Unfortunately if you’re a Marriott Bonvoy points monger you’ll only find out after you book that this is an Autograph property. As of March ‘23 anyway. Fine with me since I like the free breakfast for Platinum, Titanium and Ambassador members at this brand. Check in was swift. Midweek I was upgraded to a king room from a queen closet. Room was fine. Overlooks the Waldorf Astoria driveway. Too much noise from trucks banging around early in the morning on that side. Also the window shades let plenty of light in the morning. No sleeping in! Up and at ‘em! The complimentary breakfast was superb. Eggs, toast, potatoes and bacon were just right. The meal was swiftly served each morning. Happy to enjoy breakfast here two days in a row. Main reason for not awarding 5 stars is, as usual for Marriott properties below the Ritz Carlton and St Regis brands, aggressive housekeeping. Even with the do not disturb light engaged AND having received approval from the front desk for a 4 PM checkout, ‘Twas not enough. At 10 AM housekeeping banged on the door. Explained that I was still in the room but was intrusively questioned as to when I would leave. Had to plead for the time I was originally granted at check in. On other days of my stay the housekeeping staff were yelling outside my room. May I suggest an all staff stand up at the beginning of each shift to remind staff of the importance of guest revenue and satisfaction? Could go a long way.

Room Tip: Parking is absurd at $79 per night. Leave your gas guzzler at home. Sadly no discount for EVs....

We arrived at 10PM with a reservation. And I am Gold Elite with Marriott. We were greeted gruffly at check and simply told there is no water in the hotel and there will not be until 5am. They made no offer to book at a nearby hotel (there are many), no email alertIng me to this situation before I arrived allowing for an alternative accommodation. And mist aggravating, they did not offer bottled water (say to brush your teeth at least!) or any other accommodation to offset the inconvenience of no water. We walked the neighborhood trying to find an open store, there were none. So we asked at the bar if we could get some water to take to the room AND THEY CHARGED US FOR 2 BOTTLES IF WATER!!! They just didn't care about the situation or their guests. I would never recommend staying here. There are so many other nice alternatives in the area. This may be it for me with Marriott. They have really gone down hill.

Response from william rademacher, General Manager at The Talbott Hotel
Responded 2 weeks ago
Dear Paul F, Thank you for your honest feedback. We receive so much positive feedback from our guests about the Hotel and our Team so it is always so very disappointing to hear when we have let ourselves down. Unfortunately, during your stay we were required to complete a substantial emergency plumbing upgrade. We would always want to let our guests know about any interruptions that may happen during their stay however unfortunately due to the urgency of the upgrade it was not possible on this occasion. Our Teams worked through the night to complete the upgrade so as to minimize any inconvenience and the water was back on by 3am. I fully understand your frustrations and although this was a onetime occurrence that will never happen again, I understand the inconvenience that this caused you. We were offering complimentary bottled water to our guests on arrival and I am very sorry that this was not communicated to you. I hope that you will consider staying with us in the future so that we can redeem your faith in us and please accept my most sincere apologies for this. Kind Regards, Will

My husband and found our new favorite Chicago hotel when we stayed at the Talbot earlier this month. We love everything about this beautiful hotel. Our room was beautiful, and the staff were so kind and attentive. We loved our drinks in the evening and our breakfasts in the morning. Everyone treated us so well. When I inquired about possibly purchasing some serve ware exactly like the ones our breakfast were served on, Brandon Bierlien went out of his way, and above and beyond to help me find this serveware. We will definitely be staying here again!

I stayed at the Talbott while I was visiting my dad and sister, and it was an amazing experience!! First off, my room was upgraded and it was so fashionable and beautiful! I’d love to shout out Brandon Bierlein who provided amazing hospitality and service. We got drinks from the bar each night, the service was amazing and the drinks were delicious. We also got brunch on Sunday, which was A+. Would definitely recommend!

My wife and I absolutely love this hotel!! The staff is always friendly and helpful. They make you feel like family!! The hotel and restaurant are always clean and well kept. The rooms are nice size and very modern. I always get the best nights sleep in the very comfortable beds. After a Great Restful Sleep I really enjoy a Great Breakfast downstairs in the restaurant. Whatever you choose on the menu, it is top notch!! Fresh, perfect temperature, and nice portions. These are a few of our reasons we always pick the Talbott when we’re in the Chicago area!

This was my first stay at the Talbott and it was excellent! All of the staff were welcoming, check-in process was fast, room was very clean and comfortable, food and cocktails were excellent. Location is excellent for walking to great dining & shopping. I am a frequent traveler to Chicago for business and typically stay at another Marriott property in Wheeling, but staying at the Talbott was definitely worth the 50 min commute and I am looking forward to staying again. I met Brandon & Haley while I was there and both made me feel at home, away from home...thank you both!

Great value for the price. Clean spacious rooms. I stay for business in the area often, and always aim to stay at The Talbott. The food at the restaurant is incredible, and the service even better. The manager, George, is exceptionally accommodating, time after time.

The Good: Charles, the doorman still works here! He has been with Talbott for 20 years and is worth his weight in gold! He is so helpful with anything you need! The not so good: I didn’t pay top dollar for my stay this time and got a mediocre room with a view of the wall of the building next to us. The decor was dark, blah and looked dated. The heat in the bathroom that the Talbott used to have worked when we first got there, then quit. When we called the front desk about they said they couldn’t fix it because that feature was being phased out. The maid service never came so we had to ask for replenishment of towels, etc. The carpet is so ugly and dark brown so when maid service doesn’t come and vacuum, every little piece of lint shows all over, just feels dirty. They do not have a concierge anymore to help plan excursions, but I think most hotels are getting rid of concierge service which is a shame. The experience just didn’t wow me like experiences I have had in the past. Sure we can all look up everything on our phones now, but the expertise of someone that lives in Chicago and is in the know on “all the things” is a much more personalized experience and you might end up doing something fun you never even thought to do! Will I be back? Not sure…..I do hope they keep Charles for as long as he’s willing to work there because he truly is the Best!

Great boutique hotel near Michigan Ave. Both a restaurant and bar onsite. Full service breakfast. Rooms were a bit small but fresh and very nicely appointed. Friendly staff. Many restaurants just a walk away. Part of the Marriott program. Will stay there again on my next Chicago trip.

Brandon at the Talbott Hotel had provided the most exceptional Breakfast with Santa for my family and me this holiday season. Very organized event: there were scheduled time slots for families to arrive, valet available, delicious breakfast food served in a timely manner. The hotel is an upscale place but it is very cozy and warm at the same time. Brandon made us feels as if we were visiting family in the heart of Chicago. We will be back for stays and family events even though most of the family lives in Chicago :) Santa was available for pictures and conversation as long as needed, no rush. Luxury, great location, ambiance, great Christmas decorations, and a very personal experience. Highly recommend!
