Terrible service! Poor room quality, looked old and outdated, the air didn't work in the rooms, ants in the rooms, food always cold, not enough signage throughout the resort to get around. Did have great entertainment at night.

Dear RIU TEAM, Tanks for our magical holiday. It was a really great time in a wonderful place with nice people and beautiful nature! Rested from 22.05-05.06.21 in RIU Palace 5*. Excellent design room, total comfort and perfect cleanliness. COVID-19 protection: everyone is wearing gloves&masks, antiseptics (you can get it in any location of the hotel). Buffet: delicious world cuisine. Top Service: the staff is polite and attentive. Special thanks: Maneesha (waiter) is very caring, Pastry Chef for the elegant and tasty desserts. We rarely eat sweets, but here every day:) A la carte: the BBQ Ribs (Steak House) and Lobster (Crystal)- bravo! Bar: great job! Сocktails of any complexity (original alko, from all over the world). Special greetings to the bartender Atoll! Coconut Party (Atoll) – coconut+rum, master classes, BBQ on the beach, DJ, Aqua Fun&Fit. Thank you RIU, we are thrilled! Special thanks to the animation team – they made our holiday! These are incredible girls and guys! Lakaa-won our hearts. Best dancer, singer, coach, volleyball player. How many talents he has, this is truly a rising star! A man has a big heart! Prasad - it cultivates positive energy&weaves the best hats in the world, creates an atmosphere of joy! RIU is very lucky, we hope to see this team next time! Great all activities (snorkeling, diving, jet sky, paddles, yoga). This is the "New Maldives". We recommend RIU to those who like the mix of paradise nature and high level of comfort. Warm Regards, RIU!

Amazing place had a brilliant time from start to finish . The staff are incredible especially at the pool bar all of the guys there were super friendly every day. Our only niggles we’re the lack of sun loungers . It’s a big bug Bare and so easy to resolve just have more loungers than guests ( other resorts do that I’ve been to ) . Luckily we had a beach front room and managed to keep 2 loungers by our patio doors but why do staff come around in the middle of the night and take them away ? Crazy . I think I had 2 days out of 14 with a lounger up by the pool / beach after lunch so having an afternoon snooze was out of the question so not much relaxing for us . Also a bit of Italian music would have been nice in the Italian restaurant as not much ambiance. I was surprised to see an opaque glass screen in our room from the back of the shower . Zero privacy for me and my partner with our 10 yr old daughter glaring in at us in the shower together. But apart from that everything was fantastic. Trip of a lifetime. Take a 4 plug extension cable if you have more than 1 phone or tablet as there are only 2 U.K. sockets in the room and the kettle is plugged into to 1 of those . Thank you Rui it was one of my best vacations Ever

Absolutely fabulous from start to finish . Travelled with Tui as I work for them 35 years + Staff were superb especially Nisantha , Nandana , Ayasika and Chamod . Unable to prebook restaurants on app until you have checked in then managed to book the a la Carter’s twice each in the 9 nights we were resident . Stayed in block 19 which had a great sea view and beautiful sunset , sea calmer too . The food was great considering it ALL has to be imported there’s always a great selection . Duty free is illegal Organised the dolphin trio in advance it was superb and great value . Transfers organised by Riu were great please do not worry about the timings between flights and the queues it’s just nothing like uk airports and they are a lot more chilled . There will be a next time and I will book the seaplane about £150 more pp in each direction and would make for a different experience . Please ask if you fancy return journey on this as if there’s space you can add it on there . Reef was superb I suggest take own mask . Please use reef protective suncream

