Kiera made check in a breeze! My stay was wonderful—friendly and professional staff and the room was clean and lovely. The Grant Park Bistro was great; food/beverage vouchers for each day make up for the destination fee. The location is convenient for all kinds of activities, restaurants, and access points for public transportation. If you’re picky about toiletries, they provide Malin + Goetz hand soap, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and body lotion (which I loved).

This is a very nice hotel. The staff were so accommodating. They offered bottles of water at check in and check out, That was a very nice touch! The rooms are updated, clean and the bed was very comfortable. There were plenty of towels and washcloths in the room and as always it is helpful to have the body wash and shampoo in the shower. I will plan to stay here again when I travel to Chicago. You really can’t go wrong at a Le Meridien property and Chicago’s location did not disappoint. Thank You!

I drove to Chicago for a last minute client catering meeting and stayed here in the beginning of December. The location is great (South Loop) and while I did not partake in valet; I found well lit accommodating parking around the corner. I truly love the security; having to utilize your room key for entrance and the elevator makes me feel more secure during a stay.

Fast forward and I decided to stay here again for a 4-day birthday getaway at the end of the month. Upon check-in I was greeted straight away with eye contact and a smile as they took care of the guest in front of me.

The lobby was bustling with excitement as people were preparing for New Years Eve! When it was my turn, I presented my ID and credit card and mentioned about my previous stay and decided to come back for my birthday on a personal visit. Markel at that moment was looking over my license and said, well Happy early Birthday! He and Jasmine hooked me up in a nice room and even presented me with a little "Birthday Grab-Bag," complete with water, chocolate, cookies, and a nice note!

I had a snafu (not the properties fault) on my stay extension and Nikali was also a great help with getting me settled. Since the process took a little longer to get through, I was given another $15/restaurant card (also given at the beginning of your stay.) I was thankful for her help and patience with my 2nd reservation.

My stay was awesome as I now find this one of my new favorite hotels!
P.S. Feel free to tip your Hospitality workers!

Le Meridien Essex is a beautiful hotel with a fantastic view of Grant Park. Upon our arrival, we noticed how friendly and helpful the staff was. Kiera gave us restaurant suggestions and extended our room for a late checkout. Every staff member that we had the pleasure to meet was amazing.

Our room, the Deluxe Guest Room, was modern and sleek - with personal touches such as robes, slippers, a coffee machine, and a Bluetooth bathroom mirror. Plenty of room to dance around and get ready for a night out. The fifth floor was relatively quiet beside the train passing by. My suggestion is to request a room higher than the 7th floor. While the 5th floor was nice, we would have loved a view over the treeline. My only suggestion for the hotel is to upgrade the bedding situation. The comforters were thin, and we woke up cold in the middle of the night.

As for the area - we felt safe and loved that it was close to mouthwatering restaurants, beautiful walks, and stuff to do. I also need to shout out Grant Park Bistro - the food is innovative, and the staff is top-notch. I highly recommend the Kale & Basil Pesto, served with delicious sun-dried tomato bread. Be sure to double-check with the front desk to receive your $16 voucher that can be used for any food or drinks.

We stayed here as a couple for our Labor Day weekend vacation to downtown Chicago. The South Loop location is perfect (across the street from Grant Park and within easy walking distance to Shedd Aquarium, The Field Museum, Art Institute, and Millennium Park. We had a beautiful view of Lake Michigan, the Museum Campus, and Navy Pier from our 9th floor room.
The hotel is very clean and well- maintained, and we loved the mid-century modern style of the rooms! The mattress and pillows were very comfortable, and the linens were crisp and white.
The front desk staff made check-in quick and easy, and Kiera was especially friendly and helpful! Complimentary bottles of water and a $16 voucher for the in-hotel restaurant (Grant Park Bistro) were provided at the front desk on each day of our stay.
We will definitely be staying here the next time we come to downtown Chicago.

The location is central for Chicago siteseeing (and walkable from airport public transit; the building is in nice shape and well-maintained, and the attached restaurant was reasonably priced and good quality. Far and beyond - the staff! Managed to come in without half a dozen things I needed, all of which were seamlessly provided (toiletries, steamer, umbrella, laundry services) and multiple times, misplaced a key (which was replaced without complaint.) Staff were friendly, helpful, prompt and professional - an absolute highlight. Can’t recommend enough!

