We picked Galena for the 4th of July weekend on a whim. We randomly selected the Farmers Guest House and gave them a call to see if they had any availability for the weekend. We spoke to Elaine who is probably the nicest most helpful person I’ve ever spoken on the phone with. She explained what they had available and how things were operating a bit differently due to COVID (ie. Breakfast delivery, extra cleaning measures, etc). We were so excited to arrive that we got here a few hours early to just take a look around. Mark greeted us and chatted and told us that when we officially check-in we’d be given a tour of the place. We went off to ride bikes to the vineyard right outside of town and came back around 4 pm to check-in. We met Luke and Elaine in person and she gave us a tour while Luke brought our bags up to the front door of our room. The FGH is simply beautiful and very well maintained. The room was so quaint and clean and we had everything we needed in there. By far the best part of our stay was BREAKFAST! Holy cow, I have never eaten anything so delicious. Each day you get breakfast delivered and it’s something different. Day 1 we got - greek yogurt with homemade granola, fruit, juice, champagne, honey, and cream cheese stuffed french toast, bacon, and the most amazing hash brown bites with rosemary and cheddar in them. It blew our minds. I would do the 2.5-hour drive from Chicago just to eat breakfast there again. I also loved that each meal had local ingredients or highlights. The other great thing about FGH is the wine delivery every night - this wine time is typically held in a common room but due to COVID it was delivered which was fine with us - we took our wine out to the back garden and sat and enjoyed the beautiful flowers and bunnies. All in all I would love to go back to Farmers Guest House - we’re thinking in the fall :) and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a little R&R, you will be taken care of from the second you pick up the phone to call!

My wife and I haven't been to Galena in nearly 18 years. We decided to do an overnight getaway to Galena to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. We were looking for a special place to stay and I came across the Farmers Guest House during my search. It is a wonderful place. Within walking distance of the city and its restaurants and boutique shops. We greatly enjoyed our stay. The staff is extremely welcoming, the rooms are spotless and the breakfast is phenomenal. We are definitely planning another visit later in the year and we highly recommend this gem of a B&B.

My wife and I spent a few days to enjoy a babymoon before our third child was born. I began this B&B experience with no real expectations, as I had never stayed at a B&B before. Mark, Luke, and Elaine immediately made us feel welcome — clear explanations about the property, food, wine/cheese hour and immediately took our bags up. They were genuinely happy to have us there. Given that this was the off season, the first night we were lucky enough to be the only guests, so we got to have a nice chat with the three of them. They are all incredibly personable and make the wine/cheese hour very enjoyable. As for the property itself, the building is beautiful with a very interesting history. Lots of cozy communal space on the main floor, and we felt like we had enough privacy in our room. The only downside is that parking is across the busy street. In addition, the property is in easy walking distance of the shopping and entertainment of Galena. Food wise, we thoroughly enjoyed breakfast each morning. The menu changed every day, and it was obvious that the proprietors put thought and care into what they were making. Highly recommend for those looking for a good B&B experience. Mark, Luke, and Elaine put immense pride in their innkeeper roles and it was the highlight of our Galena trip.

The owners of this bed and breakfast had a wonderful property, were great company, and provided a fantastic eating experience. They made us feel like they were privileged to have such wonderful guests as us. Such a nice feeling. Once well-fed and well-coffied, we wandered a charming town and danced at Turner Hall.

Room for quilting was set up with everything we needed. Staff helped carry our supplies inside. Guest rooms were wonderful—each had its own bathroom. Bedding was top notch. Food was excellent. Wine was served in early evening. Hosts were friendly & helpful. I would recommend this guest house. We reserved our date for 2020.
