The hotel began a policy of not allowing any visitors into the hotel at all. Did not tell of policy at check in. Only found out when my guest was not allowed entrance. So we had to check out 2 hours after check in and move to a different hotel

Stayed here for three nights with my son while he looked at colleges. The location is great - right next to a CTA stop, so even on a freezing night in January, it was easy to get places. The neighborhood has lots of affordable places to eat and shop. It is a residential neighborhood as opposed to a touristy one. Our room faced a brick wall, but that meant no street noise. I liked that the room was a real suite with a door between the bedroom and living room. Too often places say they are a "suite," but it really just means there is a couch. I could get up earlier than my son and not bother him. And I love any hotel that provides robes. So great to have one to wear after taking a shower! The breakfast is basic - just coffee, juice, boxed cereal, toast - but enough to keep you going while you wait for your teen son to wake up (are you sensing a theme here?) Lots of places within a block or two to get a heartier breakfast, though. There are few amenities here. No business center, no place to use a computer or printer, no exercise room, no restaurant. But it is a very good basic hotel. Because the rooms are suites, there seemed to be a lot of rooms with a lot of people in them. When we arrived, there were several rooms on our hallway with their doors open and people running between them drinking wine and yelling to each other. I think the front desk said it was a bridal party. On the next two nights, there was a huge group of people in the lobby playing games and drinking beer. There is no way anyone else could have just hung out in the lobby. The staff did an excellent job at getting people to keep the sound down and get out of other guests' way, but still, a lot of big groups, so maybe not the best hotel if you want a sedate atmosphere. I imagine it is a lot quieter if you stay mid-week. I was supposed to stay at this hotel again in March, but had to cancel at the last minute because my event was cancelled the night before due to the growing threat of the COVID-19 pandemic. Although I had passed the cancellation deadline, the staff happily gave me a refund. As soon as this lockdown ends, I hope to get to Chicago and stay in this hotel again!

Wonderful little hotel in North Chicago. Its a bit dated and could use some upkeep BUT every inch of the room was super clean and the staff was very friendly. Close convenient parking too. At roughly a hundred a night its an amazing value for a downtown hotel in any city let alone Chicago.

I had an extremely pleasing stay. Nothing but excellent things to say especially about the staff. Jessica was my main contact at the front desk. She was kind, professional and very informative. Beds are comfortable. Housekeeping made sure my room was very clean. I recommend this hotel if you like to live like a local. Great location. Everything is walking distance.

City Suites is not a cookie cutter suburban or luxury Michigan Avenue hotel, it is a small boutique hotel located in an older building in the heart of the walkable Belmont Street community. Yes, the floors creak, yes the elevator is small, sometimes is out of order and most of the rooms will not have a street view. You should know that before you make your reservations from the Tripadvisor reviews. What City Suites is, again, is a boutique hotel near a wide variety of small restaurants, entertainment and less than a block to the “L”. The hotel is clean, the people were all very friendly, my room was comfortable and I would not hesitate to return. They had great speciality coffee all day, but the continental breakfast was definitely lacking. The parking while not on the property is easy to find and not that far from the hotel. Having to return the parking pass after checking out and retrieving my car was a bit inconvenient but not burdensome. I found City Suites to be perfect for my needs, a reasonable value and very convenient to a thriving Chicago community. If you have researched this hotel and are comfortable with what it is you will not be disappointed.
