We stayed 3 nights in mid July. The staff greeting was great and the staff at the front remained very professional and helpful... Even ordering a take away pizza! Our rooms had a balcony over the restaurant view beautiful views of Etna one way and distant sea views the other. The room was more of a suite with a separate... More

I liked a lot about Donna Carmela - the setting is beautiful and it is nicely decorated. The staff is so nice and accommodating that its easy to overlook a lot of shortcomings. Front desk staff is so professional - better than most 5 star properties. the rooms are ok - a bit run down but the staff addressed every... More

We stayed at Donna Carmela for 11 days, the personnel was very helpful, thoughtful and friendly. The hotel itself is very nice, beautiful plants, flowers and olive treas, a nice pool (also dressing rooms, showers, bar and towel service), nice rooms with good beds and excellent food. Really a place to "decompress" ;-) and relax. Can recommend to book an... More

My daughter was married in Ragusa, Sicily in May. We booked 2 nights at Donna Carmela to visit and hike at Etna. When I arrived I explained that we had been traveling for 10 days we had wash and fold laundry and I explained we had tried to use a laundromat in Catania but found only one working washing machine.... What a very pleasant surprise! This boutique hotel is a gem. Beautiful rooms, excellent cuisine and service in a setting of a tropical paradise overlooking the sea. We cannot wait to return next year. Donna Carmella is now at the top of our list of wonderful places to stay!

We chose this place after some friends recommended it based on the warm service and good food in the restaurant. We came with a baby and the place was great. The service was great throughout from the porter to the receptionist to the waiters at breakfast and dinner. The place is very nice, especially the breakfast garden. The food in... More

Visited Donna Carmela for a weekend break. The place has super design, eco friendly, extremely helpful and polite staff. Rooms are well designed with different welcoming decor. Our upstairs downstairs suite with little terrace was more than adequate, I can imagine how more pleasant the place is in warmer weather. The dining experience and attention given to serving, choice of... More

This property is part of a family of businesses that includes an upscale garden landscaping design firm, Piante Faro with operation worldwide for over 40 years. Near to the relatively new hotel property we visited the company's Radicepura Environmental Landscape Design Center. The hotel's front desk staff went well out of their way to facilitate our attending a promotional conference... More

- Delayed check in; - room outside the property in a building site; and - bad and cold customer service. One thing is design (boutique hotels are everywhere these days), another thing is good service. I stayed at Donna Carmela last June because I was invited to a wedding in Taormina. I called them in advance to ask for early... More

We stayed two nights at Donna Carmela as part our honeymoon and it just wasn't long enough! It's a beautiful hotel, in quiet surroundings. From the moment you arrive, staff was very welcoming and everything is calm and in place. It just makes you feel relaxed straight away. We were very fortunate to be upgraded to a suite and it... Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A home in the parkPlaced in the heart of a nursery specialised in Mediterranean plants, Donnacarmela is ready to welcome you in a 19th century Sicilian house that has been refurbished in full respect of the original but given all the modern comforts. Elegantly refined, the building dominates the ten thousand square metre nursery garden. Here you may enjoy a guided tour to discover the hundreds of scents and varieties of Mediterranean plants. It is also possible to admire a private collection of subtropical plants. The courtyards in lavic paving, the ancient cistern and river pebbles, the well-stocked wine cellar and the swimming surrounded by secular olive trees, the comfortable spaces designed to relax and the quiet reading room, the wide halls and ample dining room: all this has been designed to make your stay exceptional. Ten hectares in the most prestigious wine area on mount Etna are where we produce the Doc wine for Donnacarmela. The vineyards were bought by Donnacarmela in 2006 and they are between Solicchiata and Passopisciaro on the northern side of the volcano in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards all grow Nerello Mascalese, the vine that produces the most appreciated wines in this area. This is where the ‘Montedolce Etna Doc’ is born from the passion and commitment of the Faro family in an area that has wine for its vocation. The name of the wine comes from the place where we produce it. The wine-making is done in a well-equipped cellar in Mascali, the area of origin of the Nerello Mascalese, only a few kilometres away from Donnacarmela.Montedolce is characterised by its ruby-red colour, red berry scents with mineral notes, and by the complexity, persistence and elegant tannin it offers the palate. We do not only offer wine and taste, however. A little lower down the mountain side, between the Ionic coast and the first hills, it is possible to find the Mediterranean plants that have found the best environment to grow here. Thus, they develop into unrepeatable shapes and colours: the Abutilon, the Agave, the Ficus, the Cistus, the Opuntiae, the ornamental Citrus plants are all to be found in the gardens of Donnacarmela. They are the essence of Mediterranean gardens. Tese plants and flowers offer themselves to visitors in all their charm. ... more   less
