A group of 6 friends, we have just spent the last couple of weeks at Niyama, just as the Coronavirus pandemic took hold globally. Despite the immense pressure, with flight restrictions and cancellations, extremely worrying news stories from around the world, and our anxieties for our children, families and friends at home, the whole island team at Niyama ensured that our holiday remained perfect. The quality of service was impeccable, and it was obvious that the staff took great pride in the service they provided, and also in the resort itself. The personal butler service is the best we have experienced, very easy to make arrangements, always on hand, yet never intrusive. Thank you so much Renjian. The food was always wonderful, and again the staff made every effort to ensure that we enjoyed every meal. The dining experience at Edge and Tribal restaurants is exceptional, really top class, hard to believe how good, considering the fact we were on a small island in the middle of Indian ocean. We would like to pass on our best wishes to the General Manager, Haf, his management team, and the whole resort team......thank you all so much for your help and support and we hope that the current disruption is short lived. We are thinking of you xx

I Don't know if you have time to read the full review, but at least I want to tell that when we leave we were about to cry, we felt like we had a family here and we are about to leave them, it was really hard to say goodbye for these amazing people. Okay let me tell you about my stay on Niyama, I was planning our anniversary, and we choose this private island, we went to Maldives after we arrived, there was someone from the hotel waiting for us, he took us to a nice lounge before we go to the Niyama island by sea plane. when we arrived to the island, There were a lot of the staff someone helping with the luggage, the other one greeting, and then I meet someone looks like one of the staff as all of them wear the same uniform, this guy made this trip outstanding. he introduced himself as Mughni and told me I can speak your language and English just tell me what do you prefer, then he gave us a tour on the island, basically he started from the edge of the island and stopped at the edge of the other side, there was a lot of things to do a lot of restaurants a lot of activities, you want get bored anyway soon in your stay, after that he dropped us on our water villa, after we relaxed a bit we find out that they booked us a dinner at the epicure restaurant (I don't know if I wrote the name right xD) It was such a lovely restaurant in front of a pool, the food there was good (not great) you have a menu as well as an open buffet. After the first day I realised that there is a lot of things to do and I have to book for the dinner for everyday, I wrote a list with all activities that we want to do, and ask our Thakuru Mughni to arrange everything for us, literally I just tell me this is our list and he arranged all of them in no time(I did a lot of adjustment to this list later and he made all of them with a big smile) unfortunately, for the activities, I cancelled some of them and couldn't do some of them, but let me tell you about the tennis lesson, I found that there is a tennis coach her name is Adriana, and she gives a lesson in 165$ for one hour no matter what is your level, I don't hold a tennis racket on my whole life, and I leave the court after this day and I really want to compete on a tennis tournament someday, literally this is was my feeling, it was such a great lesson, her way of coaching her drills and practice made the experience amazing and I able smoothly to play and do some exchanges, I really enjoyed it, and if I went back to Niyama for sure I will book multiple sessions without thinking. Now let me tell you about my experience with restaurants there, my booking is half board which includes breakfast and dinner in two restaurants BLU and Epicure, I try both and both of them is delicious, but I found BLU really my taste the type of food on the menu and the buffet is really what I prefer, So normally I had my breakfast on the Epicure and my dinner on BLU, the staff there is really really friendly but the restaurant manager, Layla for BLU and for Epicure I couldn't recognise the name very well but for sure is start with N, they gave you that attention and care like you are the only customer on this island they know our room number the remember our order, greeting us when we arrive and say goodbye when we leave, I don't know how to explain our feelings but they give you the feeling that are very welcomed here, I really liked both restaurants and they are for sure one of the reasons. there are other restaurants there that I couldn't try because I don't like the type food there, even though my great Thakuru convinced me many times to try, and book for me on many of them and told me about the atmosphere and the sunshine, but we found that if you don't enjoy the food it's not worth it especially that these restaurants not included on our package (So sorry for our Thakuru that we ask him to make a lot of changes for our dinner reservation xD) The Island in general is really really beautiful the white sand with clean transparent water, you'll see a variety of fishs 🐟 ، Snails 🐌 , lobsters 🦞, and turtles 🐢, this is in the Indian ocean side, but inside the island you'll see many type of lizards 🦎, and birds 🐦(I'm not sure but I think I saw a bat), so for me I took a lot of videos and photos of a lot of these animals and I enjoyed snorkeling and recording videos.(You don't really have to go deep on the water to see these animals.) at the last day we had to do a pcr test as it's required from our airline and the destination, so the result for me came negative but for my wife is not readable so they assumed it's positive and have to repeat the test, these situations give you an insight how professional is the staff of the resort, the called me early morning and told me to stay on my villa and they provided me with the breakfast in the villa free of charge as they have to make sure we don't have covid before we can have a breakfast on the restaurant, we ask them to give us a float breakfast which is an amazing experience basically you can have your breakfast on your private pool on a floating table. After that the resort manager came by himself and told me about the result and ask me to enjoy on my villa and the restaurant will provide me with the meals, and told me just whatever you need just tell me. After he leaves my Thakuru called me and tells me everything is fine don't stress and enjoy your stay. and they arrange for an express pcr test that the results will came back in 8 hours, and as expected the result is negative and the told us to back to normal and do whatever we want. I really appreciate that from the manager and our Thakuru. to be honest there are a lot of things to talk about, and I really like everything on this amazing island. but I couldn't finish my review without giving a big thanks to my great Thakuru Mughni, what a such great kind person, helping, arranging and making everything as smooth as possible, I told him before I leave and I'll mention it on this review, this trip won't be such a great trip without him, and if make it back for sure one of the things that I want to ask for is to make him my Thakuru again, besides this great assistance, he has an amazing table tennis skills (we played a great match xD). at the end when we were about to leave, as I told you it was really really hard to say goodbye to anyone of Niyama family (where we become part of it at this moment) and we just go into our plane and when we about to fly, all the staff were there waving there hands saying goodbye. Thank you everyone. Thank you Layla, Epicure restaurant's manager, Adriana. Thank you Mughni for making this trip so special I really appreciate everything, you were a great assistant and guide. Looking forward to seeing you all again.

