...like me. My reviews/ratings on hotels are relative to the amount of stars the hotel claims to be, just so anyone reading this knows. I could give 4 stars each to both a budget hotel and a 5 star hotel but that doesn't mean they compare, they're just both very good for what they are or are trying to be. Anyway. I could nitpick about why the Langham maaaaybe doesn't measure up to it's 5 star claim (especially knowing what Tokyo 5 stars mean) but really, I just read about what's going on in Haiti and my heart's not into being nitpicky. I was lucky to have the opportunity to stay here and ultimately it's a very good hotel with one caveat, will explain later. Located in the touristy, busy, but very clean area just north of Chicago's Loop the only downside is it's utter proximity to the Trump tower, but that's not the Langham's fault. There are a lot of restaurants nearby, so that's good, but many seem to be chains. Beds are heavenly, very comfortable. Bathrooms are large and luxurious, one of the only bathtubs I've been in that I could stretch out in (6' tall) there are two sinks, which is perfect for traveling couples, that was a definite plus. Shower had an overhead spray and one of those "portable" shower heads you can take out of the clamp and maneuver as needed, also a plus. Good hot water. Clear glass wall by the bathtub so you could see the view outside if you wanted, but could be made opaque for privacy also. I don't think everyone gets that with the glass bathroom wall thing, you can usually control whether you can see through it or not. Room layout is pretty good, there's a little room off the side of the entry hall opposite the bathroom, with a closet and hangers, a small desk and a stool that was very handy for stashing shoes, wallets, room keys, sunglasses, hats etc. and for equipping/un-equipping said items. Nice sized bed, and two comfortable chairs around a decently sized glass table that worked well for eating delivery food. Room decor was a bit off the mark but that didn't really affect the stay. Front desk and bar staff were very professional, friendly and courteous, They have a beautiful pool, especially enjoyed the blue lights above it, and a swanky locker room/shower area, with private shower stalls. Finally the bar at Travelle had phenomenal cocktails and pretty good atmosphere with nice views. Food at the restaurant was expensive and menu limited, but that's typical of most hotels, we didn't end up trying it. Really happy with the bar though, one of the better hotel bars we've been to. The only serious downside that might keep us from returning was this odd creaking/swooshing noise that went on all night on our last night. We assumed it was from a storm passing through as the night started out very windy, but the sound continued the next day even though the wind wasn't that strong. So, not sure what it was. Just loud enough to wake you up every so often. Not really the hotel's fault, what can you do? And maybe it was only in our room, who knows, but it was a little annoying and made for a fitful night's sleep. Again, not the hotel's fault but something to be aware of. For anyone concerned, not all the patrons felt the need to wear masks even though it was mandated. That's possibly one down side to a fancy hotel, staff aren't necessarily going to feel like they can tell their guests what to do, and the Langham clearly wasn't an exception, although we saw maskless people everywhere we went in Chicago, including on the trains. I blame the public more than anything, mostly. All in all still a very nice stay, I think the Langham deserves all it's 5 star reviews in the context of the U.S. and possibly our experience was limited to the room we were in, difficult to say without knowing what was causing that sound. Happy otherwise and the bed, really, heavenly.

Hotel's Favorite
From the moment we made the booking, the staff was highly attentive and was focused on meeting our needs during our stay. We had the pleasure of working with Shaun Rajah who contacted me ahead of time to talk through anything and everything we needed and expected during our extended weekend. In fact, he made a number of great suggestions for us that our family really enjoyed. He was very prompt and thorough with his responses and communication. Once we arrived at the hotel, the staff took amazing care of us from beginning to end. From the bell team, the valet team, the front desk, housekeeping, food & beverage onward, everyone knew who we were and paid special attention to our needs. I have had the good fortune of traveling to and staying in some of the finest hotels in the world, I would put the Langham in Chicago up there as one of the best. In part because of the beautiful and well-appointed rooms and facilities, but in large part because of the staff and the culture they have built around service. Lastly, the FOOD!! wow! We had some of the most amazing meals, right in our room!
