We're vacationing with our wife on Veligandu Island from 14.01 to 24.01. 2025, this is our ninth visit to the Maldives! Before that, we went to Nika, Bandos, Angsan Velovara, Kuramati, which is in sight from the Veligandu Hotel. A bit of bad luck with the weather, the rains change to the sun, but the main thing is the strong wind that causes the wave, which somewhat reduces visibility and vision underwater. I want to mention the excellent service in our hotel, the excellent quality of the rooms (the hotel has just been renovated) very competently selected staff. Cleaning rooms twice a day and replenishing the mini bar, all inclusive, with a range of finest wines, France, Italy, Spain, South Africa and New Zealand, as well as strong alcohol! Upon arrival we were in for a pleasant surprise, a Russian-speaking hotel employee Tatiana, who literally raised our holiday to an unreachable height! We lost our room key while walking late last night, texted her, and within two minutes the problem was solved. The wife attends daily Baltic massages, and without a pass, says they are of a high standard! I'm lucky to learn to play Padel with coach Michele, even though I've only played big tennis before and haven't picked up a racket in 20 years. The island has a beautiful home reef where there are turtles (even excursions from other islands are brought here. But the main advantage of this hotel in my opinion is the beautiful cuisine, with such rich variety and range of dishes that just scatter your eyes, fruits are presented in such a rich range that listing it will tire of writing your hand, and all this is instantly replenished, about 15-20 items! Choices of chores, from cucumber, beetroot, to exotic. I particularly like the huge seafood dish, squid, tuna, and white fish it's constant for lunch and dinner, shrimp and seafood barbecues often. It's all grilled in your presence at the desired frying level. Constantly a huge range of excellent, freshest French and Swiss cheeses, daily in a range of lamb and beef. Sushi lovers will also be pleased, the range of them is also impressive! I honestly don't understand how the chef of Naeem cuisine managed to organize this gourmet paradise to eat deliciously. Thank him very much and thank him very much! Even despite the vagaries of nature, eating is waiting like a holiday!!! Dear gourmets of delicious food if you're looking for heaven, here you come! This is the level I've never seen before! I want to express my great gratitude to the hotel staff for a wonderful and unforgettable holiday! We'll make sure we plan our next trip here! With respect, the family of Kravchenko Igor and Oksana, Moscow.

This resort was amazing 10/10.

I am well-travelled and this was honestly the most incredible resort and amazing value for money.

We travelled here in July 2022 and were lucky to have great weather in the off-season. We chose an all-inclusive food package which I would highly recommend, this included a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner.

We stayed in an overwater bungalow and were offered to swap to the Jacuzzi overwater bungalow halfway through so we got to try both sides of the reef. The Jacuzzi side offers the best spots to snorkel with more coral and sealife (We swam with a turtle out the back of our bungalow for 30 minutes and it was amazing). But the other side of the reef has clear sand where you can relax and swim without coral.

Snorkeling: Overall the snorkeling on this reef was the most amazing I have ever seen. It is full of reef sharks, fish, sting rays and if you are lucky turtles. The snorkeling trips were good but this reef has everything you need.

The buffet each meal was 10/10 had a variety of options including a few fresh cook stations. The highlight was the fresh caught fish getting barbequed in front of you.

I would critique this island if I could, we stayed for 9 nights and I could have continued on. This place is magic and I couldn't recommend it enough!

The new beach villa was just outstanding. Loved the outside bathroom and the space and just walking out onto our own beach space and into the sea. The food choice and quality was excellent at the buffet restaurant and Arsham was excellent as our regular waiter but all the staff were friendly and so helpful and happy. The snorkelling trip was amazing and loved how we were given quality towels and ice cold water after our experience. The dive guys were great, helpful and felt very safe with them. The gardener was so lovely and such a happy guy. All the toiletries were great quality and the selection of teas and coffee in the room was very welcome. Our cleaner was so good, kept our villa spotless and made sure our supplies were replaced promptly.

Jaadhee was excellent, not interfering but quickly responsive when needed, just perfect.

Arsham was our regular waiter who was very attentive and helpful.

My spa treatments from Milia and Suri were excellent.

