Gabriela is a wonderful server at Hoyt’s. My sister and I were visiting in Chicago for a few days and met Gabriela on our first morning. She was so delightful we made it a priority to see her for every breakfast! We highly recommend Hoyt’s and to ask for Gabriela!
Our family was headed to Iceland for a family vacation and had connector through Chicago. We had never been there as a family, so we decided to do a 24 hour layover there and stayed at the Royal Sonesta Downtown. Hotel is very centrally located to river walk area and a lot of the better restaurants and shopping. Hotel is located adjacent to the river and if you get the river view room it is more expensive, but well worth it. Front desk staff and valets were very friendly and accommodating. They answered all our questions about recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. The hotel restaurant was very good, but a tad bit on the pricey side for breakfast. Food was very good, especially for hotel setting. Staff was very friendly. Room was large (at least by big-city standards). Beds were extremely comfortable. Shower was wonderful. Room was clean and just what you would expect for the price you you're paying (not cheap). Overall great experience. Only downside is that it is a ways from O'Hara Airport and route is subject to delays, so in planning around that, be sure to build in extra time going and coming from airport. Traveler tip: get the river view room, it's worth it. …
The stay was very nice and the staff was very accommodating. The hotel and room were very clean. The lobby smelled amazing… that’s important! The location can’t be beat either. Katina was great and so nice. She helped answer any questions we had about the city and the hotel. We would definitely come back and stay at the Royal Sonesta.
Staff was great! Especially Katina in security, she went above and beyond each day!! Amazing views from the Pent house!! Our wedding was beyond terrific. My sisters wedding went perfect and we were all extremely thrilled with everything.
This hotel is so nice. My family and I had a great time. My son did not want to leave! The staff was very friendly and courteous. When you go to royal sonesta, ask for onye! She was such a sweetheart!
Katina made our visit to Chicago very enjoyable. She was more than helpful to answer questions, direct us in the correct direction, talked with us making us feel welcome and appreciated. The hotel was very clean, rooms very spacious and comfortable.
The staff here is beyond helpful and Katina helped me more than I could have ever expected. From helping me with parking to helping me locate missing items she has gone above and beyond every step of the way. I’ll tell everyone to stay here cause of service like hers
During my stay, there was an incident where I was being video recorded by a guest while I was having a calm conversation with the manager about miscommunication between myself and staff. I was asked by a member of the security, Kadijah, if the person recording me was my husband. I had let her know my husband was in our room sleeping. I look to see who the person was, and although recording someone isn’t illegal, it was a violation of my privacy given the fact I was providing my personal details such as room number and name. The person claimed to have removed the video, and the staff made sure to do their part to make me feel comfortable, and most importantly, safe. I would like to thank the hotels manager Onye, who made it his goal to make sure I continued my stay with the hotel and that I was comfortable, including upgrading my room to a spectacular view. Security made it their priority to walk me to and from my room while I felt extremely anxious in a moment of chaos, and your front desk, Dominique and Josh also did their part in assisting with any and all needs from beginning to end. Although hotels staff did an amazing job, being that I myself come from customer service, I would like to share some tips for some of the staff who made me feel uncomfortable. Onye walked me and my husband to the hotels restaurant and told the waitress to take care of us with drinks (no food). I ordered 3 drinks, my husband 1, and when it came to closing the tab, the restaurant manager made sure to make me feel very uncomfortable with her attitude and let me know that I was wrong and I misunderstood and they’d only cover 1 round. That was not at all said. Paying the bill was not at all a problem for my husband and I, given the fact we started and continued with paying at the restaurant. What was disappointing was her lack of care and sympathy in the middle of a situation that had me extremely anxious. She was cold, and as a manager, I would have expected better, as that is WHY she is manager. Maybe we should send to training? As far as front desk, I would also like to address very similar coldness with one member of the staff, Angie. From the moment I arrived, she was cold, serious, and honestly, came across like she did not want to be there. Many times I tried speaking with her asking for tips and help, and she was serious. I had also asked for towels and blankets be sent to my room, and she made it clear that was not possible while I was not in my room because of hotel policy. But to my surprise, there were towels inside my room upon my return. Hotels policy of 24hr cleaning service was not stated at check in, and to not be told of a policy that was later broken is extremely unacceptable. Being that her job is in hospitality, it was unfortunate that she lacks the motivation to be in the field. The front desk is always the first impression, and she did not make you feel welcomed, nor should she be in the field of hospitality. With all being said, I’ve shared my experience with so many from family to work, and all are shocked at how such a great looking hotel at an expensive cost can have such low security.Ir makes one reconsider their stay. I’m grateful to the team that did make my stay safe and I hope this hotel grows i safety and hospitality…
We had a great stay. The staff was very helpful and friendly all of the time, especially Katina the security guard. She was very helpful with everything we needed and very friendly to us every time we saw her.
Located a couple of minutes walk from Michigan Avenue and State Street, right on the river walk. Impressive looking lobby, but very overpowering smell. Not sure what it was but gave me a headache when I walked through. Staff were mostly nonchalant, barely looked up from the desk when you walk by to go to or from elevators. Rooms are clean and facilities in room are good. Maid was knocking on door to clean at 8.15 one morning when I was still in bed. Didn’t use restaurant/ bar, looked nice though. Great location but can take your pick from round there. Wouldn’t be too fussed about returning. Nothing wrong but nothing great either.
