It’s rare that I leave bad reviews unless I feel like there’s really something others need to know. Several of my family members and friends work in the hospitality and service industries and have to deal with entitled people complaining for no real reason. So frst, credit where it’s due: The staff at the 720 South restaurant was wonderful. Our server was very accommodating and made the 9-year-old whose birthday we were celebrating feel very special. Plus, when I had a solo drink earlier in the evening and went to close out as a room charge, the bartender (on the younger end of an older man, mustache) leaned in close when he asked my room number so that I didn’t have to broadcast it to those around me. As a woman who travels solo constantly, I really appreciated that thoughtful concern for safety. That might be the first time I’ve experienced that in very frequent travel. That said, a ridiculous and unnecessary exchange about my Diamond benefits left a bad taste in my mouth. It made me question this property’s judgement, and I likely won’t be back. They didn’t respect hard-earned status, hoped that I hadn’t done my research, and made it clear they didn’t appreciate my business. Via messaging in the Hilton app (which I do love), I requested a 2p checkout. I’m a Diamond member and they promote a 4p checkout (of course, based on availability). I booked this hotel specifically because it looked likely that they’d honor that late check-out. I made sure to check availability on the same room type for the night after we were leaving (I only booked about a week out), and it was ample. The night before check-out, I requested a 2p checkout. They told me the best they could do was 12p. I mentioned my Diamond benefits. They reminded me that late checkout was based on availability. Knowing what the occupancy looked like — and checking real-time availability on their website — I said, “So all Lakeview rooms are booked for tomorrow?” They said yes. Either they were lying to me or they were lying to people booking rooms. There were THREE different types of Lakeview rooms available for sale, including the specific type we were in. Then the story changed. “Another Diamond member requested your specific room.” OK, well, whenever I select a specific room at any Hilton property through the app, there’s a disclaimer that says the room number is subject to change — and I mentioned that. They would not address that comment. They did not budge on the measly 12p checkout despite my status and the many, many rooms available to book for that night on their website. Here’s the thing: Had they simply been up front and said, “Hey, we’re short-staffed on housekeeping” or “that member who requested your room is celebrating a special occasion” [as we were] or even “my manager has a date night and wants that room,” I would have been totally fine with it. But I felt they were being dishonest and blowing me off. It’s a growing number of experiences like this with Hilton brands that have caused me to start to shift my loyalty to Hyatt.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for your detailed feedback. We strive to provide the best service and comfort to our guests and it is rather disappointing that we failed to do so during your stay. We apologize for the service discrepancies you experienced and the lack of accommodation toward your Diamond status. This is certainly uncharacteristic of our hotel and staff as we truly value our guests and look for ways to improve our service. We will be addressing your concerns with our team, so we can better respond to our guest's needs. It is our priority to prevent similar occurrences from happening in the future. On a positive note, thank you for recognizing and appreciating the services you received from our 720 South Restaurant staff, and kudos to the bartender who was very professional during your interactions. We hope you will consider staying with us again so we can exceed your expectations. Sincerely, Maggie Morales Hotel Manager

Hotel's Favorite
This was our first trip since Covid. The hotel just reopened recently. Even though it was July 4th it was not fully booked. The hotel is not fully staffed yet but you would never know. Every single person we encountered was friendly, helpful, and nice. The hotel and our rooms were very clean. Due to Covid, you schedule when you want housekeeping to come. You also make reservations to use the pool for a two hour time slot. It was so nice cause the pool was not crowded and you actually got to enjoy your time in the pool. Housekeeping would do a wonderful job. We loved the room. We had a lake view room. Our room had two full bathrooms, one had a shower and the other had a tub/shower combo. It was awesome. We didn’t have to share with our teens and two people could get ready at once. The rooms are very spacious for a city hotel. The beds were very comfortable. The location is right on Michigan Ave down the street from Millenium Park. Everything was walkable. The restaurants are opening up again. We didn’t have a car and it was ok. We will definitely stay here again. We loved it.

I arrived on Saturday and first room was very small with a view of a brick wall. Returned to front desk and requested different room. Front desk person showed me a bigger, nicer room with an up charge of 25.00 per night. Declined and he eventually offered a city view with no extra charge. Bed was soft, but shower was not as tidy. Molding is old and needs a deep cleaning. Later I visited fitness area, and it was a charge to use fitness equipment, sauna was not working properly, whirl pool only subpar. The hotel seems like it is struggling financially, charging for every little thing. No late check out and staff not that friendly. Elevator floors needed vacuuming.

It is perfectly located, comfortable, beautiful, frendly staff, almost perfect. The only reason why cleanliness is not given a five-star rating is that they forgot to clean one of the bathrooms in the room when housekeeping was requested. Otherwise everything was perfect.

My husband and I were visiting for a conference from Massachusetts. Absolutely gorgeous lake view room! Very welcoming staff especially A wonderful guest relations attendant named Mercy. She was warm and fuzzy as I checked in after a long day! Big thank you to the Housekeeping staff! We requested extra pillows and coffee. They were more than accommodating! I had to write the housekeeping staff Gratitude notes.🙏 An absolutely wonderful location with an upbeat warm positive staff. My favorite thing was how fast the elevators were for an old building! Simply the best! Would stay there again!

Stayed here for one night bussines trip. I am a Dimond with Hilton and I can tell you better stay at Motel 6 you will get better service. Called twice because the heater on the room was not working and my room temperature was 65 F. After waiting for 1h and nobody came to check on the heater I went down to the front desk and they just told me that they will change my room because there was no technician to fix the heater, that was at 2am yes . Why they didn’t change me on the 1st time I called at 1am and they made wait for that long?

This is my second time at this property. Corporate has a three-year contract to meet here so I’m stuck with this hotel for a few more years. First of all the staff is very pleasant and easy to work with. But beyond that I was fairly well unsatisfied with everything about the hotel. Here’s what I can think of right now. Parking is $79 a night so keep that in mind if you decide to drive. Also it’s a terrible parking garage I could see where people would scrape their cars on the tight curves going up, and there’s also really not very many spaces available. Our room was a total disappointment, for so many reasons. Number one I suppose is that there are no chairs in this room we have a bed and a desk with a desk chair, but no where you can sit and watch TV or work that’s comfortable. Also the shower was fairly old or it was a tub with a shower kit, but my big complain in the bathroom was there were only two towels and one washrag for us to share. We were here for four days so that clearly wasn’t enough. The meeting spaces well nice were all over the place and up and down tons of stairs. After a while you learned that you could take elevators and get close to many of them, but still very chaotic. The food forget it it’s a small menu the food was below average and I wound up having to leave the property for every meal to have some thing that wasn’t poorly done.
