This lodge was created by the CCC in the 30's and is in the middle of Giant City State Park. Good home style food in a lodge full of character. Beautiful wood work, stone front and walkway, and if you want to walk off your calories consumed, hike on the trails of Giant City or up the water tower for... More

The Giant City Lodge is a three story stone structure built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's, and has massive doors and windows, huge fireplaces, and sturdy furniture. There are stuffed game on the walls and a stuffed buffalo standing guard on the lobby. The attached restaurant was probably built or updated after the original building. We stayed... More

Lived in the area for 15+ years and never tried it. Came through the area for a quick visit and eat there with my family. Absolutely loved it. Food was great, service was good, and atmosphere was cozy. It is a must try if you are in the area. Once you finish dinner take a stroll up the water tower... More

What a beautiful country we live in! The Giant City Lodge/Park/Area is a testament to the beauty in our world! The park and area is very well kept and the lodge is comfy and quaint with delicious food! Some family faves are the fried chicken, chicken and dumplings, fresh veggies and any homestyle buffet item! We will definitely be back!

I brought a large group in for dinner. Our waitress was rude and sharp with my mother. I simple asked her to be kind and that we all thought she was rude. She replied in a rude manner and said I will get you a different waitress. I spoke with James the manager he was just as rude and walked... More

This place was amazing, beautiful and wonderful food. The service was fast and friendly. Mr. Richard Kelley was so nice when we stopped in his office and spoke with him. Just like an old friend. Definitely a place to visit again!

Giant city Lodge and restaurant is tucked away in Makada, IL. It is only about 20 miles from Carbondale Illinois and Southern Illinois University. They are known as the outstanding place to get fried chicken. It is brought to your table in family-style. There is also a fantastic lodge and cabins.

Stayed there for 4 days in a 1 room historic cabin. If you need internet, tv or cell phone 24/7 this is not for you. I totally enjoyed becoming tuned out for a few days. There is WiFi available inside the actual lodge if you really need it. The restaurant is great. The food is very good and the servers... More

The cabin had amenities like coffee maker, TV, heating/cooling, mini-fridges, satellite tv and an extra murphy bed in case you want to sleep while watching tv. we had bare minimum... More
