The Sofitel Chicago is an elegant hotel in a great part of Chicago. My wife and I have gone to Chicago a few times a year for almost four decades, and it is our favorite hotel in the city. The staff is courteous and unfailingly helpful. The restaurant serves excellent breakfasts in a beautifully designed space (we've never had any other meals there). The neighborhood has outstanding restaurants and coffee shops.
This hotel is located in probably the most beautiful part of Chicago and is in perfect walking distance of many of the main tourist attraction. The view from the hotel rooms is incredible (especially on the 32nd floor) and just all in all, the place is very nice. The people working there are also rather friendly and always ready to do the extra mile to help. What I would say we appreciated a little less is that the towels get exchanged every day, even when you keep them on the rack (the is a little note saying that in that case, they won‘t exchange then). This is really not too great, from an ecological view of point. We were also a bit disappointed that there was no pool in this 32 story building. The breakfast is very good but it is not a buffet but rather à la carte . All in all, a wonderful place to stay in Chicago!…
Excellent time at the Sofitel, very friendly staff. Stayed in a superior suite, beautiful room. Very modern. Great view of the city and great location 2 blocks from magnificent mile. Would definitely stay again
Excellent accommodations, service, meals. Valet staff and those who greeted us and opened the doors were enthusiastic and genuine. Service at check-in desk a little slow, but that was because all were on the phone. All were very polite and customer-friendly. Meals provided during business sessions were very good.
Wonderful stay at Sofitel Chicago. Emm graciously checked us in. The hotel is immaculate. The night manager, and I am sorry I didn’t write down her name, and the Housekeeping Supervisor were attentive and responsive to an issue we had. The view is breathtaking! The hotel has all new beds. My suggestion would be that they put the new featherbeds they show in their booklet under the bottom sheets. That would be like floating on a cloud. Wonderful place to stay. Excellent staff! We love Sofitel! Philadelphia, New York, and now Chicago.
I experienced very good service and room amenities. The valet and lobby staff were particularly attentive and responsive to all requests. I will definitely stay at the Sofitel Hotel in Chicago again and will try their hotels in other locations in the future.
Everything excellent except I was asked at check in for everyday room cleaning and confirmed but this did not happen. We stayed three days and no cleaning was donde. It’s not a problem but since they asked me at check in I expected it. Anyway… location is very good, restaurants in walking distance. Other nice attractions I would recommend Uber or Taxi.
Checked in late April for a 4 night stay. The room was on an upper floor, high enough to see over the tops of some of the surrounding buildings with a very limited glimpse of the lake. The furnishings and interior space was first class, no complaints. Unfortunately they had discontinued the mini bar system and turned off the little refrigerator; so there were no drinks or snacks available in the room, and you had to take the elevator down to the lobby if you got hungry or thirsty in the middle of the night. That became an issue, because that's exactly what happened the first night there. If you actually do go downstairs looking for something to eat or drink, you will not be rewarded with a big selection because the downstairs food store has basically the limited choice of drink and snacks you might find in your actual mini bar, nothing more. The restaurant had a nice variety of menu items, and I would say we ate well. Prices were reasonable. The downstairs bar was quite lively and stocked with a better than average selection of liquor. The location is excellent, with plenty of shopping and dining options, cafes, and even the lake, all within the surrounding area, and in walking the neighborhood you are somewhat removed from the tourist hordes and might actually feel like a Chicagoan! …
I will make this short: We had booked a room with 2 beds for my adult daughter and myself, directly through the hotel website. After check in, which was ok, but not extraordinarily friendly, we took the elevator to our room, which we found to be not clean ( filth, dust and crumbs on the bedstand, also brown spots, probably coffee, coke). We asked for another ( clean ) room. The second room was also not clean, dirt in the same spots as the previous one, an M&M on the floor. We asked to change the room again, this was beginning to get uncomfortable for us. The manager offered us free cocktails at the bar, which we did not want, we simply wanted a clean room. The 3rd room was acceptable, although there was a hairband on the floor which was not from us. We decided to stay in this room, we showed the hairband to the manager downstairs, just to show her how poor her cleaning staff is and apparently how nobody checks the rooms. She again offered us not to charge the night. I told her this is not my intention, I don´t want any gifts, I simply expect professionalism and I expect to be taken serious as a hotel guest. My daughter and I went out for dinner, returned to the hotel and to the room and our key card would not open the room door. Puzzled, we went back down to the reception, ( I don`t know how many times we went up and down), in a snippy tone the lady apologized and said it must have been a misunderstanding, she deactivated our room key because supposedly I said we were checking out. I found this to be outrageous, our belongings were in the room, how can she just lock me out and not give me access to our things. We never said we were checking out. After that we did check out, it was not a good feeling to be in downtown Chicago at 10.30pm, 2 women with no hotel room. The lady was very unfriendly, we felt totally unwelcome, almost kicked out. I blame the highly unprofessional staff and it seems there is no responsible person who has a clue about hospitality. NEVER AGAIN P.s. I stayed in this Sofitel many years ago and it was very pleasant…
Maybe we got a “lemon” of a room. Or maybe they are still recovering from pandemic. I love the Sofitel chain and we liked the room configuration (junior suite with huge windows), excellent mattress and bathroom, very friendly staff. But there was one thing after another wrong with the room, as if no one had stayed in it for 2 years (possible!). If I had been traveling on a high pressure business trip, I would have been really angry. Lock was broken, TV had to be replaced, closet light stayed on all night with no way to turn off, minibar missing, and room service food was poor quality.
