Hilton Orrington is situated in the heart of the college town of Evanston. A picturesque lakeshore metropolis, exuding charm and Wildcat pride. Home to the Wildcats of Northwestern University, you'll be immersed in the scholarly liveliness of collegiate life, as well as plentiful recreational lake town activities and the distinct authenticity of mom-and-pop shops, eateries, distilleries, and breweries moments from downtown Chicago.

Walk through the historic tree-lined streets of Evanston, to gain a greater appreciation of the nineteenth-century architectural style, enjoy a sun-soaked day at Light House or Clark Street Beach, along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Immerse into the culture with a visit to Frances Willard House Museum, Halim Time & Glass Museum, Block Museum of Art, Evanston History Century, Gross Point Light House, or the Emil Bach House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.

We had a family event in Evanston and reserved the Chancellor/Presidential suite to have a place for out of town guests to gather and connect in a casual atmosphere. The room was perfect, we brought in/catered our own food and people were able to come and go over the two days we were there. We were also transporting local folks back and forth and the valet staff was excellent and accommodating. Loved being in downtown Evanston.

Had a tremendous stay here for a family wedding. Jasmine took great care of us by assisting with special arrangements when a manager was in a meeting. Valet was quick. Beautiful walk to Lake Michigan and Northwestern campus. Excellent dining at Thomas and Dutch.

The Orrington desperately needs a makeover! It is old and faded. Poor HVAC system. Rooms are dingy without adequate outlets. Bathroom is small. Inadequate lighting. Carpets are dirty and old. The hotel has not changed since I last stayed here 8 years ago, and probably since I first stayed here decades ago. It's location is great, the bar and outdoor restaurant are nice, but Evanston needs something better!

We ended up not staying here but there’s a reason for that. We really wanted to, but there was a lot working against this space. There is major construction going on next to the hotel and the majority of the suites are all located on the side that is next to the ongoing construction. We looked at rooms on both sides of the hotel but the rooms on the other side were quite small with odd layouts. As we walked through the hotel, we also found that the cleaning supplies smelled so pungent in the hallway and rooms that it had the vibe it was trying to cover up some other smell. It was just way too strong. Also, the app listed rooms that were actually not available when we checked at the front desk and the room service mentioned in the app was also no longer available. This is a cool building and the front desk person who helped us was very patient in showing us the rooms but the hotel just felt way way under par for our expectations. Interesting thing of note - there is a swimming pool in the basement of this hotel that is not accessible and not restored. Note to Hilton - restore the pool! That would add so much appeal and architectural interest.

This place was selected based on location. I had a neighbor who was really loud so I called down to the front desk at 10 pm and they did nothing for an hour. I had to beg the front desk staff to help get me some sleep so I can work the next day. Typically, the cause of disturbance is ask to move but instead I was asked to move at midnight. Matt was handling my situation and he was incapable of doing his job. He never physically came up to take care of the situation. I spoke to Matt at 9 pm and Billy at 11:09 pm. Billy moved me to rm 741 which stunk and was full of stains on the floor and walls. The room odor was putrid and unfit for a paying customer. I was moved to rm 741 for 5 horrible days. This is unfortunate because the building is supposed to be a historic building. Poor management has turned this historic building into the dump that is today. Spend your money elsewhere. This hotel is the worst Hilton I have ever experienced. Will not be back.

Upon arrival, the front desk check-in was a bit rude because I didn’t get my ID out fast enough for her. I didn’t think anything of it because I thought she might be having a bad day. However, I quickly realized after I got into my room that this was going to be a very challenging stay. The odor in my room was horrendous! I would describe the odor as a combination of urine and wet dog smell. The rug in my room was filthy, sticky, wet and full of stains. More than 8 large stains on the rug. Spatter stains on the walls. My room was 741 and it was incredibly disgusting. I am a business traveler and this experience by far was the worst. Go elsewhere! This place is best described as a dump. It was late so I went to bed and requested housekeeping the next morning. It did not improve the smell. No amount of cleaning would solve the odor without replacing the rug and repainting. I have been a loyal Hilton member for a long time but this experience convinced me otherwise when it comes to quality and consistency.

I must comment on the terribly off-putting attitude of this hotel's late-night, Front Desk Manager, which was anything but serviceable. I mistakenly booked a room for three nights for a business colleague, that I wished to pay for in advance so that my guest could check-in smoothly. Unfortunately, I chose the "pay at the property" option when booking, not realizing what difficulty that would cause me. The 3rd party hotel booking website wouldn't allow me to pay for the room via credit card over the phone. Nor would the hotel when I called them directly to explain the situation. So, I decided to go to the location and take care of the charges the evening prior to my guest's arrival. After I explained what I wanted to do at the hotel's front desk, I was met with a most callous refusal to accept my credit card and was told that I would have to return upon the guest's arrival the next day to pay for the room. I explained that this was an extreme inconvenience, especially because I was there NOW (at the time) to do that very thing. I was told that I could have filled out a credit card authorization form seven days prior to arrival–an irrelevant, most unhelpful bit of information, given the circumstances. In addition to being unhelpful, the person (Evening Front Desk Manager) was extremely rude and patronizing, obviously taking some kind of twisted pleasure in denying me assistance. But perhaps I'm giving them too much credit. Maybe they weren't sophisticated at all, or just inept at problem solving. It seems to me that a viable 'customer service' workaround would have been to suggest taking my credit card information, adding it to the reservation folio, and running my card upon the guest's arrival. Hopefully someone effectual, who cares will read this, take note of the date (the evening of August 9, 2023) and will add this incident to what I venture to guess is a growing history of behavior of this nature by this employee. Meanwhile, I will NOT be doing any more business with this hotel, because I just remembered that the last time the very same guest stayed there (about six months ago), he was accosted by hotel security, who asked that he present his room key upon entering the hotel. Take a guess what race the guest is? And no, he's middle-aged and was definitely not wearing a hoodie.

Had some great times at this trip and some bad times at this trip. We stayed at this hotel for 5 days. First I have to shout out billy at the front desk. Anytime we had any issue he was on top of it, he was friendly, remembered our names and faces and made us feel really special. But for the bad part… we walked into our room and the carpet was soaking wet, the smoke alarm was completely taped up and my glasses fogged up it was so humid. We asked to switch rooms and we were denied even though we were platinum members. They told us to turn the AC to the max help the humidity. We also asked to have our sheets changed, towels changed, and room cleaned everyday It did not happen once. We had gone up to the front desk 3 days in a row asking for maid service and it just never happened. When we were leaving the maids actually came up to us and got mad at us for never having our room cleaned!!! They also told us we would be charged for that was not cool. Since we were staying as platinum members we just wanted to be taken more seriously and with more respect

I stayed three days in the hotel; staff was friendly in general, with some exceptions. Overall, the service and quality of the amenities was ok. It was an otherwise good stay if it weren't for the after-stay nightmare. I was charged ~$180 at check-in for incidental; this was supposed to go back to my account after check out. Well, it's been over 6 weeks and still nothing. I've tried to get help from Hilton, wasting multiple hours waiting on hold. Contacting the hotel's front desk, good luck with that. Awful post-stay experience.
