Front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Excellent location. Not a place to go for glamor, but I wasn't looking for glamor. It is an affordable option in a vast sea of not-so-affordable ones. Would stay there again.

This was our third stay at DeWitt Hotel. It is a great value and is in a great location. Within walking distance of both Navy Pier and Watertower (if you are in good health). Because DeWitt Hotel has suited, you have the option of cooking in or eating out. Many great eateries also within walking distance.

The room was very clean and the space was more than enough. The location was PERFECT! It’s literally close to everything, just a 7 min walk away from Ohio st beach, and down the street from water tower place! I’ll definitely be back!

Lucky that the hotel is well situated cause the beach and the beautiful bicycle path are walking distance cause the hotel is disgusting!! The personnel are nice but the rooms are terribly dirty and old!!! If it wasn't for the location it would be an easy 2 and maybe 1 star I'm being generous cause it's less expensive then many other hotels around!!

The DeWitt is one of the most affordable options in downtown Chicago; the location is fantastic (2 blocks from John Hancock Center and Michigan Avenue), and it's very accessible, being within walking distance of major attractions and bus routes. DeWitt is a vintage building which along with the low price makes for a number of interesting quirks; mind you, none of these should come as a surprise if you read their website's front page carefully. It's all spelled out in there. The building is in need of some love, both outside (facade under remodelling in 2019, this is explained in the web site) and inside (many of the finishes are outdated and in some disrepair, kitchen and bathroom fixtures could use some extra elbow grease or replacing); housekeeping is by request (I'd never seen this before but it wasn't a problem), and the heating/AC system is slightly odd (centrally-controlled heat plus window AC units), the elevators are small and entirely non-digital (we loved the analog floor indicators). None of this really detracts from an informed choice to stay in a 3-star hotel; after all, all you need is a clean bed to sleep in after a long day of visiting the city. We liked the building's character and the room itself is reasonably spacious. We had good experience with the hotel's staff, from speedy check-in and check-out, to local advice from one of the building's supervisors, to a "virtual assistant" to whom you can SMS requests (we have no problem with calling front desk for this kind of thing but doing so via SMS was pretty convenient). The one thing we didn't like about sleeping in the DeWitt is how noisy it is. During day, there is construction work, which we knew about; and at night, there's still a constant din from a very large city. The problem is that the (7th-floor) windows, though double-paned, block no noise at all; it's like sleeping with the windows open. This was troublesome both during our toddler's nap mid-day, and at night, where there was constant noise coming from outside. To make the noise situation worse, the fridge is 12 feet from the bed and is very noisy; we were awoken constantly by the compressor unit turning on and off. A good night's sleep is one of my main criteria when reviewing hotels; due to the noise, I can't really give the DeWitt good marks in this respect. Other than that, we were perfectly happy with this hotel.