I specifically paid for a double room with a view (not city view, actually lake view) for me and my 17-year old on a college visit. At check-in the hotel tells me that they do not have a double available even though I paid extra in advance for the double room. Hotel then tells me that available double rooms were given to Marriott loyalty members with higher standing than me and that since I booked through a third party (Amex Travel) that the room was not a guarantee but rather a "preference". So other people's preferences were met before mine - again, even though I paid extra in advance. They say that room type would be guaranteed had I booked directly on their website instead of using third party. Hotel then says that Amex Travel "must have a glitch in their system" because they should have known double rooms were limited for my stay period (apparently some were "out of order"). Hotel won't refund the difference in room price because they say I need to take it up with Amex Travel. Hotel did say that they'll try to move me the next day for the second night. So next day they say that they are fully booked and can't move me. I check on their direct website which shows double rooms as being available (I select it and go as far as I can without checking out with a timer that says "room held"). When I tell the hotel this and that I have screen shot proof of it they say "it must be a glitch in the system". Needless to say, I will never stay at this property ever again or even another Le Meridien and possible even Marriott ever again with all these "glitches" in the systems. Oh and my room did NOT have a view of the lake, it had a "limited view" (i had to twist my torso to get a slight view of water) which is a lower category room.

Other than the terrible customer service, the bathroom is tiny (not sure if my double room would have been bigger but I'll never know). We kept bumping our head on the ledge that sits above the sink b/c the sink space was way too short. Shower door would not close properly so floors were soaked. Maybe the horrible room experience with the room type just tainted my entire experience but this has been one of the worst hotel experience I've had in over 24 years of traveling for work and personal (and I travel at least once a month).

First time stay at this location. As usual will review with Pros and Cons:

PROS

1. Excellent location right on Michigan Ave across from Grant Park. Easily accessible by public transportation from either airport.

2. Great staff, especially Kiera at the front desk. Everyone else was friendly and outgoing as well.

3. Very reasonable price. I usually won't stay at a hotel that has one of those dreaded Resort fees or Destination fees, but the $15 fee here can be used towards breakfast. As a Platinum Elite. I get an additional $15 towards breakfast so had $30 to spend. I was also given a $16 voucher to use at dinner which covered the cost of my salad and Arnold Palmer.

4. Very well equipped gym including my beloved Peloton Bike which I used twice during my one night stay.

5. Room was small, but clean, great walk in shower, refrigerator and coffee maker.

CONS

1. Very small (room 824), but corner room. Usually get upgraded to something bigger, but was only there for one night.

2. Seat on Peloton needed some TLC. Hopefully, will be taken care of by my next visit. I let front desk know since apparently no one else ever bothers.

3. I never rent a car in Chicago because public transportation is amazing, $5.00 24 hour pass on trains and busses, including to and from O'Hare which I did. However, hotel charges $75 for overnight parking when there is a parking lot right next door where you will never pay more than $39 for 24 hours and even less (2-9 hours $11)

Cheer!

Marius

This is obviously an old hotel but seems to have been recently renovated. The bathroom, though it's about the size of a cruise ship bathroom, had new fixtures and conveniences including a sensor that turns the light on automatically when you enter, and a Bluetooth enabled speaker in the mirror. Storage space was adequate, and the rainfall shower had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The bedroom has just enough space for a bedside table on each side of the king size bed, and one leather chair. The mattress was a bit squishy, and the yellowed, thin, lumpy duvet is just covered with 2 flat sheets, and definitely looked like it needed to be laundered or replaced. The huge tv is good quality, though somewhat oversized considering the square footage of the room. Our 5th floor room on the 8th Street side was quiet, though we didn't have much of the "city view" that had been advertised. We weren't informed, nor were there any signs indicating that the room is not serviced every day. I had to ask for the espresso machine supplies to be replenished. We only had service once during our 4 night stay. I don't need fresh towels and sheets every day, but they could at least replenish supplies and empty the waste baskets. The attached Grant Park Bistro is not operated by the hotel, so you can't charge drinks or meals to your room. The room was comfortable enough and the location was perfect for our visits to the museums, Grant Park, Millennium Park, downtown and Wrigley Field. We were able to walk almost everywhere, with an occasional trip on the El, or an Uber ride. It seemed that we got good value for what we paid. The staff always wore masks and guests were also masked at all times, so we felt safe when using the elevators and visiting the bistro.
