Went to Chicago to see Hamilton and needed a room so our daughter booked us this hotel next to her condo. We did not research it at all which was a mistake on our part. We climbed 50 stairs to our room which was a lovely spacious room but it did not have a TV, phone or clock, all things... More

We have stayed several times at the Ruby Room in Chicago. It is not a 5 star hotel with all the amenities, but rather a small hotel in a diverse neighborhood filled with great restaurants and friendly people! The bakery across the street is outstanding! The people at the reception desk are welcoming and helpful. The beds are super comfortable... More

The room and bathroom were nice and comfortable. I found the bed very comfortable as well. The room (4C) was advertised as a "city view" which pretty much was the view of the roof next door and some buildings in the distance. It was very quiet while we were there, and the fan on the HVAC system can be turned... More

I'm of a bit of a split opinion about this place. On the plus side, the location is really great for exploring Wicker Park and the rooms are quite charming. The spa amenities in the bathroom are quite nice. On the negative side, I don't think this place really wants to be a boutique hotel and deal with the attendant... More

Hey Allison, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Having only 9 rooms, our business model does not allow for 24 hour front desk support. We make every effort to communicate who we are and who we are not on our website and in our confirmation materials. Unfortunately, Expedia, Hotels.com, etc. won't share guests contact information with... More

I stayed at Ruby Room for one night because I wanted to stay in a hotel in Wicker Park and there really aren't that many options. Overall, it's a pretty nice hotel, but a very quiet atmosphere and late arrivals can really wake you up if you're sleeping. I normally stay with the larger hotel chains, but they just don't... More

We wanted to find a place to stay in the Wicker Park area of Chicago. We were looking to find an apartment for our son in the Wicker Park/Bucktown area since he needed to be close to the "L". There are not a lot of options in this area. We found the Ruby Room searching on the internet. The rooms... More

The best of this hotel is its location in the heart of Wicker Park. We expected a boutique-style hotel stay and found the amenities disappointing. The hotel service staff double as the spa staff and don't appear interested in hotel guests. Each floor has a chalkboard so you can request items for your room...but no chalk! Our room was missing... Unexpected upgrades will always bias my reviews, and this upgrade was magnificent. We arrived after the 7 pm desk closure, but were given excellent directions on parking and security to get to our upgraded garden suite for a two night stay. The ground-level room was incredibly spacious, boasting 4 beds, separated by partial walls and a large kitchen in a... More

I would like to say that Kenny was really helpful and courteous upon checking-in. Before I proceed with my review I have to say I am a bit spoiled especially when I travel so not having a TV or working radio or conditioner in the shower (it was empty) is not a good place for me stay at to begin... On our one or two night stays for a specific event in Chicago, we usually stay in a hotel. Not finding anything available in our price range this time, we cast a wider net, and to our good fortune, found The Ruby Room. It was conveniently located just several easy walking blocks to The Subterranean, our destination for an indie... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
"Best in the City" - Chicago Magazine.Ruby Room Hotel & Spa is one of Chicago's most unique overnight destinations. Just 8 minutes from downtown, in the heart of historic Wicker Park's restaurant, shopping and nightlife scene.Modeled in the European tradition, Ruby Room is neither a hotel nor a traditional B&B. Our concept is that of relaxation. By design, we do not offer telephones or televisions. We do not offer 24 hour reception or bellman services. We make a practice of not entering your room during your stay, unless requested. Ruby Room is a historic property and does not offer an elevator. Please keep this in mind, if you or any of your guests have a challenge with mobility. What we do offer are outrageously comfortable pillow top mattresses with 500 thread count linens, large marble and glass showers, 4 of which are equipped with commercial steam units along with complimentary AVEDA products. Crown molding and fine woodworking throughout. Modern furniture peppered with antiques, new community kitchen, gorgeous garden with waterfall and all a part of a day spa, hair salon, yoga studio, two retail boutiques, 5,000 square foot health club and a serene healing sanctuary. If you're looking for something super clean and relaxing, we offer a restful room attached to a unique spa in a super cool neighborhood. Your peace is our passion. ... more   less
