One of the oldest colonial properties in Ecuador, this 325 year old hacienda is located in the skirts of Cotopaxi, it's made of volcanic stone walls of two meters of thickness. Turned into a hotel in 1982, when it opened its doors to offer the visitor the poetry of a time and the nature of the zone, La Cienega is an unforgettable memory of The Andes.
A very nice historic place to stay. Beautiful hallways, decorated well, grounds are nice. Yes it’s cold, be prepared. But there are heaters and fireplaces. Friendly staff, great night’s sleep! The chapel was wonderful, as was the long driveway with trees on each side.

Entering the garden over a extremely bumpy unpaved 4th level road opens a fascinating view over this very nice looking building. Arriving mid day we just left our bagage and discussed already that the room is quite cold. Coming back in the late afternoon an electrical Oil radiator and a noisy small Heater were working. However, a very cold and big room is difficult to heat up within 3-4 hours. We asked to light up the open fireplace. We had dinner in the restaurant very close to fireplace there but it was still not cosy at all. We have to say that the food ordered was by far the worst we had in all 2 weeks from Andes, Amazonas to Galapagos. So the coldest night we ever had. However, the served breakfast is in contrary very good. Too bad.

We spent one night here while working our way down to Cuenca. It recaptures a bygone era with its lovely rooms, excellent service, circuitous hardwood halls, pretty central garden, and great service. I would definitely return.

Remarkable and beautiful place to spend a night. Depending on what room you have, some are better facilitated than others, the ones with the hearth are warm and characteristically decorated referring to the rich history of the Hacienda. When spending an evening in the richly furnished saloon you feel as if time regresses. The delightful company of the ginger cat and the fantasmas add up to the experience!

A fabulous traditional hacienda 300 yrs old convenient to stay after the Cotopaxi climb. Staff were attentive but spoke almost no English. We had a grandiose suite of rooms and a stone balcony over reception. No open fireplace but the electric heaters kept us warm. Beautiful gardens with its own chapel! The food was rather underwhelming though.

I so loved this hotel! Wish I could have stayed longer than the one night. We drove up and my jaw dropped...I felt like I was approaching a castle in England! The hotel is so beautifully decorated, and the staff are so kind and friendly. My room was enormous (larger than my house!) and had its own fireplace! Breakfast was delicious. I would love to come back here. Definitely a gem!

What a great feeling to residence - at least for one night - where Alexander von Humbolt and many other historical celebrities stayed. The Hacienda has a very rich history and the immense rooms let you get a glimpse of that era. We felt a bit sad being the only guests - still we enjoyed our delicious meal in front of the huge chimney.

This was an unexpected treat to stay here! After leaving Coxtapaxi, it was a bit of a drive but well worth it. It is on the way back to Quito. Once we arrived, It was as if we were ushered into a castle straight from England. I never expected this in Ecuador. From start to finish, it was a class act. Our room was extremely spacious. The grounds are gorgeous. Alonzo took perfect care of us - from building us fires in our room to showing us the grounds to serving our meals. Thank you for an unforgettable evening.

After driving on a bumpy dirt road, the driver veered through an iron gate and the sight was simply magical. A long alley with incredibly tall eucalyptus trees on both sides and at the end of the road, a mansion which would not shy any Hollywood production. The hacienda is a very beautiful place with a rich background dating from the late 17th century with beautiful stylish and elegant furniture and a sumptuous garden at its center. Staying at the hacienda throws you back into its history ( which is all over the walls) and make you feel like you are in a movie. The room I had was very spacious, with a giant bed and a fire place and a large bathroom. The restaurant served a fixed menu where you get to choose between dishes. not too much choice but what I had was tasty, I warmly recommend this place for business stays and for romantic couples.…

My sister and I stayed at La Cienega for a night last week and it was an amazing experience. The mansion itself is from 1695 and beautifully furnished with original furniture and well kept. Because of COVID we were the only ones staying there that night but the staff went above and beyond to prepare an amazing meal for us and make us feel very welcomed. We especially appreciated Alonso who gave us a tour of the grounds and the gorgeous rooms and views from the top level. We would highly recommend this place to anyone traveling to Cotopaxi! The meals and accommodations are incredible!