However, all the staff we dealt with were so friendly, and so helpful and enthusiastic, such a pleasure!

Veligandu was the perfect honeymoon destination and the most stunning accommodation we’ve ever stayed at.
After a busy wedding period, we were so excited for our stay at Veligandu, and it exceeded all our expectations. We stayed in an overwater sunset pool villa with breathtaking views of the turquoise lagoon and the striking transition to the deeper ocean. Snorkelling straight off our balcony was unforgettable - we spotted sea turtles, reef sharks, and spotted eagle rays, making it some of the best snorkelling we’ve ever done. It felt so private, peaceful, and magical.
We opted for the half-board package, which worked perfectly for us. Dhonveli Restaurant offered the most luxurious buffet we’ve ever experienced, with a different theme each day. As vegetarians, we were amazed by how well they catered for us. The variety and quality of the food were outstanding, and we particularly appreciated the dedicated Maldivian corner featuring rice, honi roshi, and dhal - perfect for days when we craved something simpler. The half-board option was ideal, as we always left breakfast and dinner so satisfied that we never needed lunch!
The accommodation prices were relatively reasonable, especially considering the luxurious experience. Veligandu was much more competitively priced than some other resorts we researched. That said, some in-house costs (e.g., minibars, snacks, boutique items) felt a bit overpriced, so if you’re likely to indulge in those, the all-inclusive package may be a better fit.
While the facilities and location were beyond beautiful, what truly made our stay extraordinary was the staff. Their warm smiles and genuine kindness made us feel so welcome. Special thanks to Shaalee, our attentive lifestyle host who flawlessly organised our schedule, and Nawal, who kept our villa immaculate and surprised us with adorable towel art. At Rahul Bar, Gayashan made some of the best cocktails we’ve ever had and always greeted us with warmth at happy hour. The fantastic team at Dhonveli Restaurant, including Mansoor, Deepa, and Sajini, learned our preferences so quickly, making every meal feel personal and special. The chefs at the action stations were mesmerising to watch and incredibly friendly - special mentions to Dinuka and Nilantha, who crafted dishes that were both delicious and memorable.
Veligandu is truly a slice of paradise, made unforgettable by its exceptional team. Thank you for giving us the most perfect honeymoon. We can’t wait to return one day!

We had an amazing stay at one of the newly built ocean pool water villas which we highly recommend. Our wonderful lifestyle host was Tania who went above and beyond to ensure our stay became truly special and memorable from the first to the last minute. In addition to thinking ahead and make it happen before we could even ask, she also added so many personal surprises that made us feel like at home and in paradise at the same time. We also recommend to book the all inclusive package in order to dine in all 3 stunning restaurants and at the bar - all offering absolutely delicious food, beautiful settings and very friendly staff that helped us feel comfortable. Our favorite restaurant is Madivaru due to Hadi, an exceptional chef with caring personality and attention to detail and service, taking extremely good care of everything. Madivaru offers a daily changing soup/dish/pasta/dessert in addition to the full menu which is great if you appreciate variations.
The house reef is phantastic for snorkeling, best in front of the old ocean villas as there the reef is untouched there by the recent building activities. In addition to plenty of colorful reef fish, we saw turtles, moray eels, octopus, cuttlefish, eagle rays, and also larger predators passing by directly at the edge of the reef as well as dolphins (several times during our stay).
We also had 4 spa treatments that we truly enjoyed.
For Christmas the whole staff when above and beyond to make it a very special experience. We will be excited to come back.

Our stay at Veligandu is absolutely amazing. The island is easily accessible by seaplane from Malé within a short flight and truly feels like a dream island. The three restaurants (one buffet, two à la carte) and the two bars offer top-quality food and drinks, complemented by exceptionally friendly staff.

There’s no shortage of leisure activities, including fitness, padel tennis, pickleball, excursions, table tennis, billiards, water sports, and spa treatments — ensuring plenty of variety and entertainment. Almost everything can be conveniently booked via the hotel’s user-friendly app.

Depending on the location of your villa, the walking distances might be a bit longer, but the hotel staff is always available to provide transportation via golf carts upon request. The newly renovated pool villas also stand out for their exceptional quality and comfort.

