Come see Mark Darress and Matt Hubbell at The Gwen. Great drinks, great tips on mixology. The atmosphere is great as well. Very warm environment and I recommend that you come here for pre- and post-dinner cocktails.

This hotel was previously the Conrad Hotel which has now moved elsewhere and the Gwen is part of the Starwood Group. We have stayed for several years in a row at the former Conrad and the last 2 years at The Gwen on business. The lobby has been renovated since our last stay and is beautiful, but the rooms and...

The hotel is in a great location. Unfortunately on my last couple of visits I have been allocated a room for disabled access and everything is far too low for someone of my height, I can't even stand under the shower because it's so low. When i have asked to change rooms they were very unaccommodating.

Big disconnect between the lobby and rooms. I was so excited when I got to the hotel thinking my room would be as nicely decorated as the lobby. I was wrong. The room was old and tired, the leather chair was peeling, the wall paper was stained and the furniture was stained and chipped. Not ok for the price. I'm...

Lobby/restaurant has a very unique vibe to it----the decor is beautiful and is definitely worth a stay for that reason alone. I have always stayed at The Drake, but ended up staying at The Gwen to appease some clients who recommended it. Loved it. Stopped down for a bite in the lobby, and ended up staying for a while because...

Mark was the best bartender I've ever had. Nobody has made me feel more welcome at the bar. He should be given a raise. I don't often drink but if Mark was my normal barkeep I could definitely see myself becoming an alcoholic.

Mark was a great bartender, super friendly and personable! He made us feel welcome and made delicious drinks. I even got to try an old fashioned made with tequila, since I'd already had a margarita so I didn't want to mix my liquors.

I stayed this place for 3days and 4nights with mom. We enjoyed the hotel room as it has clean bathroom and bed. The room is really clean (we got a corner room floor 6). The lobby has a luxurious and charming feelings too. The staff was nice as I asked for a coffee after breaking down.

We stayed at the Gwen in our most recent family trip. The hotel is very well located and close to everyhting. The check in was quick and we were in our room in a snap. The only thing we didn't like is the beds. They were supposed to be queen size and the size was FULL. So it was difficult...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Ideally situated in the heart of the Windy City, The Gwen, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Chicago is rooted in the history and heritage of the city's Magnificent Mile, paying homage to the 1930s in both its architecture and ethos. The newest member of Starwood Hotels and Resorts' prestigious group of Luxury Collection Hotels is an artistic icon that exudes timeless style and elegance. Housed within the landmark McGraw-Hill Building, The Gwen features an Art Deco aesthetic amplified by a sculptural façade, famously created by artist Gwen Lux in 1928. The idea of a female artisan making her mark in a predominantly male design city depicts an exciting atmosphere of change. The building has been home to many stories in its illustrious past, and today The Gwen provides the ideal canvas for guests to create their own distinct memories. This 300-room hotel includes 199 King accommodations with separate soaking tubs and showers, 54 Double/Double accommodations, as well as 34 luxurious suites, including some featuring beautiful terraces overlooking Michigan Avenue. The inventory, which averages 380 square feet per guest room, includes rooms that are ADA-accessible. Guests of The Gwen can enjoy the use of plush bathrobes and slippers to make their stay more comfortable, as well as complimentary in-room basic Internet access (wired and wireless), a 42-inch flat screen television with HD stations, a surround sound system, a Keurig brewing system, and an in-room safe. Offering the best of Chicago from right outside its doors, The Gwen is located on the Magnificent Mile, minutes away from premier shopping, world-class dining, and exciting cultural and entertainment hotspots, such as Navy Pier and Millennium Park. Connected to The Shops at North Bridge, The Gwen provides guests with enclosed access to upscale retailers, such as Nordstrom Michigan Avenue, and Stuart Weitzman. ... more   less