Just returned from ten days here and absolutely loved it. Rooms - Good, very clean. Daily maid and minibar refill. We opted for a beach access room and were bowled over being able to simply step off the patio onto the beach. We stayed in block 24 (the furthest from the main amenities) and it took a good 10 minutes to get from there to the pool/bar/buffet. We didn’t mind however as it was literally next to the house reef which was quite frankly incredible. I recommend you stay on that side, (sunset side, same side the pool faces) as the other side of island was often quite windy and no good for swimming. We were glad we didn’t bother paying extra for an over water room, there was hardly any sea life by there and we never saw anyone actually using the sea by their rooms. Service - Outstanding. I’ve seen plenty of reviews saying how nice staff are and take them with a pinch of salt but in this case it is true. Every single member of staff greets you, and is unfaltering in their service. Glasses at the meals never stay empty, requests are met instantly and everyone is SO polite and helpful. I felt really privileged to be here and the staff really made the whole thing very special. Food - We used the Dhoni buffet restaurant for every meal. Food was always delicious. As some say it can get a bit samey but what buffet isn’t! All dishes were really tasty and hot. Chips were actually the most hit and miss item there. Desserts were a lot more edible than the kind you generally get in European all inclusives. There is always various fish, curries, Chinese, a roast joint, meats, pizza, salads, chips. Pool/ grounds - immaculate at all times. There are 2 beach towels in your room and a towel hut at the pool to change towel as often as you need. No card needed. Lots of lizards, little birds, big fruit bats and crabs around. No mosquitos. Snorkelling was unreal, just absolutely stunning. I was concerned by posts here saying there’s much better snorkelling in other atolls, and I’m sure there is, but this was incredible for a novice like me. We saw hundreds of types of fish just a few feet offshore. Parrot fish, butterfly fish, even a crown of thorns. Photos do no justice to the beauty that is there. The sea must be very salty as it’s the most buoyant I have ever been, I brought a life jacket as I’m not a confident swimmer but never needed it even in the deep parts. If you want to see rays/sharks try wandering around the bridge to reception and the boat jetty at dusk. We saw a few huge rays, squid, a turtle and lots of black tipped reef sharks here. We went March 2023 and it was busy but never too busy. Loungers available until a decent time of morning, reef never crowded, pool never over full. Only negative we had was the entertainment. There isn’t much on, and the evenings were badly advertised and most nights we ended up going back to the room instead. Sports bar had little atmosphere and not many tables but it is open 24/7 and has pool tables and a library to swap books. Transfers were incredibly well organised, a RIU rep meets you at the airport and packs you off onto the domestic flight to the island, and then it’s onto a boat for the 10/15 minute ride. It’s very smooth and fast that side, with very quick baggage carousel and bus to the boat. Airport duty free VERY expensive, $21 for a Toblerone! Have to be honest I cheated and bought them in Tesco on my way home for £4 to give as gifts! Overall the hotel was the best we’ve been to, simply jaw dropping scenery, incredible staff and lovely food. The transfer was long (from Male it is a 40 minute flight followed by a boat, on the way back this was exhausting as with transfer times and the drive home UK side we were travelling for over 20 hours) and the shop very expensive but I would come back in a heartbeat.

We travelled to the Maldives with Emirates flights to Male Airport then we took the Seaplane which is a fantastic experience to Riu Atoll, Maldives. We were greeted on arrival and was told to check in at the Atoll reception desk. The gentleman walked us across to the Atoll side of the island and left us to find our over water villa. We stayed in the junior over water villa number 3015, the room was clean and the view from the villa was beautiful. The room had an iron and ironing board and a hair dryer was also provided. In the bathroom there was shower gel and a needle and thread box incase of any mishaps. There were some other little bits in the bathroom too for you to use. There was plenty of hangers in the wardrobe and I also noticed a safe for your valuables. In the wardrobe there was also an umbrella and a blanket and also life jackets. The room has UK plug sockets and 2 USB sockets and in the Fridge they provided coca cola, diet coke, Fanta, Sprite, Tonic Water and beer. They also had four spirits in the room - Vodka, Whisky, Rum,Gin. But unfortunately I didn't like any of the spirits provided so I asked if I could get one of the bottles changed for something that I did like and I was told I had to go to reception which I did and was told she would ask the manager. They said No to changing any if the spirits so I ended up spending 30 dollars on a bottle if wine. Most nights I ended up drinking strawberry daquerie, pina colada, peach schnapps, sparkling wine as I couldn't get my usual drink which is Southern Comfort. To be honest I do think if you don't like any of the spirits provided then they should provide an alternative as not everyone likes the spirits they provide. We also tried to book the steak house on the riu app but it kept saying all days were full. So we went to reception and she put us on the list for a reservation. The next evening we found a note put under the doorsaying we had a reservation for 6.30pm but unfortunately we missed our opportunity as we didn't find the note till 6.45pm by which time it was too late, so we ended up using the normal restaurant. The restaurant had a good variety of foods available everything from chops, pizza, curry, sushi, fish, salad bar, fruit, ice cream, deserts and jellies ect. The entertainment on the island was good but could have been better, on certain nights they had a themed evening which included white night, world night, safari night.ect. The beaches were kept clean and tidy.

