Yes, the location of The Gwen is in a great area, filled with many shops, foodie havens, and within walking distance of many of the museums. We had read a lot of the reviews about the hotel prior to making our reservation. Many of them were unflattering, however I have traveled quite a bit, to many different cities, and this...

This was our first visit to this hotel after the renovation and new owner. This hotel is a great location as it is connected to Nordstrom's via a couple routes. It is marketed and with its renovations is considered a luxury hotel at a luxury price. The decor and atmosphere is definitely top notch and beautiful. However, we had a...

I loved the atmosphere, most of the staff were really friendly, I had one complaint about a staff member referring to my weight and how close my room was for the gym. That didn't ruin my experience but I made sure management was aware. However the hotel itself is very comfortable and very clean. It also has a nice spacious...

Overall the experience was negative but there are some good things as well. First: the lobby is beautiful and is a good first impression. The room was clean, neat and tasteful. The best thing about the hotel may be the location, right on the magnificent mile and close to transit. Parking is a little pricy but there are multiple cheaper...

What a BEAUTIFUL hotel! From start to finish, our stay was AMAZING! The staff greeted us with sparkling wine (to which I added some of their yummy apple cider) and smiles. Alexandra at the front desk was FANTASTIC! She upgraded us to a suite, which we REALLY appreciated because this was a special night downtown for us! The room itself...

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday with a stay at The Gwen. It is a beautiful hotel. The staff was friendly and gracious. Especially Alec at check in. We are SPG members and were given a nice king room #1205 nice view of Michigan Ave but high enough so noise wasn't really an issue. Lovely Molton Brown toiletries...

I've stayed here a few times now and I absolutely love the room layouts. Very friendly and accommodating staff! They strive for nothing shorter than the best for their customers. Plus, it has always been a steal in price when I book. Great food, a beautiful lobby with an awesome deck view. 👌 I definitely recommend this hotel if you...

I'm not in the habit of staying at luxury hotels, but I went to Chicago last summer for a business trip, and since my company partners with this hotel, it's the one they recommended I stay in. The hotel had been renovated not too long before I got there, and it was absolutely gorgeous inside. The lobby area is full...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ideally situated in the heart of the Windy City, The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Chicago is rooted in the history and heritage of the city's Magnificent Mile, paying homage to the 1930s in both its architecture and ethos. The newest member of Starwood Hotels and Resorts' prestigious group of Luxury Collection Hotels is an artistic icon that exudes timeless style and elegance. Housed within the landmark McGraw-Hill Building, The Gwen features an Art Deco aesthetic amplified by a sculptural façade, famously created by artist Gwen Lux in 1928. The idea of a female artisan making her mark in a predominantly male design city depicts an exciting atmosphere of change. The building has been home to many stories in its illustrious past, and today The Gwen provides the ideal canvas for guests to create their own distinct memories. This 300-room hotel includes 199 King accommodations with separate soaking tubs and showers, 54 Double/Double accommodations, as well as 34 luxurious suites, including some featuring beautiful terraces overlooking Michigan Avenue. The inventory, which averages 380 square feet per guest room, includes rooms that are ADA-accessible. Guests of The Gwen can enjoy the use of plush bathrobes and slippers to make their stay more comfortable, as well as complimentary in-room basic Internet access (wired and wireless), a 42-inch flat screen television with HD stations, a surround sound system, a Keurig brewing system, and an in-room safe. Offering the best of Chicago from right outside its doors, The Gwen is located on the Magnificent Mile, minutes away from premier shopping, world-class dining, and exciting cultural and entertainment hotspots, such as Navy Pier and Millennium Park. Connected to The Shops at North Bridge, The Gwen provides guests with enclosed access to upscale retailers, such as Nordstrom Michigan Avenue, and Stuart Weitzman. ... more   less
