Detailed Reviews
This was our second stay at the Lamberson Guest House with Michelle, Murry and Jack. We were looking for a rest and relaxation weekend. I could not have been more excited to see the Winter Escape Deal (3 nights for the cost of 2) - done!! Since we were traveling in January it is always good to know that if the weather gets bad, Michelle has her Old Man Winter guarantee, so that you do not have to travel in bad weather just to get there and not be out any money. We booked the Elizabeth Suite to enjoy the view of the town blanketed in snow since the B&B sits on the top of the hill and overlooks the downtown - it has to be the best view in town! (Only a little snow, but still a beautiful view) Michelle always greets you with a smile on her face and a willingness to accomodate any requests or offer recommendations for where to eat or things to do. The house and rooms are impeccably clean and the beds are so comfy you almost won't want to get out of bed in the morning, but you definitely do not want to miss the 3 course breakfast that Michelle serves. They are out of this world tasty, served with mimosas, coffee, tea, or juice. You will not be hungry for a long while after breakfast. Had a wonderful time working on the puzzles that Michelle has in the parlor, watching a movie from the large selection of movies that Michelle has available (alphabetized so that they were easy to find) and a quick trip to the main street for browsing the shops. We had a wonderful time and another perfect stay. Thank you Michelle for making each of our stays exactly what we wanted from each of them.

Whoaaa!!! Thank you so much Donna! I woke to your amazing review this morning and it reminds me of why I do what I do. I already know this is going to be a great day. Just having you return means so much to me. I am grateful for every visit and truly thankful when folks return and are just as excited and happy as they were the first time. I know how important it is to be able to get away from everything and relax. Everyone needs pampering, and I'm your girl! Thank you for having taken the time to write. I'm hoping the two of you have a very peaceful winter.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at the Lamberson House at the end of Sept. We were warmly greeted by Resa, the innkeeper, who gave us a lovely mini tour of the common areas of the inn. Then, Resa showed us to our room which was exceptionally clean and inviting. The bed is so comfortable, and the sheets are like silk. I wish that I could have taken the fluffy, comfy pillows home with me. The bathroom was roomy, and the shower was so nice with 2 shower heads.
The breakfasts in the morning were 5 star. We were treated to a candle lit breakfast complete with lovely linens and beautiful table settings. Resa makes the most wonderful food. I have an issue with dairy products, and Resa was able to execute some delicious meals to accommodate my dietary needs. Thank you Resa for your special care!
I certainly don’t want to forget Chris who is the other half of this wonderful husband and wife team. He is the perfect compliment to Resa, and they seem to work together effortlessly.
The 4:00 “tea” time includes a beverage of your choice and individually wrapped hors d’oeuvres plates for each guest. There’s water and soft drinks in the fridge and homemade cookies (wrapped) which are always available.
There are 2 rooms for relaxing which are light and comfortable.
Precautions have been taken to insure that each guest is safe with sanitizing gel stationed at various areas of inn.
The inn has up to date amenities, but has maintained its’ historic charm. It is impeccably clean and comfortable.
Resa and Chris are the perfect innkeepers. I must mention Lucy, their white lab. She’s such a sweetheart. Thank you, Chris, for bringing her out to have our picture taken with her and to wish us a safe trip.
We felt at home in your lovely inn. It was like visiting old friends.
Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.
We will see you in the Spring,
Bud and Cyndie

Cydnie & Bud, You are the sweetest! We are humbled by your wonderful review and thank you for your kind words. Your comfort is always our priority and we are honored that you noticed the special details. It's important that you felt safe and we'll continue to take all of the precautions to protect our guests. It was fun to create meals that worked well to accommodate your needs. Some of these recipes have now become our guest favorites! Both of you have stayed in several B & Bs across the country and it's so interesting to hear about your experiences. We learned things from you that we can do in our home to make the guest experience more enjoyable. Please continue to share these with us when you come across them during your travels. Lucy was honored to be in your pictures and loved all of the special attention that you gave to her. You could tell by her happy smile that she was with her special friends. We appreciate both of you and look forward to your return in the spring! Take Care, Resa & Chris Larson

