I am disappointed to say that the employees of Essex Inn and the Inn itself leave nothing to be desired. I came to Chicago for the first time over this past weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. I chose the Essex based upon location, price, and ease of getting around due to not being familiar with the area. Upon check-in...

Beautifully clean room and ensuite on 11th floor with floor to ceiling window. The heating looked like night-storage radiators (might have only looked like it) and we turned the fan off because the room was really warm even though the weather was chilly. LM restaurant served good breakfasts and we had dinner there once. As already stated by others, a...

It would be easy to be put off by the superficial appearance of this hotel. It is old. The decor is somewhat dated. The heating/cooling system is bizarre. However, the hotel is in a great location just a few minutes walk from Field museum and Shedd Aquarium. The L train is just two blocks away which made getting around the...

Prime Location!!!!! Everything is walkable, if not the bus, L, or Metra are all right there. I bought a groupon so we got a King bed room,Sun through Tues, for $89 a night including 2 general admission to the Field Museum. The lobby is under construction but it's not messy or loud. Staff is super nice, they will hold your...

Keep an open mind when reading the bad reviews. I understand not all stays are great but this hotel was very nice. Yes it is old, under construction, and has an old heating/ac system, but we had a great stay. The room was on the corner with AMAZING views of the lake, museums, and Navy Pier. Our room temp was...

The Essex Inn is set in an excellent location on South Michigan Avenue directly across from Grant Park. Within a few blocks walk are plenty of restaurants and stores and many of Chicago's main attractions including the Museum Campus, Millennium Park and The Loop. It is also a few blocks to the Roosevelt 'L' train station making public transport downtown...

This hotel was great, I booked it through Hotwire, I was not sure what the expect but was very pleased. The lobby was being renovated but that is not a big deal to me. The rooms were great, there is a little street noise but nothing horrible. The staff went out of thier way to answer questions and help in...

The Essex was exactly what we were looking for - centrally located, a big pool, and a great price. The rooms were small and basic but fit our needs. Check in was easy & efficient. Ask for a room far away from the elevators and ice machines!
