We spent 4 nights at the hotel during covid. There was no regular room service but you could book it 24 hours in advance. There was also no parking but there is a parking structure just up the street and they gave us instructions on how to use SpotHero app to park. There was no coffee in the room but you could get it in the lobby in the mornings. The hotel is centrally located and we walk to most or the attractions.
My partner and I stayed at the Thompson for one night in December 2020. It was a little staycation, just for a change of pace in the midst of the pandemic. The Thompson’s location, right in Chicago’s Gold Coast, was great; the area had good energy, even during the pandemic, and multiple restaurants are within walking distance, ranging from very casual to fancy. The hotel’s vibe was majority altered by the pandemic. You could tell that the lobby was set-up to have a great vibe and cool bar; everything was closed due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, the front desk staff worked hard to welcome us, and they even provided us real glassware to enjoy some wine we had brought with us, which we appreciated. Our room, on a corner, offered a gorgeous view of Chicago and the street below. I thought it was well-appointed: super-comfortable bed, stylish furnishings in the little living room area, and a nice soaking tub in the bathroom. Everything was sparkling clean. I was a little disappointed that there was no in-room coffee available and that the hotel didn’t really have any kind of breakfast offering. Other full-service properties at which I have stayed during the pandemic have done a better job with that. But, overall, it’s a nice property. We had a nice room, a great view, and good service. I would not hesitate to return.…
I liked the furniture and decor of the lobby. My room was pretty dimly lit (although fine during the day with curtains open), and some of the art work in the room was on the disturbing side. Edgy certainly, but not exactly what one wants looming over the bed while they sleep.
We stayed in a room with a large soaking tub, and it was great. The room was very clean and had great views. Our refrigerator was not working, so the staff brought up a new one immediately. Great customer service. Great location surrounded by great restaurants and shopping. We will be back, thank you.
We were in the Gold Coast most of the day & evening. Our last minute decision to stay downtown overnight turned out to be a wonderful choice in choosing the Thompson Hotel. The woman who took our reservation & check us in was a great representation of the hotel.
