2 rooms (Grand Premier King and Grand Premier Double) for 4nts. Requested they be nearby, and they were right opposite. Laura at front desk was wonderful, as were all staff we came across. Loved breakfast (with 1 vegan it isn’t always easy, but the choice was varied and delicious). Everyone knew our names and went out of their way to be helpful. Rooms were exactly as described - beautiful. Room service was quick and well presented. Housekeeping was outstanding. Nice swim in the pool - the concierge notified them we were on our way. Gave us a late check out so we had a room until our transport arrived. Our experience was faultless - as with all Peninsula hotels we have stayed in. Will definitely return. Highly recommend staying here for a superb stay!
Have you ever heard of some millionaire living full time in a hotel and wonder “Why would they do that? It can’t be THAT comfortable.” This may be what you think before visiting The Peninsula Chicago, but after your visit you will wish you could live there. It was my third time visiting this hotel and it remains at the top of my list based on the service, comfort and design. At the Peninsula Chicago, you will feel as if you are transported back in time where service and the little details really matter. We were warmly greeted at check-in by Laura who was beyond helpful during our stay by offering suggestions, securing last minute dinner reservations and making sure we had everything we needed. She even let the restaurant know we were celebrating a birthday which was acknowledged by the wait staff during our meal. Laura’s friendliness and professionalism, her attention to detail, made all the difference and is exactly what I have come to expect from the Peninsula. We booked a King room with an upgraded view. The view in this particular room was just ok - I’ve had better ones at this hotel in the past - but the rooms are what really set this hotel apart. Everything has a purpose and a place in the room; they are just so well designed, even the couch has built in coasters. The bathroom is comfortable with a TV built into the wall by the tub, a separate toilet and shower, a makeup mirror and two wall mirrors with counter space which is great for couples getting ready at the same time. The room is electronically controlled by iPads on both sides of the bed as well as remotes and wall panels - from there you can set the lights, temperature, look at dining menus and hotel amenities, and even let housekeeping know if you would like privacy or your room cleaned. In the drawers next to your bed you’ll find outlets and charging stations, and the desk has every amenity you would need for business purposes (even a drawer with a printer!) The closet is exceptional - plenty of built in drawers, nice hangars, space for luggage and shoes, and a large dressing mirror on the wall. The safe is tucked away in a drawer and includes jewelry storage which is so thoughtful. They also offer same day laundry service for a charge if you need something cleaned in a pinch. The minibar is well stocked with a cold fridge, coffeemaker and great snacks. We had room service multiple times - breakfast, late night, and through Shanghai Terrace. The service was great with just a few mishaps on the very busy Monday morning and these were quickly corrected. The late night menu is rather limited right now so if you have dietary restrictions make sure to keep that in mind before relying on that option. We also tried the rooftop bar - food portions were large and delicious, and the cocktails were excellent. It’s the little things though that set the Peninsula Chicago apart. The warm welcome and assistance offered throughout your visit, the plush slippers and Diptyque soaps, the ease of changing your room temp or adjusting the lighting without leaving the bed, the restful sleep you get with the heavy drapes pulled and a room set off from the hallway by a nice foyer. And if you forget something you will be delighted with what the housekeeping department offers - in our case it was a small shaving cream and an elegant disposable razor with a wooden handle. At the Peninsula you will be greeted by name in nearly every interaction and if there is a lapse in service, it will be appropriately addressed and corrected. During our last visit we had a slight service issue at Shanghai Terrace which we mentioned to the front desk and before we left this was fully addressed by the restaurant and we were beyond pleased with the experience. This is the Peninsula experience - the front desk will do what they can to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing without any pretension whatsoever. Upon checkout we were assisted by Isaac who was so friendly and helpful in assisting us with luggage storage. He also gave me some great traveling tips for a trip I am hoping to take to Tokyo in the future. Yes, you will pay a hefty price to stay at the Peninsula Chicago but this is one of those few places in the world where it is worth EVERY penny. You won’t regret it and you will wish you could live there.…
This is what I call a 5 star service, hotel and a food! We stayed for 3 nights and we were amazed! I stayed in all those other amazing top notch 5 stars hotels like Waldorf or Ritz but this is another level! Starting from the check in, we were checked in by this lovely woman ( unfortunately don't remember her name) but she had a Bob hair which is short and she provided a great service, I personally think that's how all the front desk people should work! She explained everything in details, very slowly, greeted us, told about the hotel's history and showed us around the hotel! And of course checked us in a very beautiful room! As for the room, it was beautiful, big and very spacious, modern and well thought! It was like staying in a smart room! Overall hotel is gorgeous! I really liked that the front desk is located on a 3rd floor or maybe higher don't remember, because it was March and very cold outside and it would have been a very inconvenient to get checked in right at the entrance of the hotel! Also Chinese restaurant and a bar at the hotel are must visit places! We wanted to stay at the Ritz or Waldorf but really happy that we ended up staying in this AMAZING 7 stars hotel! Highly Recommended!…
Great location, and awesome suite that was well laid out, and quiet despite being right off Michigan Ave. The staff and service was excellent. It’s highly recommended. The only downside was the on-site dining was just ok, but many other options around, and not considered in 5-star review for the hotel
Took my daughter here for spring break. We had a great time. Used the pool/ room service for dinner and breakfast. They treated my daughters American girl doll like a VIP. All the staff is great and very friendly. Great location to shopping and walking.