We checked into Four Seasons and were underwhelmed by the facility and vibe. Sterile, perfunctory. They had us signed up for a package and weren't able to accommodate the package when we arrived. So we switched resorts to NIYAMA. Let me tell you about how happy we are about the change, albeit mid-stream. GETTING THERE: While dealing with their off-site reservation team wasn't easy, once we were booked the service kicked in. Everything you expect, and then more. Not only a "receiving" team, but someone to help us at the airport where we were taking the flight "to" Niyama, relatively classy VIP lounge while waiting for our flight, Manta Air personnel were kind, surprisingly courteous and helpful. We returned on the Sea Plane (float plane) and prefer it, but on the way in we took the "domestic" flight from Male to Niyama in a bigger (70 passenger?) Bombardier Q400 just like what Alaska Airlines uses back in the states. Made the mistake of thinking we should pay extra for the 1st class when I don't think they weighed luggage so perhaps that was only to get us sit in the front of the plane (passenger section, not pilots chair) and more importantly: the VIP lounge at Male airport. These planes are workhorses. Landed at the runway with a TON of room to spare, easy landing. Bus ride around the airport island is on a Chinese bus that is very spartan, only slight miss-fire in our trip so far, but whatever. (Sat on the left seat as we drive counter-clockwise around island so I can have bragging rights that I have been 2' farther around the world from our San Diego house than my fiancee. Keep that tip under wraps.) Get off the bus and you separate the wheat from the chaff as the bulk of the people on the bus are going to the cheaper (Riu or something else) resorts. Transfer to a boat for a 10-15 minute ride to Niyama, greeted at reception with your own beach cruiser bike to ride around the island PLUS a Butler (Thakaru pronounced 'Tacoroo'?) who was pretty responsive to our WhatsApp group text to get all our fun organized. Had to call him on the landline a few times to get a response, but usually he was "on it" - the staff at the island was incredibly connected and when we left a jacket somewhere, snorkel gear etc everyone seemed to know and it made its way back to us like a boomerang. We gave our Thakaru a nice wish list (sail, surf, massage, haircut, gym, underwater dance party etc) and he understood the assignment. Was awesome to tell him what we wanted and let him get the details dialed in. We thought we wanted a 1-bedroom overwater pavilion but all they had available last-minute was a 1-bedroom beach villa and we are sooooo happy with what we got. Absolutely pimp villa. (#25, in a swath of villas 24-27(?) that are GREAT. Larger rooms and bathrooms than others. I can't say enough about this villa. INSANE. Just go to instagram and watch what is out there on these places. We paid an extra USD $700/night and it clocked in at $2,200/ night, worth it. Downside: with "Partial" Board, meaning we got a $110 credit ($55/person) for breakfast, $55 each again at dinner, and we paid what was above that as well as lunch. Upcharges for things like drinks, sailing etc are a slight bummer because I don't like to think about money when I am vacationing. Next time I would ask about full fare. As with most things, people make the experience, and Niyama delivers: Fatho (our Thakaru) Pierre (front office-marketing or something), (GM was class act as well) Eric (surf photog) Kevin (surf- found a few corners with a great vibe from the crew even though we were off season), Dimitri & Santi (scuba- 100% great experience for newbies), massage team- don't remember their names because I fell asleep (read: expensive nap) during last 10-15 minutes, down to every waiter, staffer who greeted us and the classy guests who were there, awesome from start to finish. (When you are paying this much per night it is rare to run into idiot guests as success breeds success.) I could go on and on, but pictures are worth 1,000 words and I have already polished off about 4,000. I tipped a few times with activities but didn't get the "need to tip" vibe here. One person mentioned it was the first tip they had gotten in months.. sad. IDEAS: buy a machine to shrink-wrap our luggage before leaving? heater in our private jacuzzi? more sailboats? more included stuff? bigger bedrooms and bathrooms for other suites where it seemed smaller? (we looked at a few and not all suites / villas are created equal) bikes need a little maintenance, perhaps handbrakes for someone not used to footbrakes - but are awesome vibe. IN SUM: while it is hard to improve such an amazing place, as Pierre said it best - there is always room for growth no matter how good we are. He glowed when I told him 4-Seasons had nothing on this place. Niyama has soul, class and is kicking a---. Well done Niyama, COVID be dammed, we will be back. ~Len & Sole
