Positives... + thick plush bath towels + huge room + not too far from town + allowed us to cancel for one of our nights, so we could stay at a hotel instead (see below) Negatives... - we selected this B&B specifically because their breakfasts are supposedly amazing, and booked it only a day before our arrival only to find out, upon check in, that they WEREN’T serving their fabulous breakfast in light of the Corona Virus situation! We understand , but Felt like they could have reached out to us to give us an option to change our plans. They gave us a voucher to eat breakfast at a town cafe instead. - showed us hot tub and sauna area, only to inform us the hot tub was no longer functional. (This was what my husband was so excited about). Again, be transparent and let guests know ahead of time. - room updated in late 80’s or early 90s— sans the charm of other period B&Bs in this charming area (we’ve stayed at two others)…
The hosts were so easy to communicate from the very beginning. Check in was quick and easy, the room was comfortable & cozy, and breakfast in the grotto was DELICIOUS. Abe's is conveniently located--just a short walk to downtown Galena. The room had everything we needed and more; we loved every minute of our stay. This was our first trip to Galena, and we loved it--largely in part to our excellent hosts! Will definitely be returning to Abe's in the future.
We love going to Galena. It’s truly our home away from home. We absolutely loved Abe’s Guest House. Our innkeepers are a delight with amazing historical overview of the area and the guest house. For those that are beer drinkers, this place is for you. A former microbrewery in the 1800s. The best part of our stay was breakfast in the grotto with candles all around us.
If you are looking for an extremely clean and unique place to stay in Galena, Abe's Spring Street Guest House is it! Charles and Sandy were wonderful hosts! Our breakfasts were delicious. Emma, the resident dog even put on a little show for us! Galena is full of history, great food, good people, and all kinds of shops and entertainment. Love our yearly trips to this wonderful little town!
My husband and I and our friends booked two rooms at Abe’s guest house for a weekend get away. The rooms were so spacious and cozy, with jetted tubs, cute gas fireplace, many books, and a little kitchen. They even have a sauna, though the hot tub is currently not working. We loved every minute of it, and it’s so close to downtown Galena. We also loved the owners, Charlie and Sandy. They made us feel very welcome and threw an amazing and delicious breakfast in the morning. I don’t usually like French toast but couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend!
