A very lovely house with a lot of trees and flowers. We booked a lodge which was less than obe year old with a perfect view on the sea and the garden with a private whirlool at a reasonable price. Best lodges are 22-23 which are located in the front. Second row 24 and 25 right behind. Ask for the...

I think ones feeling about this hotel depends on what room one has. We were supposedly upgraded to room 19 which was in a characterless block .It had the most stunning views but that was definitely the best thing about it. It was a bedroom and living room but strangely decorated - a mix of Ikea fixings and storage with...

We stayed here our first 2 nights in Sicily. It was a bit hard to find, but well worth it for the jasmine was in bloom, even in September, the sea was in view from the pool and Mt. Etna was glimpsed in the morning, before clouding over. We dined here both nights and the food was very good, their...

Went as family of four (children 5 and 8). Donna Carmela is very nice, mostly pretty tranquil, and very nice staff (especially Giuseppe, who was very nice with the children - grazie G!). It's protected by an electronic door, so you feel very safe. However, nothing is really extra special. The pool is a nice design, but is only about...

We stayed for 2 nights in this beautiful place. We had arranged for a tour of their wineyards in advance; we got to see the ranks and taste wine, Mt Etna nearby- a great experience ! The restaurant in this place is top class, a reason to visit in itself! We had the tasting meny, worth every cent. The sommelier...

Donna Carmela is a very stylish boutique hotel set in stunning grounds with a lovely pool area and great views of the sea. Our suites were spacious and well appointed - we had one sea view and one Etna view suite but we didn't open the windows much as it was so hot! It is a great location for visiting...

We stayed 3 nights in mid July. The staff greeting was great and the staff at the front remained very professional and helpful... Even ordering a take away pizza! Our rooms had a balcony over the restaurant view beautiful views of Etna one way and distant sea views the other. The room was more of a suite with a separate...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A home in the parkPlaced in the heart of a nursery specialised in Mediterranean plants, Donnacarmela is ready to welcome you in a 19th century Sicilian house that has been refurbished in full respect of the original but given all the modern comforts. Elegantly refined, the building dominates the ten thousand square metre nursery garden. Here you may enjoy a guided tour to discover the hundreds of scents and varieties of Mediterranean plants. It is also possible to admire a private collection of subtropical plants. The courtyards in lavic paving, the ancient cistern and river pebbles, the well-stocked wine cellar and the swimming surrounded by secular olive trees, the comfortable spaces designed to relax and the quiet reading room, the wide halls and ample dining room: all this has been designed to make your stay exceptional. Ten hectares in the most prestigious wine area on mount Etna are where we produce the Doc wine for Donnacarmela. The vineyards were bought by Donnacarmela in 2006 and they are between Solicchiata and Passopisciaro on the northern side of the volcano in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards all grow Nerello Mascalese, the vine that produces the most appreciated wines in this area. This is where the ‘Montedolce Etna Doc’ is born from the passion and commitment of the Faro family in an area that has wine for its vocation. The name of the wine comes from the place where we produce it. The wine-making is done in a well-equipped cellar in Mascali, the area of origin of the Nerello Mascalese, only a few kilometres away from Donnacarmela.Montedolce is characterised by its ruby-red colour, red berry scents with mineral notes, and by the complexity, persistence and elegant tannin it offers the palate. We do not only offer wine and taste, however. A little lower down the mountain side, between the Ionic coast and the first hills, it is possible to find the Mediterranean plants that have found the best environment to grow here. Thus, they develop into unrepeatable shapes and colours: the Abutilon, the Agave, the Ficus, the Cistus, the Opuntiae, the ornamental Citrus plants are all to be found in the gardens of Donnacarmela. They are the essence of Mediterranean gardens. Tese plants and flowers offer themselves to visitors in all their charm. ... more   less
