Arrived at the Ambassador, Chicago to be greeted by the ever pleasant and cheerful, Melvin. He was genuinely interested in our opinion of the whole experience at this accommodation. Asking about our experience and unflinching to our honesty. A five star employee. A true gold star winner and amazing employee.

Very clean rooms and helpful staff. Our breakfast was wonderful. We also were able to leave our bags at the hotel when we arrived early, and they also stored them when we did some shopping the next day. The service was wonderful

Absolutely loved everything about this experience: the friendly, knowledgeable valet staff, the front desk attendants, the bartender, and the housekeeping staff. 5 stars across the board. This is now the place I stay when in Chicago.

This was obviously an iconic property in the early days, but Hyatt has not done anything other than cleaned it up. This was way below the Hyatt brand and I would never stay there again. The bathroom was so small I could not take a shower.

Beautiful hotel, comfortable beds, excellent showers, friendly staff. I loved the location close to excellent neighbourhood restaurants. Don't miss morning coffee in the library, by the roaring fire! I can't wait to return to this hotel.

The hotel staff are excellent - efficient, friendly, and helpful. The location is good and convenient. But the overall condition of the hotel is not up to the standards one expects from an upscale Hyatt property, especially one with a great history of service and quality. Our room was spacious and had lovely views to the east (toward Lake Michigan) and south over the attractive neighborhood. But the furnishings were similar to what one would expect to find in a university student's room furnished by IKEA. The large bathroom had a single floor mat that was about the size of a hand towel, which meant that it had to be moved around to be close to the tub, or the sink, or anywhere else. To my surprise (and thinking like the lawyer that I am), the shower had no grip bar nor an anti-slide surface. Generally I am unimpressed by hotel art, but it was a surprise to find bare, white, unadorned walls in both the bathroom and the bedroom. Ice machines are on alternate floors, which means that a guest on a floor such as ours has to go up or down in the elevator or fire stairs to get a bucket of ice. Coffee and tea are served in the lobby for guests, and one can purchase a muffin or similar small breakfast item there instead of going for the full breakfast experience in the restaurant, but these days, even inexpensive chain motels have small coffee makers in the rooms. At the rates charged by the Ambassador, a simple coffee maker in the room would seem to be a reasonable expectation. Lighting in the public areas is dim. The elevators were mis-behaving while we were there, and more than once we - and other guests - had difficulty with the elevators, which would sometimes simply stop at a floor and refuse to budge up or down. When I was a young fellow, my grandparents lived just a block away from the hotel, and they loved to entertain family and friends at the Pump Room. The current restaurant, which has photographs of famous visitors to the Pump Room, bears no resemblance to its ancestor. It reminded me very much of restaurants at the Hotel Moskva and the Hotel Intourist in Moscow during the last years of the USSR - ugly furniture (with peeling laminate), bad lighting from fixtures that were never chic, and ugly floors. By comparison, the staff were first rate, and the one meal and drinks we had were quite good. The neighborhood is filled with cafes and restaurants of all types and styles within easy walking distance, and so dining is not a problem.

The staff at the Ambassador is amazing. This includes the housekeeping staff who couldn't have been nicer and Felix, the wonderful security person who saved my hide not once but twice. It is centrally located and easy for a person in a wheel chair to get in and out of. The restaurant leaves a little to be desired. The food was middle of the road and the service slow. That being said, we really weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter. The bar area is great. Bar staff too.

We had a nice visit a the Ambassador. The food was very good and the rooms were comfortable. The beds were especially comfortable. I never sleep seven straight hours, which I did during my visit. The location is very good as well. Thanks.

Moved here after an unpleasant stay at another hotel and we were very satisfied with the total experience, well other than the cost of parking $62/night. Everyone was very helpful and courteous fell in love with this place.

Just a half hour walk from downtown, the Ambassador Chicago is my sweet spot for a comfortable, clean, and effortless stay. Nestled in a beautiful quiet neighborhood, the Ambassador has a classy and star studded history. Today it feel under the radar and cozy. Loved the king room and being able to get an early check in. That really helped us maximize our time in Chicago. Thank you and we'll return!
