A debit card can be used but it's not like a credit card where they can put a reserve on it. They'd have to withdraw a fixed amount which would be in their account. I think you are better off bringing cash and paying for your incidentals that way. Debit cards and hotels don't always make the traveler happy and it's problematic for the hotel as well.