We spent our anniversary weekend here in mid March. It is truly one of a kind romantic hotel. You never feel like any detail is missed from always recognizing this special day for us to the moments in passing they help with anything. It is truly a 5 star experience from check in to check out. We did room service for breakfast each day which arrived around 30-45 minutes after ordering. They also give you the choice to have in room setup or not. They do a turn down service which is great. Overall just an amazing stay, the only thing is we didn’t love the new rooftop bar. I wanted the old fireplace bar they used to have on that lobby level. The rooftop bar has no character to it and felt sterile. That being said, there are so many amazing restaurants and bars nearby it didn’t put a damper on anything.…
This hotel does everything right and then some! The staff is so accommodating; they can't do enough for you. From Isaac at check in to Gabrielle in Z restaurant to Xeuping in housekeeping to Tina in the spa, everyone was top notch and so kind. I can't wait to come back!
What a delight to stay at this wonderful hotel! From the lovely Joy and Danny at check-in to a beautifully appointed guest room (with literally everything you could possibly need or want) to Hector out front who solved all of our transportation problems, this hotel and its staff deserves the highest praise. We loved every second of our brief stay and cannot wait to return. Thank you to the Peninsula for making travel fun (and safe) again❤️
I was hoping not to have to write this review and waited three weeks to hear back from Vince or Betsy at the management level, but sadly after calling and leaving several messages, I never heard back. Terrible customer service, to not even return several phone calls. We travel to Chicago every year around Christmas time and decided to stay at a supposedly 5 star hotel. The hotel is very pretty to look at, however their service is terrible. What we experienced in a time of Covid was disgusting to say the least. The hotel had a basketball team staying in the hotel for the night to play the bulls the next day. My husband purchased some food outside the hotel and walked upstairs right by the dining room where it was very full with patrons eating. He sat down right in the open upstairs and watched many basketball players and their staff show up to get tested for Covid. Instead of going into one of the Conference rooms they started right out on the open testing players and staff for Covid -19. My husband was shocked to say the least How can you test people right out in the open, right above where people are eating? How tone deaf can you be? ( they had to cancel the game that night, because they couldn’t get 8 members that didn’t test positive) We went to the front desk to let them know our concerns, what we heard back was utterly shocking. Adam at the front desk started to question my husband, asking him why was he upstairs? Who told him he could go there? We were confused? We didn’t know we weren’t allowed to use the hotel? , He was so disrespectful that our 14 year old daughter who was standing nearby asked why that man was speaking to her father that way. instead of apologizing for the whole thing, they acted as if my husband did something wrong. Yes, we decided to travel during Covid, however,we followed the guidelines. We all know the chances of being exposed to Covid, but The peninsula hotel put their guests in harms way by not using common Sense. We did encounter some very lovely staff members, but their total indifference and disrespect stands out!…
First off, don't plan on staying here if you're trying to penny pinch. It's a spectacular property and the prices reflect it. Sure, tea was $125/head, but it's the Peninsula.......not the Holiday Inn Express!!!! We stayed for four nights in mid November. All I can say was how impressed I was from check-in to check-out. Laura, at the front desk, was extraordinary and went way out and beyond to make sure we got tables at Shanghai Terrace during our nights there despite them being fully booked. Props to her........I nominate her for employee of the year!!!! The room was large, and with booking through Amex FHR, we were able to score an upgrade, which we appreciated. Everybody from the doormen to housekeeping were so friendly and willing to go beyond to make sure we were happy and comfortable despite still being understaffed. I cannot recommend the Peninsula Chicago enough for people who are willing to splurge and enjoy themselves.…
