If you enjoy history, Galena should be one of your stops. The main street is a mecca for shoppers and the DeSoto House, built in 1855, is right there on main street and they have their own parking ramp for customers. If you plan to spend a couple days I would highly recommend this hotel. Walk out the front door and the only decision you must make is to turn right or left. Each room in the hotel is named after an American history figure that was in some way connected to Galena. The rooms are very well maintained and relatively small and that is part of the charm of the building. Three restaurants are in the hotel for your meals. What more can a “power shopper” want; great food and great shopping.
We missed our Annual Spring visit a now it looks like we won’t make our Fall visit. Because of Covid we have missed visiting our favorite hotel, this year. Tim and hope everyone working there is healthy along with their families. We hope to see everyone this Spring and enjoy dinner and breakfast with a wonderful staff.
Nice old hotel with great history. Pros: an ideal location (esp for first timers to Galena); free indoor parking within hotel; good package price; staff and service were good; quiet room; breakfast was delivered quickly - hot, decent with great oj and good coffee (better than sitting outside in the rain in a tent during 10/20). Con's: bar closed; restaurant had only limited seating outside; super soft mattress; some peeling wall paper; bed spread (outdated and probably not washed); outdated overall; needs more outlets. Great potential and sorry we missed out on amenities inside.
We wanted something different for our anniversary and this fit the bill. The history and ambience were perfect, and the service was outstanding. Diane at the front desk and Nekeysha at the bar in particular are standouts. The location is also perfect being right in the center of town. and the ghost stories... Really enjoyable.
A little disappointed to have spent just over $500 for 2 nights and have a crap view. Room selected was with hope to see river, Grant Park. Room delivered was on floor two and looked out on the corner of Main Street. Pillows were not plush. Old fashioned TV and stand. That being said, room was roomy, high ceilings. Parking included was a definite perk as street parking looked to be hard to come by and was limited to 3 hours. We did appreciate and use the in and out privileges of the parking. Location is excellent for all downtown shopping, dining, activity.
