Checked in on April 24, 2021. Room 104 was badly maintained. There was a continuous flow of water in the bathroom sink and it was audible even with the door closed. The thermostat would not work and it was pretty damn cold all night. Finally, the lighting in the room was terrible, making it difficult to read. Not my idea of a comfortable stay.

Stayed here for an armwrestling tournament in nearby Pocahontas Illinois. Check-in was quick. However, during check-in we had to listen to the loud ramblings of a local yokel yelling into her cell phone while getting money from the lobby ATM. The ATM was outside the video slots room in the lobby that's open to the public. Yay. Then we were told because of Covid, the usual breakfast was cancelled, so there'd be a bag breakfast of a granola bar, fruit and juice. Ok. Not much you can do about that. Then we asked if the pool was at least open for use. Negative on that as well. Not because of Covid, but because it was undergoing some repairs apparently. Ahh. So how about a discount since we cannot use the amenities? Nope on that too. Got to room. Seemed clean. However, my wife noticed a sharp piece of metal protruding from the bed frame on her side. She had to move the chair's ottoman to cover it so she wouldn't cut herself. On the right side of the bed -which was my side-the mattress drooped down as soon as I'd roll over there. So I had to constantly scooch towards the middle. Did not get very good sleep because of it. No changing rooms either because they were at capacity. Well, in the rare case we go back to the area, we will find a different place to stay for sure.

My family stayed at the Baymont in Highland while visiting family for the weekend. It was extremely unacceptable that the front desk worker who checked us in and out was not wearing a mask. Other workers we saw were wearing masks but not fully covering their nose and mouth. The hotel had signage indicating that masks were required but we also saw guests not wearing masks. The employee and management of this hotel have no regard for the health and safety of their guests or the state regulations put in place. When my wife mentioned to the clerk that he should wear a mask, he sarcastically gave her a thumbs up sign. These are the exact reasons why this area of the state is experiencing increasingly higher positivity rates.
