Hyatt Place Chicago Downtown/The Loop garners appreciation for its prime location and spacious, well-maintained rooms. Many guests commend the cleanliness and the friendly staff, although some have pointed out housekeeping inconsistencies and service issues.
The amenities, including the complimentary breakfast and fitness center, are generally well-received, but a few guests have remarked on their limited hours and upkeep. Opinions on value are divided; while some travelers feel they've received their money's worth, others expected more for the price.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed 2 nights during the holiday season. Great value, perfect for visiting the city with your kids. Comfortable rooms, beds, clean and roomy, very helpful and very friendly staff. Perfect location. Not too far from train stations too.
We had the breakfast buffet for 2 mornings. Very fresh, many things to choose from, different fresh selections each day, and the staff that supplies and cleans up between people was AMAZING!!! I can't believe how quick and efficient they are. We've been here twice, and it's a warm, welcoming place to return to every year.

This is a really nice hotel. I’ve stayed at some other Hyatt Place hotels around the country that weren’t nice so I was a little tentative about staying here.
I’m glad I did stay, great price and a large room. Bigger than some apartments in NYC.
If you come to Chicago look this property up for a stay.
The bar is good and breakfast is included.
The gym at this property is huge and has state of the art equipment.
No room service but you can get food from the bar and take it to your room.
Good laundry service is available, they do t drop it in your room so remember to stop at the front desk to pick it up.
The staff is helpful and friendly as well.
Fine to casual dining is a short walk from the hotel and the river is a block away if you like that.
Try this hotel you will like it.

The staff members were very friendly and helpful. Covid Practices were great. Breakfast choices were extremely limited, but they were clearly trying their best to offer something amid Covid precautions.. Be aware that parking is in a public garage and you must get a barcode from the hotel first or your parking fee goes from $39 a day to $70 a day. We parked our car and left it there for our whole trip. We walked almost everywhere. Public transportation was readily accessible. Lyft was efficient the few times we used it.

I stayed here for two nights. Initially I was impressed with exterior - really nice tall building in central location, rooms are large with great bathroom, sofa, tv and bed. The gym is also excellent with great equipment, water fountain, toilet and lovely scenery. However, I was extremely disappointed by some things. Firstly, the SHOWER it was lukewarm the entire time and there was little power it was like a trickle, this is hard to understand given the bathroom looks great. I suspect to save hot water, but this is a major factor in overall experience. Second, the location of the room was RIGHT next to a building on an alleyway so I had zero natural sunlight and had to keep my blinds closed the entire time. This is misleading and not made explicit when you book the room. Thirdly, the corridors are noisy some of the time, as well there was both smells of cigarette smoke and marijuana. I have to say I was very surprised by this, especially in a Hyatt hotel.. There was also no water in the room.

We liked the location of this hotel (business district) and the lobby and hallways were clean and inviting. Our room was ok but we were disappointed to have a room facing the brick wall of another building. Literally no view of anything but brick. We used hard earned points for this stay to make our vacation economical and because we needed to pick up a rental car which was at an adjacent location. When I use points (no matter the brand) I am somehow always left feeling that because my stay was “free” that I am lesser appreciated than the paying customer. I feel it should be the opposite—loyal customers should be treated better. We paid a fortune on stay-cations at our local Hyatt Regency prior to staying at this inferior Hyatt Place to earn that “reward”. Yet when we checked in there was no verbal thanks of our loyalty, no opportunity to upgrade when I asked due to the "category I booked" (isn't there only one option of room type when you book with points?), and no free water bottles offered due to my lowly category of Hyatt Membership. There were TONS of welcome bags with water bottles and when I asked for one (because the free water was way too lemony), the desk clerk looked at me like I was a mooch and told her coworker "just give her those" (small water bottles). Two other issues we had with this hotel were a sub-par breakfast and a shower curtain that was missing three hooks. We tried to be very careful that water wouldn't get out the sides of the tub but we still ended up with tons of water to sop up from the floor each time we used it. When I went down the next morning, I asked for the towels to be replaced which they said they could not do, but they did give me extra bathroom linens after asking twice. I more so just wanted the front desk to know about the need to fix the shower curtain and they seemed completely unapologetic and unconcerned the two times I mentioned it (once again at check out).

We travel very often and we have always been happy with Hyatt Place but this hotel disappointed us a lot. We paid extra for a room with view and we had a room at the 8th floor in front of offices. I made the remark at the reception and they told me that my room was considered with a view and that Booking lied in its descriptions (I can't imagine how the rooms without view are like).
For breakfast they give bags with a packet of cereal, industrial biscuits, milk and a small fruit juice. We are travelling with our three children and we had to argue to have 5 bags, they only wanted to give us 4 bags while we had our booking for 5.
They don't clean the room during the stay because of the Covid but let the customers walk without mask in the hotel (even in the elevator).

