About
Description
FieldHouse Jones is set to become the undisputed lodging phenomenon of Chicago. With flexible room types, innovative bed arrangements, first-of-their-kind vacation lofts, bespoke communal ...More spaces, regional food+drinks, inspired events, and box-fresh art, FieldHouse Jones is the straightaway neighborhood center of gravity and your springboard for the most unique Windy City experience. In Chicago, a town that loves to build and rebuild, history doesn’t always come in the most obvious packaging, and such is the case with FieldHouse Jones. Housed within the 11-story long, historic Borden Dairy Depot, and overlooking a lush private park, in a once secret but now bustling warehouse district, FieldHouse Jones sits smack dab in the middle of Chicago’s premier Gold Coast, River North and Old Town neighborhoods. FieldHouse Jones has invented a brand-new category of hospitality that defies any current lodging classification, but triumphantly draws inspiration from its iconic 150-year old Chicago roots: the Park District Fieldhouse. A year-round neighborhood center that thrived as the hub for nearly every aspect of community-life. It all started in the 1850’s when a group of trailblazing Chicagoans rallied to create the country’s first, and still biggest and best, park and boulevard system. They began by developing large and serene “pleasure-grounds,” intended to be enjoyed by the whole city as an escape from the chaos of city life, and continued by pioneering smaller neighborhood parks that offered “recreational opportunities” as well as social and educational programs. But, recognizing that Chicago’s seasons could be long, harsh and isolating and that denizens were pining for year-round activities and social connections, the park commissioners made their boldest move yet and forever re-shaped urban culture by creating the first Park District Fieldhouses. A move that President Theodore Roosevelt would soon hail as “the most notable civic achievement in any American City.” There were no templates to follow in designing fieldhouses, so they were built to be everything to everyone, a physical and social home-away from home. With incredible amenities such as assembly halls, club rooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, libraries, locker rooms, and swimming pools, park personnel were able to program an endless flow of activities. From folk singing, to wrestling, to square dancing, to basket weaving, to archery, to gymnastics, to ethnic art, to chess clubs, to weight-lifting, to holiday dinners, scheduled plays and movies. In no time, fieldhouses became the true heart of every neighborhood. Now, fast forward more than a century, and FieldHouse Jones has updated the style, spirit and function of the classic park district fieldhouses, with comfortable, practical and ingeniously designed neighborhood accommodations, to create a new balance and the newest kind of inclusive social hub. The premise is to shift away from the idea of self-centric travel and toward a team-like, fieldhouse environment, where guests and locals can meet up, collaborate, relax and socialize. And by specializing in unique sleeping quarters, FieldHouse Jones has smaller spaces for everyone from individuals looking for adventure, to studio, one and two bedroom apartments for the built-in-crew. Unlike staying in a potentially lonesome and isolated vacation-rental or conventional hotel, guests can avail themselves to the lobby level gymnasium lounge and top spin coffee bar, the subterranean faux-swimming lanes, the Janitor’s Closet speakeasy, and the bespoke public & private event area featuring custom slot car racing, and gourmet demonstration kitchen. We invite you to explore our fieldhouse-themed public spaces and custom, local artworks ranging from playful painted-over graffiti scoreboards, to a 400-count wood tennis racket installation designed to echo the silhouette of gymnasium climbing nets to a wall assemblage of vintage sporting items, that were gathered over a lifetime. Like its iconic inspiration, FieldHouse Jones is an utterly unfussy, yet consciously considered, multifaceted, community hub, destined to become the true heart of the neighborhood. Less

There is a private refrigerator in the suite. Glassware too. If you needed a kitchen set up, there is one in the basement that can be used. A BIG refrigerator is down there with a full kitchen and large tables to eat at.
