My girlfriend and I checked into LeFevre inn, and were impressed at first by the truly breathtaking views and the friendly staff. While it is a bit of a stretch to call it a "resort"-- there is literally nothing there but the rooms to stay in, a small pond, and two paddleboats, still, the grounds were beautiful and we were excited to see the room. When we went inside our room, we were met with a musty odor, and noticed that the furniture was rather lumpy and outdated. There was a very old sofa and mattress and lots of burn marks in the rug. However, all of this would have been acceptable had in not been for the 20 or so stink bugs we quickly realized were crawling over the walls and carpet, which was, unfortunately, the same gray color as the bugs, We spend our first 30 minutes-- and the rest of our two days-- battling the stink bugs. It was gross. The were even in my girfriend's slippers in the morning. We kept all of our clothes zipped in our bags, but no matter how many stink bugs we flushed, there were always more. Needless to say, we spend most of our time OUT of the room, but our time in it was stressful and gross. We were told when we arrived that they were short staffed and no housekeeping was available. And actually, the room was in fact clean. But it is wrong to rent out rooms that are crawling with bugs, even if they are harmless stink bugs. We paid well over $200 a night for a 2 night stay. NEVER again. They need to take care of this problem! We will NOT be returning.…
A great place with room to roam, beautiful rooms and a great staff. You can stay in a king or queen suite for 2 or in a chalet like cabin for 2 or 4. Nice quiet area with a pond and pool. Great for country walks. A 10 minute drive to Galena, Illinois where there are many shops, restaurants and seasonal activities. This was our 6th stay at LeFevre.
Loved this place! I'm really picky about hotels. LeFevre had the most beautiful view of anyplace I've ever been. We had a king room, which are corner rooms with great views, a comfortable bed with a thick soft comforter, and a fireplace, refrigerator and coffee. The grounds are amazing! If you like seeing rolling hills and farms and stars at night, you can't beat this. Waking up to hear the baby calves mooing across the road was charming. Great place for couples who want peace and quiet, and also for families - basketball hoop, volleyball net, firepit. I'm definitely coming back again.
The staff was very accommodating, allowing us to make a last minute room change when we saw the darling cottages and realized that’s where we wanted to stay. Since we were planning to stay 3 nights, this was the perfect “room” for us. You can sit on the front porch and take in the gorgeous sunsets. There is a large table for meals and plenty of room to lounge by the fireplace. The bathroom is updated and roomy. The soaking tub is Hugh. We did not use it but it looked inviting. You are 5 minutes from Main Street, Galena, but a world away in tranquility. We would love to come back here with our kids and grandkids.
Loved the view and quiet setting. Very peaceful and relaxing. Room was clean and comfy. Only complaints I have was more lighting needed outside for evening ,especially the steps by the firepit. It was pitch black and we had to use our phones to see the steps. Also, a walkway from the resort to the pavillion would be great so you dont have to walk on wet grass in the morning or at night. The room, though clean, had a very musky pine scent. So strong I was not able to sleep at all that night. It burned in my nose and in my throat. That reason alone is why I would not stay again. Otherwise it was a great place and so close to Main street for shopping and dining. Staff was helpful and friendly but I cannot get passed that strong smell in the room.
