always pleased when we pull up in the drive.

We really enjoyed staying at the Sonora Town Hall. If you are looking for a well maintained, super clean, quiet and private getaway this is it! The cozy furnishings and decor are beautiful and look new. The location is a perfect country setting, and just a short drive to Nauvoo. We very much enjoyed our stay and Greta was a pleasure to work with. We can’t wait until our next relaxing visit. Thanks again! We will definately be back.

We had a lovely time in this B&B. it is decorated so well and inviting. We were a short distance from Navuoo but loved looking at the farms and crops. Greta had everything ready for us. We had her leave us one breakfast, which was great. We had great privacy, wonderful relaxation and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. I would certainly recommend this for a lovely visit to Navuoo. You will not be disappointed by staying here. Thanks for providing a great place for visitors to Navuoo! Ray & Jacque

We stayed at the Sonora Town Hall property over the Thanksgiving Weekend. Greta was the perfect hostess. The large room was decorated in Christmas decor - she asked if we wanted it that way and felt very cozy, though it is a HUGE room. She left us to ourselves for the three nights we were there, though we could have opted for breakfast for $10 more. I do have 2 suggestions (see below), but I would not have stayed anywhere else in Nauvoo. The price was excellent for the great room we got. Be aware that Greta does not clean every day, but this really was not a problem. We enjoyed being left to ourselves and seeing the Church History sites in Nauvoo. We originally booked a room at the Nauvoo Family Inn & Suites, but canceled to stay here. I 'm so glad we did! We did stop by the Nauvoo Family Inn & Suites and found patrons sifting through envelopes with keys to their rooms in the locked lobby. There apparently was no staff on hand to assist them with the check in process. Greta was always available by telephone to answer questions. The location is about ~ 5 miles to the sites in Nauvoo, but the drive is short and at this time of year there really are not many good options for food in Downtown Nauvoo. So by staying at this location, you are 1/3 the way to Keokuck - which does have some good restaurants and you can really have some privacy. Two suggestions: 1. Please put a chest of drawers and/or an armoire. in your cute room. I really like to unpack my suite case and put away my clothes. I am just particular about this. 2. Please flush the jetted tub before we get there. I used it once, but the jets spit out little black flecks. This happens in our jetted bath tub at home when it is not used for several months.

Response from farmgarden, Owner at Sonora Gardens Farmstead Bed and Breakfast

Thank you for your review. I will see what I can do to fit a small chest in the town hall. There's limited room, but we may be able to work something out. Greta suggestion! Sorry about the whirlpool. Sometimes it sits without much use. I can sure run the jets before folks check in. Due to our rural water we have some build up issues. Thanks so much for coming! Hope to see you again here on the farm! Greta

After train delays and car rental delays, it was dark when my 70-year old mother, 11-year old son and I pulled into the Sonora Town Hall, conveniently located just outside of Nauvoo, IL. With candles glowing in every window and corn fields all around us, we opened the front door and were absolutely delighted with our temporary new home! The size, ceiling height, whitewashed wood floors, cleanliness and lovely country decor & furnishings were better than we had anticipated! (The photos don't do it justice). The owner, Greta lives in the farmhouse on the same property which is also a bed & breakfast and I had no idea the Town Hall itself (a separate one-room building with luxurious private bath) had such a beautifully rich history & was once a real town hall! This property is truly a hidden gem and so affordable. If you are looking for location, privacy, value and country charm - this is the place! We will definitely stay here again!
