I was here for a business meeting as a group and their conference and event staff were really great. The food and drinks were consistently flowing over the 2 days and the staff were highly attentive. The food itself was well prepared and was very tasty. Super high marks all around.

The hotel itself was a bit of a mixed bag. This isn’t a true W. I mean it is, but based on comparisons to their W’s, this like a lowercase W.

The rooms are spartan and the hotel is wedged between other tall buildings on every side. Meaning every room is dark without any natural light.

The water pressure in the shower is non existent. Take a sponge soak it in water and then squeeze it over your head and body. That’s the water pressure.

The hotel bar is a lively spot with live music and that was a great feature.

The kitchen makes a burger and fries that far exceeded my expectations, like really spectacular. But then the avocado toast was a huge miss.

With so many hotel options this wouldn’t be my first choice for a future visit, but if you wind up here, expect a few bright spots and a few dark spots.

Welcome back to W, RJPTexas. Thank you for sharing your pro-tips on W with the TripAdvisor community. As much as we would like to change what happens outside our walls, it's what's inside that we're most passionate about. Craft eats and drinks, the sounds of local acts, and a 'whatever you want, whenever you want' approach. If that isn't enough, stay tuned for news of a full re-design to our accommodations premiering soon. All the best, KYLE BRITTEN // Director of Welcome

Cool hotel. Close to everything downtown, One block away from them the Willis Tower on Walker Ave, if you’re a Marriott person, and it’s reasonably priced for the location it’s right across the street from the JW Marriott. Has a very cool inside bar restaurant, it’s definitely a renovation, don’t believe it wasn’t built originally to be a hotel but they converted it from apartment/condo building ( looks historic and Gothic from the outside and they have it lit up in red color). I think the were rooms are fine , clean kind laid out strange due to the conversion, it had an old basic bath tub, but more space than I expected for downtown hotel. Friendly staff. 24 seven 7-Eleven across the street. McDonald’s on the corner with a walk up window and there must’ve been two Starbucks on either side of the block. They had free coffee. Can’t beat the location for the price. Two thumbs up.

I had an exceptional experience at W City Center. The hotel's central location in the heart of Chicago made it ideal for sightseeing, especially for first-time visitors. The staff, from the front desk to the housekeeping team, were incredibly friendly and accommodating throughout my stay. Overall, it was a delightful experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Chicago.

Not worth it!!! I cannot believe this was a W hotel! You’re only, and I mean only paying for location. The bar and restaurant area was appealing to the eye, really small though. I didn’t visit though because I had a feeling it would be OVERPRICED. When I first arrived, I was tired and hungry and just wanted to lie down. I got to my room and it was SMALL! Smaller than a dorm, just ridiculous for over $300 a night! 😡 no space to walk around the literal bed! I was appalled. I go to order room service ($58 bucks for two ginger ales, greasy soggy fries and a sloppy, salty, greasy burger, which they gave truffle first when I never asked for that. Had the opportunity to correct with fresh crispy fries and still failed) but the guy who brought the food had NO room to walk past me to put the tray on the desk. It was so uncomfortable to the point he asked me did I inquire about getting an upgrade. I said no. Then he said yeah you should ask, I’ll mention it. Next thing I know the front desk calls and scolds me saying “You asked about an upgrade, well this is the room you booked” I said NO the server saw how ridiculous it was and asked. Then she goes “Oh well he doesn’t work for the booking he’s just a server” I got off the phone like well excuse me I don’t work here, get your people and this small dirty and dingy room together and there wouldn’t be a problem. 🙄 The bathroom door swung back and hit the main door, it literally was no room for it to open. Same with shower door. I couldn’t get in and out. A king size bed room, but definitely not big enough for two people. Then I started noticing all the little old dirty things! They need to renovate bad! The carpet, horrible dim lighting, worn/torn upholstery on the lamp, mold in bathroom, and stains on curtains. All I heard was water after every flush. No refrigerator or microwave in the room. No complimentary water/coffee. No closet. Just a big fat NO. Look elsewhere if you like nice things! I’ve been in better townhouse suites and holiday inns than this place!

I’m so annoyed with this hotel, I decided to write this review from the plane after leaving this morning. Don’t be duped to stay here if you are looking for any quality experience. Instead, choose the JW across the street for the same rates. Firstly, for $400+/night, you would expect more from a room of this cost. Secondly, this location is W only in name. Nothing about it says luxury travel. The rooms are extremely outdated, dirty and tiny. The AC blows wet, smelly air. There is also an odor throughout the hotel from the air fragrance spray they use which attacked the senses in a very unpleasant way.
While the check in/check out was pleasant enough, bar staff/service was hit or miss. The food seems to be microwaved or out of Sysco bag. What finally threw us over the edge was asking for an espresso but being told they couldn’t make us one… only an espresso martini… at 4 p.m. in an empty bar.
I’m an elite member with Marriott. I will make sure I tell all my business and personal relations to stay away from this hotel when visiting Chicago. While the hotel is located in a spectacular area, there are many, many more superior hotel choices available within blocks.

