This lovely B&B was a bit away from our ultimate destination in the Shawnee National Forest, but the great online reviews pulled us in. Our two-night stay exceeded all expectations! Sidwell Friends B&B is simply a gem, and one of our finest B&B experiences in years. Larry is a gracious and generous host. The house is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, and pleasantly comfortable. The Dunaven Room had a very comfortable mattress, luxurious sheets, and a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub. Scrumptious breakfasts got our days off to a great start, and a delightful backyard nook was a pleasant place to wind down at night. Mt. Vernon is a quiet town. We greatly enjoyed the sculpture garden walk just up the street. We left with great memories of our visit.
Stayed here for one night on the way back home. Had a wonderful quiet evening, and a delicious breakfast of fruit/granola/eggs in the morning. Our host was very friendly. Would stay here again for sure.
A most enjoyable stay. Larry (Mr. Sidwell) could not have been more welcoming and friendly. Room and bath both exemplary, comfortable and pristine clean. Breakfast perfect. Thanks Larry. Hope to stay again.
Upon entering the driveway you can tell this is a wonderful place. We were warmly welcomed by our host Larry. The house is wonderfully decorated and everywhere you look there are unique items that make you wonder about the story behind them. You are encouraged to use any of the common rooms- dining, sitting room, library, parlor. There is a cooler with water and tea and coffee service and a few snacks available in the hall by the rooms. The room was very spacious and the bath had a heated floor and towel rack. There was a jacuzzi and robes and any amenities you would need. The bed was very comfortable. There was a great selection of books and DVDs you could use. Breakfast was delicious and served on different china each day. The best part was the conversations we had with Larry about Mount Vernon culture, bed and breakfasts, architecture and family genealogy. We highly recommend Sidwell Friends Bed and Breakfast and hope to return in the near future. If we could we would give 6 stars.…
Larry is the consummate host. He goes far out of his way to ensure his guests have a good experience. Friendly, good conversationalist and gave me bacon even though my aunt asked for just a continental breakfast -- he knew I secretly wanted bacon. The house is beautiful and the neighborhood is good for walks and sitting outside. Our rooms were immaculate and there was tea, coffee and snacks available. Chocolates are always a good thing. As far as above and beyond, I left my glasses in my room when we left and Larry texted me and then delivered them to the art museum. Thank you Larry, you are the best.
