I don't like to do this, but the minimum 14 day cancelation policy is very unreasonable. I understand you are a small business and times are hard, but to keep my entire $178 even with 3 day notice and I see on your calendar my room has been rebooked. If Ashley really wanted my business in the future, she could have offered a one time waiver and just charge me the $25 cancelation fee, other than saying, "we weren't a good fit". Spending $150 for nothing does not sit well. Lesson learned I guess. I will not be using your B&B in the future and will not recommend to anyone, sorry.

Hello Judy We in fact did not rebook your room, I had only upgraded another guest to that room since it was available after you canceled. If we had rebooked your reservation, I would have waived the cancelation fee and only charged you $25 cancelation fee, which is not our standard policy and is me just being generous. I also see you failed to mention I offered you the option to use your payment as a credit for a future stay. Yes, we are a small business that made it through the pandemic and yes, times are still tough for us. I hope you understand that. We have a strict cancelation policy and I recommend you fully understanding cancelation policies before your next booking anywhere you go. Take care and stay safe! -Ashlee, Ray, & the Crew

This is our second visit staying at Ray's B&B in Bucktown. Ray's is a short walk to our son's place and has officially become our "home away from home" in Chicago. On this visit we stayed in the WEST ROOM under the kitchen. It is a small oddly shaped room with the on suite bath down a very narrow hallway... but the layout worked out OK for two adults and two children. Our girls loved the bunk beds and the queen bed was fine for the adults. We hardly noticed any noise at all from the kitchen on the first floor. Everyone slept very well - the West Room was warm and cozy on a few very cold Chicago nights. Once again Ray's breakfast delivered. This is the first time for the girls and they loved having pancakes and eggs. The eggs benedict was lovely and the omelets are HUGE. Bottom line... Ray's is great. Ray's is great for couples and for families. Ray's is eclectic and unique. Go to Ray's!!! We've tried two different rooms so far and will continue checking out a different room with each stay. Can't wait for the weather to warm up; we will be back at Ray's in 2022. I really need to get to see a Cubby Game... been way too long. For those who don't have a relative living nearby, you should definitely consider staying at Ray's B&B as your "base of operations" for your Chicago visit. Ray's is convenient to Wriggly Field, Downtown Chicago, and Lincoln Park. You can walk to the BLUE LINE (O'Hare, Downtown). There are great restaurants in the area. A cab to Michigan Ave was only $15. There is FREE street parking in the neighborhood.

This eclectic B&B was wonderful. We stayed in the Chickadee room for a visit to our daughter and her family living several blocks away. The room was perfectly clean and the king size bed was very comfortable. At our first morning's breakfast we found the exceptional menu amazing and delightful. The young man who does the cooking in his Carhart bib overalls is a master of his craft. You get a cooked to order meal, not the usual dry cereal, limited meat and eggs that other B&B's might offer. The room's temperature was comfortable given the season. We didn't visit the Sauna in the basement as the weather was unusually warm during our visit. The staff is attentive and always asked if they could do anything to help us enjoy our visit. There wasn't anything we needed that wasn't provided. Bucktown is a short taxi or Uber trip to downtown and offers the neat benefits of a neighborhood that still offers a corner bar just down the street, and a variety of restaurants within walking distance. Ray's has a couple of garage parking spaces, but there is free street parking available in the area, and the area is safe well populated family neighborhood where Ray's is located, not a commercial environment. For us, this was a most enjoyable inn that far exceeded our expectations. On our first morning of two, we had the opportunity to meet Ray and learn more about his wonderful collection of unique items that are everywhere. We spent several hours just looking at all the nifty art and historical items. Consider this B&B instead of a nameless hotel. You won't be disappointed.

Loved staying at Ray’s! The buildings have so much character and we loved how everything was decorated with art. We stayed in the Flamingo room and it was perfect. Jacuzzi tub was an added bonus! The cook to order breakfast was delicious and the noon check out time was perfect. Great neighborhood with a lot of great restaurants within walking distance. Overall a great stay and we would definitely be back!

Our daughter lives in Bucktown so we were looking for a closer hotel than the one we had stayed in previously in downtown Chicago. I happened upon Ray’s while searching for an alternative. I was immediately captured by the reviews of an eclectic bed and breakfast that seemed right up our alley. We stayed in the Room with a View for 3 nights. It was very comfortable with an awesome air conditioner, cozy beds and a great shower. We had arrived early so the rooms were still being cleaned but we didn’t mind as we enjoyed looking at all of the tchotchkes around the B and B. I’m sure I didn’t see everything! Ray has quite the collection of anything! We were concerned about eating with others for breakfast so we ate in the rooftop garden. What a wonderful place! Sitting with a cup of coffee and tea with our made to order breakfasts made us happy to be alive. The patio is filled with plants growing hot peppers, okra, and nasturtium. It felt like we had entered a secret garden! The breakfasts were delicious! We had the French toast, pancakes and omelets. The kitchen was also open to the guests to snack on cookies and other naughty treats. We can’t say enough about the manager, Ashley. She was very gracious and accommodating and seemed to run a tight ship. We briefly saw Ray a few times but did not get a chance to talk with him. We will definitely being staying here again when we visit our daughter. I would like to try out some of the other rooms. The great thing about their website is that they are very honest about which rooms may not be good for light sleepers. I appreciate that!

I always try and find a bed and breakfast when I’m traveling. This place had such a laid back atmosphere the breakfast was amazing and the servers/cooks were really nice ladies ;) I’ll probably pick a different room next time since ours was a little small but it was an amazing stay and I’ll come back here when I come to Chicago!

If you hate the cookie-cutter experience of the typical hotel, this is the place for you. It’s a funky little B&B that feels like a friend’s house where people drop in for the weekend. Not luxurious but not a dump. Collections of cameras, pottery, prints from local artists, posters, thermos bottles, etc., etc., line walls and fill shelves. The weekend we were there, the guests were mostly people in their 20s, mostly in Chicago to see friends or family. The B&B has breakfast to order (pick omelettes, pancakes from the menu or just order what you like). Very generous servings. It’s located in a nice neighborhood near the Blue Line and, as the brochure says, within a mile and a half of 100 restaurants. Rooms were clean, staff was great, food was outstanding. We’ll definitely be back.

I hadn't logged into Tripadvisor since 2018 but felt compelled to return, only to add to the mountain of praise for Ray's. My partner and I stayed three nights and Ray's cemented itself as my favorite hotel/bnb/etc with top-notch service and charm. Breakfast was stellar, the room was great, but above all, I felt comfortable and cared for thanks to the detail oriented staff. Ray's is in a central spot in Chicago, roughly equidistant to the Western & Damen blue line stops, as well as being close to the Armitage bus for quick access to things like Lincoln Park and the zoo. Tons of restaurants and bars in the area as well. I can't wait to come back!

Ray's was a great alternative to hotels and airbnbs. His vast collection of interesting do-dads, art, pottery, etc, was a unique addition to the stay. The place is very clean and comfortable, the breakfast was excellent, being able to sit on the rooftop deck with morning coffee was wonderful, and all the workers were pleasant to deal with. The Bucktown neighborhood is beautiful and you can easily walk to restaurants/bars within a mile. We'd gladly stay here again.