We were so disappointed. If you are looking for a club 18-30's feel, on a beautiful island then this is the place for you. If you are looking for what a Maldives experience should actually be like, then this is certainly not the place for you. I am not writing this review in order to get a refund, or because I am overly disgruntled at what we paid, I am writing this review to prevent others experiencing what we did. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were, I have had move relaxing, more luxurious holidays in places such a Greece, Cyprus and Mauritius . Please take the time to read all of the detail below so you are clear on what you are booking. I know there is a lot here, but if you are planning on spending your hard earned money, its worth being clear on what you are spending it on. I would suggest to either - *pay a premium for the Maldives and go to a 5* resort for the full experience *change your desired destination to somewhere cheaper like Mauritius *Book this hotel with the clear expectation that it is a beautiful island, you can experience the Maldives, but everything on it is below standard, basic, poor and lacks all luxuries. We actually changed hotels after 7 days (we tried to change after 24 hours but TUI were completely incompetent, hence why we stayed so long) The island itself is beautiful, but the sea has been so disturbed with construction that there is very limited coral and coral is where you will find the fish, shark and ray. There is a small area or coral with plenty or fish, so we spent every day in the sea admiring the sea life. We made the mistake of paying for the snorkelling trip, it was a waste of money, you will see the same fish as you do at the resort. Our first room, was a 20 minute walk from the bar, so if you wanted to relax on the beach next to your villa, the only option was so drink coke, sprite, fanta or beer from your mini fridge, or walk 20 minutes in 30 degree heat. This hotel needs a halfway beach bar. The beach bar had constant queues for a drink, it was busy, loud and dirty. You do not get your own sunbeds, you have to hope there are some free outside of your room in the morning. The rooms are nice, and very clean, but the air systems are very poor. Every day our doors were covered in condensation. There is no 'welcome party' like other Maldives resorts. You are given a glass of orange juice, sat in seats like a students, and are read the 'rules' which include things like 'dont reserve sunbeds' this was a massive red flag to us. No one showed us to our room, one guy walked us to the bar, waved his arm to the left and said 'your room is 6 minutes that way'. It wasn't 6 minutes, it was 15 -20, and we are not slow walkers. Our luggage arrive around 2 hours after we did. If you are a foodie, and appreciate good food, you will find the food to be of very poor standard. Most things are fried and covered in batter. I tried the grilled prawns as they looked lovely and fresh but I was unwell later on that evening. The curry is brilliant, but I didn't go to the Maldives to live on curry for a week. The al a carte restaurants are OK, similar standard to a Prezzo (the Italian option) or a Miller and Carter (for the steak house). The drinks are very watery and inconsistent. The wine is poor, the prosecco is OK. The resort is BUSY, Loud and obnoxious. It feels very chavey. I cannot believe the price we paid for this holiday. We would have rather gone to Tenerife for 1/4 of the price. Las Americas would have been more bearable than this resort. Honestly. I cant remember her name, but the female manager is amazing, she helped us changed to a different resort and authorised a refund for the days we didn't stay at the resort, TUI however, tried to charge us for the days in which we had left the island early, even thought we paid extra to change resorts (a significant amount extra) If you have booked already please bare the following tips in mind; * Contact the hotel before hand, pay $300 pp extra for a sea plane to pick you up from Male and fly your directly to Riu, the free transfer is terrible after an 11 hour flight. * You are not allowed to take wine to your room from the bar, the only way to do purchase wine from the Italian for around $40 per bottle, or order a glass of wine from the bar and take it back to your room. Same with anything alcoholic. *Take plenty of suncream, it is very expensive on the island *Take snorkelling gear, nothing is provided and its expensive to hire *Pack more home comforts than you usually would *Enjoy the weather, beach and sea and make the most of the Butlins atmosphere. *The sax player is amazing, you will really enjoy at least one evening in the bar with him

First visit to the Maldives, arranged via British Airways, flying with Qatar via Doha. Flights were good and Riu arranged transfer from Male airport to the hotel and was very organised. Lovely short boat trip to the island reception and walk to a great ground floor beach room 1602. Hotel pool is reasonably sized, enough to cool off and has a nice pool bar with great staff who are happy to serve you drinks all day. Drinks are varied with a limited range of cocktails but mojitos, pink colada and baileys iced coffee nice. Beach is fantastic and very clean, white cool sand. Never managed to get a bed on the beach but plenty around the pool to choose from so.no issue there. Lots of sea life to sea especially around the house reef, saw lots of colourful small fish, sea cucumbers, small hermit crabs, stings rays, and 1 black tipped shark. Snorkelling is easy but recommend sea shoes as the coral is sharp. Recommend a ground floor room facing West (sunset) as the beach is better and more sheltered from the wind, ground floor rooms walk straight out onto the beach. Fruit bats are a great sight to see flying around the palm trees at dusk, no flies to worry about or other insects just a couple of small timid lizards which you have to try hard to find. Food in the restaurants is varied with lots of great choices, my only gripe is the quality of meat used in the dishes which could be chewy and slightly dry. Italian and steak restaurants are nice but you need to book (use reception as you an never get a reservation on the Tui app). Sunset Dj on beach creates a good vibe, house band were talented but their set list was a little dated with unusual song choices, white night is fun and a good atmosphere. It's a lot bigger resort than I expected and perhaps not what I was expecting, main restaurant can hold a couple of hundred so can feel canteen like. Poop can get busy and quite a few young children/babies around definitely not an adults only resort. If you want solitude or a romantic break for a couple I'd recommend the riu palace or another island. Overall enjoyed the holiday, Good points Beach Room Friendly staff Sea life and fruit bats Djs Bad points Meat used in dishes Drink choice is limited (no flavoured gins or malibu) No English breakfast tea (for Brits who like it)