We stayed at the Lamberson Guest House to get away from the city during Covid for the weekend. Upon checking in, we were able to park behind the house to avoid the steps. We then received a tour of the house with our innkeepers in masks and our room was spotless. The house had nice amenities including soda/water, extensive DVD shelf with new movies as well as a coffee bar with fresh baked cookies that were individually wrapped. We stayed in the Maud suite which was large and filled with light. The room was incredibly clean with a nice bathroom. There were also very nice outdoor spaces with a front porch with rocking chairs and a large back patio with heat lamps where we chatted with the other guests. On the outdoor patio, there's a large table where we would eat our takeout dinners.
Happy hour was flexible every day ~4pm and they pre-portion your room's drinks and cheese so you can sit outside with the other guests on the beautiful patio or take to your room. It was nice to not have to plan our day rigidly around a set happy hour time.
Breakfast was of course phenomenal! Extra tables were set up throughout the first floor so that we could social distance and you could also take your breakfast outside. 3 courses were served with coffee, juice, tea, or mimosas.
Our innkeepers Chris and Resa (and their sweet yellow lab, Lucy) just started running the guest house from the previous owner and they are completely amazing! We spent a lot of time chatting with them on the patio and had such a fun time. They were always available if we needed anything. Even with Covid, we felt very safe getting to know our other guests in the outdoor spaces and liked that the house is small with only 4 rooms. We will definitely come back in the future. I can't imagine staying anywhere else!
It is worthy to note that there are a LOT of steps to get to main street (common for all the B&Bs around the area) but you are able to drive down the hill and park.

Brooke, Thank you so much for sharing your kind review! You and Theo took a chance not knowing what a stay at B & Bs would be like and it's great to hear that you cannot imagine staying anywhere else. We were so blessed to have both of you here and all of our guests loved our conversations with you in the courtyard. Your break from the city was timed perfectly with such great weather (well, minus the cancelled boat ride on Sunday) We take great measures to keep our guests safe by sanitizing, masking, safe food preparation, outdoor seating and social distancing. It was a good plan for both of you to order take-out and relax at the table in the courtyard next to the water fountain. Lucy could not get enough of you two and thank goodness for the lint brush;-) We hope Lily wasn't too upset when you got home with Lucy scent. We were thrilled that you mastered the steps but always knew that driving was an option. We take great pride in being at the top of some of the most beautiful views and the stairs. Cardio is good for the heart and soul. Thanks again for staying with us and we look forward to your next visit! Take Care! Resa & Chris Larson

Our third time at the Lamberson B+B, and each time our stay gets better and better. Chris and Resa are new owners this year, and they really put effort into making you comfortable. We stayed in the Elizabeth suite, very comfortable 2 rooms with large pocket doors between (and they work flawlessly). Large flat panel tv, and a nice couch. Bathroom is nicely tiled with a rain shower head and an additional hand held shower if desired.
Breakfast is served in the dining room or parlor depending on number of guests staying (adequately spread out). A 3 course breakfast each morning with a fresh sweet, fruit course and a main course. Also plenty of flavorful coffee or teas.
Late afternoon wine and varied snacks were offered on the patio (weather permitting) .
They were very helpful with dining recommendations, from white tablecloth dining (Log Cabin) to casual (Dirty Gurts).
They also offer a large selections of DVD movies should the weather be an issue.
Highly recommended.

Thank you Rosemary and Hank for your wonderful review! We had the best time getting to know both of you and hearing about your love and appreciation of staying at B&B's across the country. It's truly an honor that you continue to stay with us and enjoy the Elizabeth suite. The views over Galena are some of the best in the home! We were thrilled to hear that Rosemary's favorite breakfast is Eggs Benedict as she was eating them that morning for breakfast. We love it when that happens :-) Both of you were a joy to cook for and had a great appreciation for a variety of foods. We look forward to more conversations on the patio with both of you. Lucy wanted us to tell you that she loved all of your attention and would like you to return too! All the Best, Resa & Chris Larson

