We stayed at the Westin as part of a Dead and Company package for the Wrigley shows. Check in was a breeze, our extra night stay was combined with our package nights with no issue. Getting an upgrade and late checkout was easy peasy. Great location, close to train and everything else. We walked to Navy Pier and then to the River Walk. We stayed on the 8th floor with a view of michigan ave and the John Hancock bldg. We loved the view Room was spacious, quiet and clean. Bed was very comfortable. There was a hairdryer, and room was quiet despite being right outside the elevator. Starbuck's line was only busy Saturday morning. Cons - restaurant is expensive, but many options right out the door pillows were too soft in room coffee - not great We would stay here again by choice!! and D&C shows were Amazing!!!…
I'm currently here, and if I were staying more than one more night, I would check out early. This experience reminds me of that scene from Game of Thrones where Septa Unella is constantly ringing a bell and yelling SHAME at a naked Cersi Lannister walking through the streets of King's Landing. At least Cersi was atoning for her sins. This Westin has no shame - or should I say the owner of this property. My main issue can't be blamed on supply chains or labor shortages. But at the price point for the last few nights, you think money could solve some of this hotel's problems. First, the most seasoned road warrior knows the Westin brand is famed for its heavenly bed. I've always been able to count on a good's night sleep when staying at the Westin - not this trip. My bed the last two nights have been a hellish experience that doesn't provide for a good night's sleep. Simply, this mattress is dead. If you can't get a restful night here, then why stay? I've had other issues like no housekeeping after requesting it, no food being available when I checked in at 3:00 PM, a tattered duvet on the bed, etc. I'm sympathetic to any hotelier right now, but I get the sense this GM doesn't spend the occasional night in the hotel often. Because if this person did, my review and so many others wouldn't be warning people off. So unlike Cersi, I've learned my lesson. As someone who gets to Chicago a fair amount for work and pleasure, I'm going to be skipping the Marriott brands. This Westin has a few competitors in the area and I'll be staying elsewhere. I do have a nice view of the lake, so that's something I guess.…
We just stayed at the Westin in a suite on the 26th floor. The suite is located right outside the elevator. The room was basically 2 old rooms combined. The ventilation was awful! It was a really warm 80 degrees weekend in Chicago and our room a/c could never cool down the suite despite being on HIGH the entire weekend stay. There was only 1 a/c vent by the master bed and nothing by the couch/tv in sitting area in bedroom. Then in the other room of the suite there was a bit of circulation, but it was way too warm. There was a tiny a/c vent in the bathtub shower stall but it couldn't begin to cool down the bathroom. We were in town for an event and when you're trying to get ready and it's so hot in your room drying your hair it's annoying. Also, we are Titanium Marriott members and were looking forward to enjoying the M Club/exec lounge type room at this property. It was CLOSED all weekend. Apparently they may only open during week days for business travelers? So unfortunate as we planned on using that in between our running around. The breakfast available for purchase in the restaurant downstairs was awful and cold food. So bad the 1st morning we didn't bother going back the 2nd morning. The lobby is nice and clean and has a tiny Starbucks but the line was always HUGE! There was not enough staff working the front desk during a check in on a Friday for weekend guests. Management should know the occupancy expected and plan for it! So annoying to wait in the longest line with 1 worker when you're trying to check in on a Friday afternoon! I had to take my luggage into the lobby bathroom and get changed in there for our late afternoon/evening event because our suite wasn't ready yet even past check in time!! Overall a great location for a hotel but it's too old and has issues so I will never stay here again.…
This may seem like a silly thing to take away stars over, but the lack of a hair dryer in the room knocks this down from 4 stars to two. I did t realize the lack of a dryer before my hair was already wet, because I was assuming this “4 star” hotel would have one.
The Marriott takeover has not been kind to this (and other ) Westin brands. But of course, they’ll blame it on Covid. The lobby is sloppy. There isn’t enough help at the front desk. There is no hotel restaurant, no room service. In place of a restaurant is an under stocked “grab and go,” and some vending machines. We were here for six nights, there is only housekeeping if you ask for it. No concierge. Doorman only part time. Bellmen? Haven’t seen one. You couldn’t ask for a better location for a hotel in Chicago. We have stayed here before and enjoyed it. But I doubt we’ll be back. We’re BonVoy members so there are options.
Rooms are not soundproofed as advertised. We could clearly hear people having sex and watching TV (we were both woken up by this in the night). Bathroom counter had not been wiped and was dusty, and body wash was out. Line at check-in was long. Wifi sign in process is annoying and wifi was exceptionally slow on the computer. Do yourself a favor and choose something cheaper for the same (or better) quality.
The hotel was nice. It appears to be a convention hotel and is right off Michigan Ave. The famous Drake is around the corner, and if you want to see the lake it's only a few blocks away. We did hear that Chicago has been experiencing some high crime rates with smash and grabs. Sadly, we didn't feel that safe walking around, so pretty much stayed in the hotel most of the time. The famous Macy's was gone. I think the crime was too much for them. Other than that, the hotel was pretty much a good fit.
Please be advised: there is no room service, despite what the Westin website suggests. Also, Sunday brunch buffet is lackluster and overpriced. Room was clean and staff was friendly, but I am so hungry.
Stayed at this hotel 10 years ago and loved the location… was so excited to be here again but was so let down and disappointed when the hotel seems exactly the same! Old, dusty and just in dire need of an upgrade. Pillows were flat, toilet wobbled everytime I sat down, no house slippers (even though online it says each room has slippers) every Westin has a robe and slippers I called to ask and they didn’t have any! Walls are paper thin we could hear the elevator ding every time it stopped on our floor and every knock on a door and every hallway conversation. Price was cheap, and now I know why. This property is far from a typical Westin atmosphere. Restaurant downstairs wasn’t great for breakfast, tasted like airport food. The Staff is friendly however. They are the only good thing about the place.…
I have stayed at the Westin Michigan Ave twice since December and was pleasantly surprised when checking in last week that the restaurant in the lobby is re-opened. Also new since my last stay - the evening reception for guests with access to the concierge lounge Monday-Friday. The hotel is older and the bathrooms are showing their age. However, the main areas in the rooms look to be more recently renovated and the lobby area is large and clean. Great location close to Oak Street and Michigan Ave shopping as well as the entrance to Oak Street Beach/Lakefront trail. I am already planning my next stay at Westin Michigan Ave