A special highlight is the personal guest host (in our case, Naaif), who is always reachable via WhatsApp and provides outstanding service. Need different gym opening hours? No problem — the next day, they were adjusted just for me. A different pillow? Medication for seasickness? Everything was handled promptly and with incredible efficiency. The room service (Ahmed) was also excellent, ensuring a perfect stay.

A great tip is to upgrade to the all-inclusive package, which covers many paid activities, drinks, and access to the à la carte restaurants at no extra cost.

Veligandu - hopefully not our last time here!

We have had to wait until retirement for this holiday of a lifetime and it did not disappoint in any way. We have stayed in many hotels/resorts over the years but I have never before wanted to cry on leaving.

As soon as we left the airport at Male we were welcomed by a resort representative who took our luggage and escorted us to the air conditioned mini bus which took us to the sea plane lounge. Here we were given a much appreciated cold flannel and had there been time there were drinks available but within minutes we were on the sea plane and off to Veligandu. I was apprehensive about the plane but the 15 minute flight was great.

On arrival we were warmly welcomed yet again and given a cold drink, checked in and escorted to our over water villa by our island host. Our island host was our contact throughout our stay and we were able to contact him on WhatsApp with any requests or issues and he sent us any information that we needed, which worked very well. The villa was lovely and spotlessly clean. The huge bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion which smelt lovely. The huge bed was vey comfy, the fridge had rose and white wine with beer and soft drinks. The peanuts and chocolate were a nice touch too. There was also red wine and a coffee maker and kettle with a vast array of tea bags and coffee pods. Watching the fish swimming around from the deck with the lapping of the waves was amazing. There was a jacuzzi that we only used a couple of times mainly because the best time to use it was at night to gaze at the amazing stars but having showered for dinner we couldn’t be bothered, but nice to have the option.

The food in the restaurant was fantastic every meal and everyday, we ate in the al a carte twice, once on the beach and once inside as it was raining but both were lovely experiences. This seems a brief review of the food but it could not have been any better, loads of choice and superb quality.

The snorkelling was great too and we saw a turtle most days and several sharks, rays and also lots of fish. We went on a sunset dolphin cruise and saw dolphins playing in the sea which made up for the cloudy sunset that evening. There were at most 8 of us guests on the spotless boat which was a joy after having been on so many over crowded boat trips in the past.

The beach is beautiful, the sand soft, cool and kept so clean. The pool again was so clean, there were towels provided and the bar staff would bring drinks to your sun bed.

The two bars provided a large choice of drinks and cocktails in comfortable surroundings with a house band playing most nights somewhere on the island.

Last but not least are the staff. Everyone from the gardeners to the head chef were friendly and welcoming always smiling and checking that you were being looked after. They all work so hard to ensure that you enjoy your holiday and all seem genuinely happy working on Veligandu.

Our departure was as well organised as everything else and as we flew off we very much hoped that we will be able to return when the island reopens after its refurbishment. This really was the best holiday ever.

We leave the resort this morning with a feeling of loss already. What a place!
We have been astounded by the beauty of this island. It is kept so beautifully, the grounds are very well maintained, as is the sand, with staff raking morning and night to maintain the standard. We stayed in a sunset water villa, which was such a treat. I've cherished being able to sit on the decking and watch marine life for hours on end.
Cleaning is thorough and twice per day, with fresh towels each time if you wish. Bedding is changed every other day so you always get into a clean, fresh bed.
The minibar is plentiful, with liberty, beers soft drinks and water replenished daily, along with snacks and a daily Snickers bar!
Food? Best I've had in any holiday resort. Plenty of choice at every meal, with fresh, vibrant ingredients and if you love curries this is the place for you! Champagne breakfasts twice weekly, with everything you would expect from a 5 star kitchen. The service is very good, with a big shout out to Hassan, what a lovely, professional man, with lots of local knowledge.
Madivaru, the a la carte restaurant was excellent, with delicious options and amazing service. The 24 hour lamb is something else!
The entertainment is a bit hit and miss, but it didn't affect us, we dipped in and out as we pleased. Cocktails were good, and the wine list is excellent.
Our guide Adelaida was informative and efficient and kept us up to date with the news and island life.
We felt very well looked after by everyone and the resort has a very exclusive feel to it. Only 90 rooms, but 70 staff, so someone was always at hand when you required them.
Veligandu will close in early summer for around 18 months, for renovations. I'd love to return to see the improvements, but genuinely, it's difficult to improve on this!!
Thanks for an amazing stay!

