We just left from our 3rd stay at Steamboat House, and again were delighted by both the accommodations and the owner. All things "Covid", the inn took special care to ensure we were not only safe, but that we were also enjoying our stay---making sure to ask several times if there were things we needed as they were not allowed to enter the rooms during our stay per Illinois guidelines. They even placed additional toiletries and waters outside our door "just in case". Over a very steamy 4th of July weekend, the entire house remained completely comfortable with its quiet & efficient central air. The breakfasts, evening snacks, and daily wine receptions were amazing as always. Carol's rates are actually lower than the majority of historic inns in the area, and a great value for the beauty you get to enjoy. To note--It is only a few blocks walk to Main Street with all of its shops & restaurants. Everything is open, but you just must wear a mask and there is now dining, in part, outdoors, so part of main street is closed to traffic. You can still park on the ends and behind most buildings (currently, all free).

My wife and I just finished staying 3 wonderful nights at this cozy Bed and Breakfast. We had the large Elsie room, and just loved it. The spacious room was comfortable, allowing a great night’s sleep each night. It was decorated very tastefully. We loved the location! We could leave our car in the parking, and after a short 3-4 block walk we were on Main Street with all the shops and restaurants. What made our stay most enjoyable were the extra special touches provided. 5:00 PM we would go downstairs where cheese and crackers and a selection of wine were provided. We loved sitting outside (either on the spacious porch, the screened gazebo, or one of the several downstairs large rooms and enjoy our happy hour. At night in the upstairs lobby an array of tea, cappuccino, hot chocolate, and some of the best scones we’ve tasted were set out for us. This was the perfect ending for a day spent in the Galena area. What really stood out was the breakfast each morning. Every morning we enjoyed a different entree, home cooked and delicious! We definitely agree with others that our selection of the historic Steamboat House was the best choice in Galena. I couldn’t imagine having to hassle with parking each time we came into town, or trudging up the high bluffs which house other B&B’s above Galena after shopping or a meal. This is definitely a “return to” place!

I have to admit I was not looking forward to our visit. I am very uncomfortable staying in someone else's house, especially with other strangers. I normally wake up between 4:00 and 5:00 am and sneak out of the room and go to a lobby and read until my wife wakes up 2 hours later. Sneaking around a hundred and seventy year old house in what most people consider the middle of the night did not sound like much fun. I explained this all to Carol when we arrived and she put me immediately at ease. I went to a McDonalds only a mile away and got coffee, came back, and settled down in the library and had a nice quiet morning. The strangers became friends very quickly. Room (Bess) was great- porch was special I could sit outside and read while my wife watched TV. Breakfast was very good. House was special-loved the history.

Thank you for the review. I'm happy you enjoyed your stay and were able to have some valuable quiet time early in the morning. The house is quiet and the main floor parlors, wrap-around front porch, and gazebo allow guests places to read and relax. I appreciate your business and kind words!

This was our fourth stay at The Steamboat House; it is always a privilege to lodge in this historic home furnished with period antiques. Innkeepers offer great hospitality beginning with hot coffee or tea at 8am, delicious breakfast at 9am; followed by wine & cheese at 5pm. Rooms are well-maintained & always freshly cleaned. We stayed in the ‘BESS’ with the private screened porch which is very relaxing. Off street parking allows you to safely leave your auto on the premises if you decide to walk downtown to the shops & restaurants. Thank you, Carol & Katie!