Our stay at the W Hotel was nothing short of alarming. On the day of our checkout, hotel employees attempted to enter our room THREE times while we were still inside. Once around 9am, again at 10am and again at 10:45a. Shockingly, the first two times, they didn't even bother to knock. Good thing I was in the room. My wife and child was also with me. When I confronted one of the employees about why he was trying to get into our room, he claimed that someone called down to report that our door was broken. This was completely false as we never made such a call, and our checkout time wasn't until noon.

I went down to report the incidents after the second time it happened, yet by 10:45 am, housekeeping knocked to clean the room, but then apologized, stating that the system had us checked out already. This contradicting information makes us highly suspicious of their intentions. Were they trying to rob us?

Adding to the suspicion, the hotel didn't follow their standard protocol of knocking, announcing themselves, or sliding a receipt under our door the morning of checkout. None of this happened, making the situation even more questionable.

It felt like the hotel was scrambling to cover themselves legally by sending up the last person at 10:45am. This experience left us feeling unsafe and distrustful. I strongly urge anyone considering a stay at the W Hotel to reconsider.

It took them 10 days to respond to our complaints and it was only because an investigative TV reporter called them for the story.

Something very shady is going on, and I wouldn't want anyone else to go through what we did. Stay away from the W Hotel!

The hotel staff was amiable and welcoming and the beds were comfortable but the hotel experience was lacking overall because the hotel has seen better days, it was quite run-down looking.

My low rating is mainly because we were there specifically for a NYE party, which was an incredible letdown. We paid extra for VIP tickets because the advertising said that with early admission, we'd be more likely to get a table but when we arrived there were no tables. I don't mean there were no tables available I mean there were literally no tables anywhere at the event. So that's a bait and switch if ever I saw one.

The DJ was good and the top-shelf bourbon was Angel's Envy so not bad however, unless you plan to drink non-stop for 4 hours the event is a waste of money. We would have had a far more enjoyable evening if we'd gone down to the bar where you could still hear the music clearly, and where we could have had a table and paid for our drinks individually and I would have saved money because there is no way I'd have consumed $175 worth of alcohol. I had 2 drinks all night.

Very disappointing NYE experience.

If you are looking for a big downtown hotel with luxurious appointments and tons of attentive service, stay somewhere else. If you are looking for a convenient city center location, a beautiful old building repurposed as a unique small hotel with an artsy urban vibe, this may be the place for you.

I really liked the more intimate feel, the classic architecture and very cool bar at the entrance to the hotel. I also enjoyed the comfortable beds, good quality breakfast and outstanding location for our needs on this trip. We were looking for a Marriott property that was an easy walk from both Union Station and the CTA Blue line. It is only a few blocks from both. I was able to use my Suite Night Awards to upgrade to a larger room than standard. It was very spacious but this used to be automatic without using Suite Night Awards.

Now the reasons for only three stars. This was probably the worst water pressure we’ve ever experienced in a supposedly world class hotel. I am home today and can’t wait to shower in my own bathroom the finally get all soap out of my hair. The pressure at the W was that bad! This was my first Marriott stay since reaching Titanium Elite. In lieu of the executive lounges which remain closed indefinitely (I have my doubts that Marriott will ever reopen them), they offer breakfast at whatever venue the hotel has to serve it for elite members Platinum and above. This hotel offered me a very ungenerous $10 pp toward their expensive breakfasts average about $30 pp. We could have eaten in the city for less without their $10. This annoyed me but the thing that really pissed me off was they didn’t explain to me that I had to ask the server for our $10 pp credit at breakfast or else they wouldn’t know and will charge full price. What?!! They really can’t come up with a way to automatically credit it like almost every European Marriott owned property?! Go back to the stupid paper vouchers if you have to. Whatever it takes!

Marriott management, you really need to pay attention to these comments. I am a very seasoned traveler and understand better than most what a difficult year this has been for the hotel industry. But I also have the experience of other brands (the one you’d care about is Hilton) and know they are handling these pandemic times MUCH better than you. Do better or you will find that when it is all over, many of your most loyal customers like me will have defected to another brand.

Very dated. Not clean. And strange attitude of personnel in the restaurant. Huge nice overpriced bar area. Gym ok for what I needed. Also very aged. Room cleaning person entered room even before my check out and then blamed me that I scared her still being in there. Wow. There are no places you could attempt to get some emails done.
There are clearly better and fresher hotels close by.

The hotel is located in the heart of Chicago in a former beautifully restored bank building with vaulted ceilings. Arrival and check in were swift. The room was good size with a huge bathroom and comfortable beds. The bar makes wonderful cocktails (although quite expensive), and the breakfast one of the best for any hotel in Chicago (try the smoked salmon avocado toast). The big problem at the hotel was the water. First, no water pressure at all and impossible to wash shampoo from your hair. Also, on the second day, no hot water in the shower and a repairman had to come to the room to correct making me late for the airport. Also, the hotel had two different credit card systems for payments which was very confusing. If the hotel can work out the water issues, they can become 5 stars. I do recommend and would give them another chance.

Hello. Does anyone have any idea what the incidental hold per night would be for a 1 week stay?
Answer from World traveler
San Francisco, California, United States32 contributions13 helpful votes
Expect a minimum of $100 per night, they charge it day by day. So when you check in, they’ll typically charge the entire hotel stay plus 2 days of incidentals then one day per night there after. If by the 3rd day of your stay you’ve not used any incidentals, talk to the MOD and insist that they stop charging you.
