I have such positive memories of the Hotel Allegro and remember I used to visit here numerous times with my cat when I had moved away from Chicago. I just completed a fun "staycation" getaway as a treat this Saturday. The minute I walked in Chuck the valet and doorman greeted me warmly and he actually recognized me from years ago. The Allegro has been part of the Kimpton boutique brand for many years and it has gone through major architectural changes throughout the years becoming an incredible art deco showpiece in the city of Chicago. I remember visiting this particular hotel and enjoying the Christmas 🎄 market in the Daley center just blocks away. Before the pandemic hit there was a fun hot chocolate hour in the morning and early afternoon and it was always so much fun to gather in their gorgeous marble lobby for light snacks and hot chocolates. Part of the fun was having the opportunity to meet the other guests at the hotel and enjoying the social aspects of staying here. When I checked in yesterday Ben immediately recognized that I had been a long-term member of Kimpton and he presented me with light snacks and a bottle water. I was also upgraded from a standard room to a stunning two room suite with a cozy and elegant living room and an elegant bedroom with a king sized bed and one person jacuzzi tub. It was so nice to recognize familiar faces and even Shikar was here this morning greeting people at the door before I checked out. The Allegro also has two person jacuzzi suites so I highly recommend anyone take advantage of these upgraded rooms and lavish themselves as a decadent self treat. Everything here during my stay was pristine and well organized. I even had the opportunity to chat with the director of housekeeping (Michael) who helped me out with my welcome amenity points. There is also a friendly Starbucks right next door so you can grab a latte during your stay. I wish the Allegro good karma and continued success and I definitely look forward to returning here soon! I decided to share some photos 📷 of my room here in this review so you can get an idea of how welcoming and spacious the suites are. I do bring some blankets and scarves from my home just to add a bit of color; but if you study these photos you can see how large the living room is. I also loved how firm the mattress was and I absolutely appreciated the two extra pillows the hotel provided me in the closet. The Allegro is a charmer. If you love and appreciate architectural landmarks you will definitely love the vibes here.

Hotel- Kimpton Allegro (Chicago, IL) Date- 11/6 – 11/8 (2 nights) Overall: 3/5. Good/Average. Overall, this was a fair experience, for a stay during the pandemic. The staff members we interacted with were pleasant, and the room we ultimately received met all expectations for the brand. Rewards Club Recognition- 4/5. Above average. Although we were not verbally thanked for our loyalty, we were given a branded bag containing a chocolate bar, a bag of bbq chips, some skittles, and two waters. We were not given welcome amenity points, and we had to ask to get the usual $10 Raid-the-Bar credit. Our room was upgraded initially to a ‘King Premier’ room. Please note that this property is leaving the Kimpton chain, and the usual amenity offerings are not being provided. Staff- 4/5. Very good. Alyssa, with whom we interacted via text message, was helpful. Ben, at the reception, was kind and efficient during check in and each time we had a request. However, his comment, “at the end of the month, we are done with Kimpton” did not come across well. The bellman and concierge at the entrance were engaging and informative; they deserve kudos for their customer service. Property Appearance & Maintenance- 4/5. Exterior- 4/5. Very good. The hotel is well branded, and the entrance is clean yet timeless. Interior- 5/5. The lobby is attractive and spacious. The hallway carpets, baseboards, and furnishings were in good repair. Hallway light fixtures were functional and provided enough lighting. Elevators were functional and quick. Accommodations- 5/5. Excellent. Our initial room was a “King Premier” room, which was good in many ways, but the bathroom was so tiny, my spouse insisted we either change hotels or change rooms. The “King Suite” we were then assigned was much better. The bathroom was spacious and had a tub with jets. It was quite a difference. It is well worth the additional cost to pay for a suite. Housekeeping- 5/5. Excellent. In both of the rooms we were assigned, the carpets were clean and the bathroom was spotless. Towels and toiletries like shampoo, conditioner, soap, toilet paper, etc. were all provided in a supply adequate for the length of our stay. Pool/Gym- Closed during the pandemic. Breakfast/Meal Options- 3/5. Average. No meal options were available in the hotel, due to local pandemic restrictions, but the hotel will assist with local restaurant ideas (outdoor dining only was permitted). The minibars are emptied, and a limited number of items are available in the pop-up bodega. Ultimately, I did have the Raid-the-Bar credit applied towards a bottle of wine from the bar area, since the hotel charged $28 for the bottle of wine normally provided as part of the brand amenities. Laundry- not evaluated. Computer/Printer/WiFi- 5/5. WiFi was strong throughout the hotel, and streaming was smooth. Other- The hotel advertises its amenities on the website, but it is inaccurate. Social or wine hour is discontinued (no alternate offering is provided). Morning coffee is discontinued; after asking twice, a keurig coffee maker did eventually find its way to our room. Valet service is discontinued during the pandemic; a neighboring garage can be used and charged to the room. Sanitizing stations are unusually limited for such a large hotel during the pandemic.

We stayed there because our son was getting married in the city. We had a group who stayed and I have to say that the employees went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay! Our group kind of took over the lobby of the hotel throughout the weekend and never felt like so comfortable! They allowed us to continue the celebration, without any comments or concerns. With this whole pandemic putting a damper on the wedding, it was wonderful that they were so accommodating! Thanks again!

We had our wedding block for our guests and families during covid19 at hotel allegro. The staff is beyond extraordinary. They went out of there way to help with everything we needed. From allowing dogs to arranging photo shoots for our wedding party. I cannot recommend this place enough! Fantasy is probably the best most patient person on the planet. She made this step of our wedding stress free. Also, the hotel is just gorgeous! Take a moment to look at all the detail in this fabulous building!
