We try to spend 3-4 days each year in the off season at Nauvoo, Illinois. We always stay at Nauvoo Log Cabins. The cabins were all actual residences which were disassembled and moved to Nauvoo, modernized with appliances and bathrooms. There is a notebook in each cabin with its history and photos. The cabins accommodate 2-10 very comfortably and are delightfully decorated, pioneer style. The draw for us is the restored sites in old Nauvoo which in its time was the largest city west of the Appalachian Mountains, larger in its time then Chicago! Nauvoo was where the “Mormons” resorted to settle after being driven by mobs and the government from Missouri. After extensive archaeological and restorative effort, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has brought back many of the original buildings through restoration or recreation. The major sites are manned with senior church members who conduct tours, are well versed in the history and function as working staff in many of the sites. There is a functioning blacksmith shop, a brick yard, bakery, J. Browning’s gunsmith shop, a tin smith shop, newspaper and multiple residences. There are ox cart rides, horse drawn wagon tours and buggy rides...and it’s all free!!! The history and restored sites of the area are fascinating. For meals we cook in the cabin with the pans and utensils provided or go to a great Mexican restaurant 12 minutes away in Hamilton, I’ll. There are also places in Keokuk, IA. Some of our favorite day trips have been to the Amana Colonies in Amana, IA... Great shops, museums and German food. Ft Madison IA is just 9 minutes away and the old Fox Theater may have a smaller screen, but we watched the latest movies, got a popcorn and large drink for $8.00!!! If you’re looking to get away from it all, give this a try. I’m sure you will not be disappointed.

This little log cabin "town" is adorable, as well as comfortable and functional. We stayed one night in the Howell cabin and had a great time. The beds were all comfortable and the cabin was spotlessly clean. The check in process is a little unusual because there is no one in the office. We met the owner when we arrived and she took us to the cabin, but it looks like if you arrive (and this could just be an off season situation) and no one is in the office, you'll find a note on the door indicating that the keys to your cabin are in the cabin. There is laundry on site, but no supplies for purchase. We easily found what we needed at Dollar General in Nauvoo. These cabins are not within walking distance to the restored sites in town. Probably not within walking distance to food or groceries either. While its highly unlikely you'd be in this area without a car, it's worth mentioning if you're with a bus group or something like that. We would most certainly recommend this property and would stay there again if we are ever in the area.

We stayed in the Jamison and had a wonderful time. We loved the experience of going back in time a little bit. It was clean and the little kitchen had all we needed. The grounds we clean and the staff was very friendly. We would definitely stay here again!

We LOVED our Sander’s cabin!! Arriving to our personalized welcome sign made it even more special. The owners did such an amazing job of decorating and achieving the perfect level of comfort, cozy and cabin that made me want to stay. I wish we could have spent ALL our nights here and will definitely be back! There were so many little details and touches like extra quilts and the wagon wheel swing on the porch that just made you feel at home. Amazing stay!!

This is our second time to stay here. The cabins are charmingly decorated, comfortable, and we loved how well stocked the kitchens were. We were here in the summer and the AC kept everyone comfortable. We also enjoyed being able to walk to the town/sights of nauvoo. Thank you! We will be back!
