The Steamboat House was really nice. Comfortable room, beautiful decor, great breakfasts, and pretty convenient, despite a major road project going on for months in Galena. Highly recommend. Carol was a great hostess.
Everything about our stay met our expectations and more. Carol is a wonderful host, with treats provided afternoon and evening, as well as a scrumptious breakfast. Beautiful garden yard, and the interior is beautifully decorated. The road construction didn't impact our stay at all. Would stay here again.
Beautiful B&B however it was a very uncomfortable nights sleep due to mattress being old and worn out. The mattress was lumpy and uneven to the point where I would almost roll off of the bed if I didn’t sleep towards the middle of the mattress. I believe that one of the most important things in a B&B is the comfort of the bedding, and this B&B completely missed the mark. Another issue was that the only bed coverings were the sheets and a very old scratchy quilt bedspread laying over the sheets with no regular blanket. The scratchy quilt and no blanket even made the bed more uncomfortable, and I for one do not like to sleep under old bedspreads as I have to question if they are laundered after each stay. On another note, some of the decor is a bit overkill and not needed. There is not a consistent theme here. For example, the strange Knick knacks such as old creepy dolls and other miscellaneous stuff all over the place are really not needed and take away from some of the ambiance. It just makes it a seem a bit cluttered. This is a beautiful mansion with amazing history, but it truly needs more attention to detail in order to be considered a premium B&B.…
The home was build in the late 1800s and is filled with charming details, which are kept very clean. There is a pool table for guests to play and a well stocked library with games, music and books. Communication was good and prompt, the host offered wine and cheese at 5pm and cookies at 8:30pm. Coffee was available at 7:30am and breakfast was served at 9. It was nice to awake to the smell of coffee and bacon! Our room had a gas fireplace in it with a timer which was nice - just turn the knob and there is your fire. there was a TV in the corner. The bathroom was modern and had a nice supply of soap/shampoo etc. There is off street parking in the rear of the building and a lovely gazebo in the front, located just in front of the huge porch - I'm sure it is nice in the summer months. Town is about a 7 minute walk away. The bedding was comfortable however, I didn't love the spring mattress, I'm not used to that type. Otherwise, the experience was lovely. The host is fully vaccinated and she said mask wearing was our choice.…
The Steamboat House is tranquil and absolutely lovely. The house is filled with beautiful antiques, and is currently adorned with decorations for fall and Halloween. We were pampered with delicious breakfasts (served in the formal dining room), wine and cheese social hour, and evening beverages with sweet treats. Who could ask for more? The experience was immersive and a perfect way to spend our wedding anniversary. Carol, and her daughter Katie, should be crowned the 'Breakfast Queens of Galena! Wish I had asked Carol for her recipe for cheese puffs - or maybe for a couple more of them for snacking! We also appreciated having a nice parking lot for our vehicle, versus other properties with limited parking on the street. Yes, it was definitely a million miles from Monday!
We had a great time staying at this lovely B&B. It's a beautifully restored 19th century mansion in a quiet neighborhood, but it's just a short walking distance away from downtown Galena. Carol is a wonderful, friendly host. In addition to a delicious breakfast, there's wine and cheese at 5pm and warm cookies at 8:30pm. It's a pleasure to spend time at the home, but the historic sights of Galena are just steps away-so sightseeing is super easy. We loved every minute of our stay and look forward to a return visit!
Favorite Bed and Breakfast we have ever stayed in. Decorated with exquisite detail. Several large rooms to play pool, piano, board games, read magazines and books. The owner is so sweet and hospitable . She had a wine and cheese hour, warm cookies and hot chocolate in the evenings, gourmet home cooked breakfast. Bedrooms are very large and comfortable. Beautiful gardens. Would definitely stay here again.
We've never stayed at a B&B before, and this was a TRUE DELIGHT! It was like stepping back in time to the Victorian era. The house is from late 1800's. It is very clean, cozy, attractive and decorated like the era. Carol (Proprietor) is a kind woman and runs a very nice place. There's so much décor to look at in so many public rooms. There are 5 guest rooms. We stayed in the "Bess" with out own balcony. We had a private bath - very modern/efficient. There was "wine/cheese" time at 6, cookies/coffee/tea at 8 PM, and breakfast at 9 in formal dining room. All was delicious and inviting. We loved the billiard room. Relaxing to sit on front porch or on our balcony. I would definitely recommend this to someone who wants to get away from hustle and bustle or city life and from busy hotel. It was relaxing and elegant. Wish someone had played piano as would've been lovely to listen to and even have a sing-a-long. Love all the rabbits/eggs interspersed in the decor. Can't say enough how lovely this B&B is and how nice everything was!…
We loved our trip to Galena and especially our stay at the Steamboat House. Carol and Katie made our stay so pleasant and comfortable. The mansion has a wonderful history and is located perfectly for exploring Galena. It is filled with charming artifacts and furniture along with modern conveniences. Great breakfasts! (Ask Carol to make cheese puffs.) Thanks, ladies!
Literally one of our favourite experiences!! We LOVED the atmosphere and feel of staying in this historic mansion, the hospitality throughout our stay, the detailed and intricate antique decor, the uniqueness of each room, and the hosts!!! It felt like we were guests being hosted at a friends home and it was such a lovely time! The breakfasts and coffee were delicious, and the afternoon drinks and cheese and evening cookies was an added treat. We miss it so much and wish we had stayed longer! Seriously some of the most wonderful hosts we’ve interacted with! We’ll definitely be returning!!