Lamberson Guest House is a beautiful large mansion on a hill overlooking downtown Galena and the valley beyond. The home is historic, but all electrical & plumbing has been highly updated. Each room is beautiful with lovely “high end” linen, toiletries & each room has a private beautiful bathroom.
Upon arriving the hosts, Chris & Resa have a cheese/charcuterie plate prepared just for you with your choice of wine. This can be enjoyed in the garden complete with a fountain or if cold in the parlor complete with beautiful antiques.
Breakfast is a 5 star feast including a variety of courses such as an appetizer, a beautiful and artistic fruit plate and on the day that we were there, stuffed French toast prepared by chef Resa. Chris will pour as much coffee as you desire, along with water, juice and even Mimosas, if you wish.
The entire experience was first class and the hosts are warm lovely people.

This was our first trip to Galena, IL. Choosing Lamberson Guest House for our accommodations was such a fortunate choice on our part!! Owners, Resa and Chris, are the ultimate in hospitality!
The inn is located in the central historic area of Galena. The quaint downtown is within walking distance. There are steep inclines in the area so Chris was quick to offer rides.
The bedrooms are lovely with modern bathrooms, luxury toiletries, fluffy towels, bathrobes and high end linens.
Each day began with a pretty and delicious breakfast. Late afternoon, wine and charcuterie were offered in the comfortable, shaded garden.
Our stay was perfection and I am sure we will visit again!

We recently stayed at Lamberson House with a group of friends. It was such a fun and relaxing weekend. Chris and Resa were unbelievably accommodating and made everyone feel so welcome. We stayed in "Maud" room, it was absolutely beautiful, very clean and the bed was comfortable with silky smooth sheets. Chris and Resa served us a delicious breakfast both mornings, the presentation was amazing. (For real how they served the fruit made me feel like we were in a castle) We mostly enjoyed sitting on the side patio, enjoying cocktails and conversation with amazing friends. The location is perfect, we were able to walk everywhere. Hands down this is a top notch B & B, going to be hard to beat this one!! Oh, and the homemade brownie on out pillows was a special treat.

My wife and I stayed at here on a quite January weekend, and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is situated high atop the hill overlooking Main Street Galena, and the view is spectacular. The house is largely original from when it was built in the 1800’s, and it is beautifully decorated. The rooms are cozy - ours had the softest sheets ever, a fireplace, and a large bathroom. The food was fantastic - a savory and a sweet 3 course breakfast that was homemade and delicious. There is wine and cheese every day at four, and coffee always available. Michelle is the best part - she is a wonderful host! Her recommendations were spot on, and she made our stay relaxing and very pleasant.
We’ll definitely be back, and highly recommend you visit!!

The Lamberson Guest House was the perfect getaway. The house is filled with history and modern comforts, the breakfast is delicious, the location is close to downtown and the bedrooms with your own bathroom made the stay comfortable and private.
The hosts Resa and Chris were so warm and welcoming it made you feel like you were coming home. The extra touches like the make up towel in the bathroom and happy hour treats made us want to stay forever. A must stay in Galena.

My husband and I recently stayed at Lamberson Guest House for our anniversary and it was a fantastic place located in the heart of Galena. The beautiful historical inn offered a comfortable get away. Michelle is a gracious and lovely host with superb attention to details. Her 3-course breakfasts were amazing and the afternoon wine and cheese reception on the large patio was a fun time to relax and get to know other people. The furry family, Murray and Jack stole our hearts.
We stayed in the Elizabeth suite with views of downtown, the river and city parks. The accommodations were stunning with a 3 room suite that offered historical elements with modern amenities. It’s hard to put into words how comfortable a room, bed and linens can be until you‘ve experienced these. Without a doubt our next stay in Galena will be at Lamberson!

Thank you for checking availability at Lamberson Guest House. Unfortunately we have no vacancies on Oct 17. I forwarded your message to some of the B&Bs in this area and will let you know if they have availability. We would love to host you in the future if you are planning a trip to Galena!
I am so sorry, but this question just came through. I apologize but we have no openings until mid-September.
There are no rooms on the first floor. All four suite are on the second floor with 17 steps up. Hope this helps!