What a week! My husband and I stayed at Veligandu 10 years ago on our honeymoon and we always agreed we would go back some day. Well for our 10 year wedding anniversary - we did. It was like going to a totally new resort. The renovations are spectacular. We arrived on November 24th - the second day of their reopening, the room still smelled of new paint and it was glorious. We stayed in a overwater pool bungalow and it was lovely. The new rooms are super modern, spacious and filled with light. The added bonus of our own private infinity pool over the water, plus direct access to the sea was an absolute treat.

Even the new airport lounge that CC provides upon arrival to Male - in wait of your sea plane, was fantastic. The lounge services was amazing.

Upon arrival, we were met by our lifestyle host - Jason - he was a delight. After our super quick check in, we were whisked away to our room, which was almost at the very end of the new overwater bungalow dock, making it nice a private (no foot traffic walking past). We were greeted with a bottle of champagne and some tasty treats while getting a tour of the room.

The resort as whole was beautifully updated with some new restaurants and a beautiful new gym along with pickle ball courts and paddle all courts.

The island and beaches were as spectacular we remembered, but with a new modern facelift to the rooms and facilities.

Service was amazing - from Jason, to all of the wait staff in the restaurants and at the bar.

Special shout out to Mansour in the buffet restaurant - we sat in his section for every meal and he was the best - he remembered all of our drink orders before we even placed them and always went out of his way to make sure we were well attended too.

So many great team members on hand to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.

We didn't use many of the water sports equipment as it was quite windy while we were there - but we did do a 3 hour jet ski tour and it was awesome - we saw turtles and so many different sting rays and mantas.

I would highly recommend The Veligandu to anyone looking to go the Maldives. Book one of the new overwater bungalows with infinity pool, you won't be disappointed.

Our third stay on Veligandu had some downsides. After the big announcement of the reopening, of course, our expectations and the anticipation were high. We have a beach villa on the sunset side. The price difference to the new water villas at the time of our booking was only 300 euros for 2 weeks. However, the standard difference was incredible. Our villa had just got some new wall paint. That's all. In the summer of 2023, the three of us paid less for the same villa with All In than the two of us now with half board. We did not think that not all villas have been renovated and therefore we do not understand the huge price increase for the old villas. The fittings in the bathroom have rusted, there was mould in the shower and there was hair and stains on the mattress a day after the opening (see photos). We complained about it and we were allowed to move the next day. Again, the shower fittings were rotten and there was some mold on the shower wall. We didn't look at the mattress anymore. Except for the information that they had not managed to improve all the villas, there was no compensation offer...What made me very sad was the fact that the construction debris was dumped into the sea. Tile shards, mirror shards and even sewer pipes were washed up on the beach again and again. The whole former pool is in the sea. The smaller parts were repeatedly swept up by the staff and dug into the sand. The larger parts remained (see photos). The new villas are very modern and beautiful but look like foreign objects there. The island has lost its flair and charm.POSITIVE changes also exist: The chef Cristian Marino has made the already good cuisine even better. The food is great. Good quality, nicely presented. The dishes are a treat for the palate and eye and leave nothing to be desired. Creative and innovatively made with passion.

I personally would say you would not need a jacket or cardigan in the evening….for a February trip . There is shampoo and conditioner in the villas .

Hi We tipped, using euros. They don't really mind what currency, they are very thankful. US dollars is the currency used in the gift shop, so they are definitely acceptable.

What drinks and snacks are in the AI minibar and how often are they refilled?
Answer from Ana Borges
Lisbon District, Portugal1 contribution
The drinks are very varied, from natural fruit juices, ice tea, to cocktails with alcohol. You can check the menu on the hotel's website. We went with the AI Plus regime and were able to order the drinks we wanted as often as we wanted. As for the snacks you can also check on the hotel's website, but there is also a lot of variety. The employees make an effort to satisfy and please every request of the guest. All drinks and food are of excellent quality!