Thanks for the feedback SylDtrip. Hopefully the misunderstanding with breakfast was worked out - we actually just ask how many to-go breakfasts you'd like and don't require everyone from the room to be present. The hotel does follow the City of Chicago and Hyatt Corporations mask and PPE policies and require all entering the building to wear face coverings. There maybe people that are exempt due to medical conditions. Additionally, the hotel will provide any guest of the with a complimentary mask should they forget or lose theirs while staying with us. Just trying to do our part to keep everyone safe and healthy!!! Thanks again for sharing!

During the time of COVID You have to be appreciative that the business is open. I am, Housekeeping is only every 4 days. The room was large and super clean
The housekeeping policy should have been explained upon check-in. The front-counter employees did not wear uniforms and did not wear masks. There is plexiglass, but often times these employees have to move around. There are no signs upon entering the lobby asking guests to wear masks.
The upgrade to a "view" room is a view of the building directly across the street. I think that is a bit deceptive. I guess many of the rooms abut a brick wall

Thanks for the review Didi33133. Our housekeeping policy is to help protect both associates and our guests. All associates are required to wear masks while on property, at all times. We take many precautions for both our guests and our associates and have secured an abundance of PPE for our staff members. Additionally, we have multiple signs on the front doors requiring masks as this has been mandated by The City of Chicago. Thanks again for your feedback.

The hotel was clean and the staff was professional and pleasant. Check on/out went smoothly and quickly. The view from the room (9th floor) was awesome. The bed was comfortable and I loved that the shower was hot with good water pressure. There was a continental breakfast and a bar in the lobby. They don't clean the room daily but if you request it and request extra towels and washcloths they bring them to you. Overall a great hotel and experience.

The city view is an alley and brick wall. There is a minimum $20 upcharge to actually see the city. Pay it if you are there for a family trip or otherwise. With the city shut down the brick wall gets really boring really quickly.
The pool is reservation only. Reserve your spots a check in or you may not get in the pool at all.
Use the safe even if you are OCD about checking the locks. Sometimes someone on staff may enter your room and leave the deadbolt engaged, leaving your belongings at risk.
If you think you will need anything make a list. They will NOT bring it to your room. You will have to wait in line at check in and wait again for them to get what you need, then carry it to your room yourself- this will prevent multiple tri[p for you and if you are high risk, it will minimize your exposure.

Hi Jason, We would love to host you in an upgraded room for your next trip to Chicago. We certainly try to limit exposure from a guest and associate perspective and understand that the travel and hotel experience may feel a little different during the pandemic. It was a pleasure to host the Berner Sosnowski wedding block and an honor to be able to celebrate love over the New Years Holiday. Thank you for the feedback, I've reached out to your personal email in an effort to connect with you regarding the experience overall. Thanks again for taking the time to send the reviews.

The hotel itself was nice. Ambiance is cozy and chic. Room is nice and clean. We spent 4 nights in the hotel from Nov. 9 to 13, as birthday/family vacation. When i checked in, girl named Liang, checked me in and i asked her if she can give me a room with a tub since its my birthday, but she told me there wasn’t available. And that is only for PWDs , I was hoping that she will do extra mile since its my birthday but she didn’t so i was disappointed. And her communication in English needs an improvement because i actually didn’t understand her that much.
Luckily, after our boat tour and dinner when we came back, my partner asked the girl name Sephanie if she could check if theres an available room with a tub, she checked it and said that we could move, that was an extra mile and im glad we asked. We moved to two queen beds with a tub in the 10th floor room 1001, she’s super nice and i like that she did an effort to look for available rooms. Very nice. Thank you so much to Sephanie for doing that, highly appreciated.
One thing that we dont like, is the breakfast buffet. It seemed like theres not much effort. We were hoping for hot scrambled eggs or hot meals, but then there’s boiled eggs, its not that good seemed like kitchen staff were lazy to cook in the morning.
Also we tried using the laundry, we waited for like 2hrs to dry the clothes but still wet, the dryers need to be fixed since its not working properly. But i appreciate housekeepin for doing an extra mile by drying our clothes to their laundry, but bad side is, they dried our clothes in really hot temperature, those our new sweaters, and jackets that we just bought for this trip. Since its hot temperature, some clothes shrunk, and it doesn’t look good anymore, those are new but after drying it it looks old already. Sad, but thanks anyway, we should’ve not done the laundry if only we knew.
Overall, i would rate it 8/10 during our stay. Thanks Hyatt!

Hello, we require full payment, plus a $75 hold for incidentals at check in. Parking is $50 per evening with in and out privileges.
We're a short 14 minute walk or five minute in a rideshare vehicle from Union Station.
Hi Jennifer! The valet service is on leave currently, but we have worked out a deal with a local garage (half block). The cost is $39 and allows in and out privilege's until 4pm on the day of checkout. Hope this info helps!
